  1. Is it me, or is this talk of trading Hardy a lingering bit of Milwaukee's non-competitive attitude bred by 26 years of failure? Hardy is one of the big reasons for the Brewer's climb from mediocre to playoff bound. Trading him only to start a rookie question mark at SS makes no sense for a team looking for that extra win or two to take them to the WS. Trading Hardy signals another long round of rebuilding, and it may be another 26 years before the Brewers go all October on us again! Yes, Hardy is worth more in trade right now than at any point since he has been a major leaguer. He is probably worth more in trade right now than anybody else on the team. Does that mean the Brewers should trade him? That's certainly what they would have done for -say- Sexson. But the Brewers were brutally bad when they traded Sexson. They are now a decent team - thanks in large part to Hardy. Trading Hardy now makes no sense to me. My guess is that if the Brewers were to pay Hardy instead of shove him out the door, he would be more than happy to play third base because it is easier. But the key is to pay Hardy. The Brewers need to resign Melvin, find a manager, and pay Hardy this offseason! The only way I'd trade Hardy is if he brought back a ridiculously high price - a number one type pitcher plus lots of great prospects. Then, I might do it, but I'd still be thinking it was a mistake.
  2. Worst article of the year. Grade? D-minus. (He was working on an F but got the D-minus because he spelled everybody's names right.)
  3. Rays vs. Dodgers series is ideal - with the Dodgers taking it in seven on a Manny Ramirez homer... Sigh. Might as well ask for what you want, eh? Forget the Phillies. They pretty much thumped us this year. I hope they go down in flames in LA LA land.
  4. I just liked seeing iluvlamp happy for a change! Great job, Brewers. I think this season was totally memorable and exciting!
  5. Dude. Bright spot of the season: JJ Hardy. That guy has really earned it this year. He proved last year was no fluke and, despite being really streaky in his own right, he turned out to be the most consistent Brewer all year. I admit I've been down on him from time to time, but JJ Hardy... That guy. He did it.
  6. For 14 hours, the Brewers and everyone in Milwaukee could relish in accomplishing something that an entire generation had lived without seeing. They won a playoff game. They were still alive. They were worth toasting. And, hey, if you happened to be double-fisting, the Cubs lost, and perhaps that was worth a clink, too. -Jeff Passan
  7. Just thought I'd bring back this thread for some perspective. Did anybody predict Bush would be Milwaukee's first post-season winning pitcher since 1982!? Overbay for Bush was a good trade, no?
  8. You are correct, sir. The Cubs choked major big time. http://pagesperso-orange.fr/kwik-e-simpsons/wallpapers/nelson-1024x768.gif
  9. Just wanted to add some Hardy love in with the Hart hate.
  10. I like this quote from Jeff Passan: Ha!
  11. Yeah. I feel bad for Ned. Knowing what I know about him, I don't think he would've done some of the things that got the team some crucial wins - namely the way Sveum handled the pitching. Ned wouldn't have put McClung in there. I don't think that Ned should have been fired. But I also can see that Sveum has a certain style... (I doubt Dale would play smallball for a whole season, and he does seem more adaptable than Ned already...) May Ned manage elsewhere with all the dodgy stoic integrity he had here. GO BREWERS!!!!!!!
  12. This is fun, right? If I'd said at the beginning of the season that we'd be in this spot right now, you'd all have jumped at the prospect! (I'm NOT kidding.) THIS IS FUN! Even if the season is done tomorrow, this is fun! Hey everyone! Forget the fear! Have fun! Get some sleep. Have a drink. Don't take the season too seriously. You could wind up dead tomorrow. Most of all, this is fun, and you should be having fun. Yay Brewers for giving me an exciting season! Way to go! Woohoo! I'm having FUN!!!
  13. He had eyes aflame, a head full of hair from the fires of hell, and an arm made of pure lightning... http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/5725/seth0926tw1.jpg Actually, it looks like his arm is a tree trunk!
  14. Ding ding! You are correct, sir! Soup pitched on gas fumes for five innings, and McClung just brought gas. Sveum was smart AND lucky sticking with McClung. Shoot. McClung scored! But I do think Sveum seems to have a better sense of the pitching...
  15. You said it. Wow. Why didn't Gary Sheffield do anything like this?
  16. It must be the addition of Gabe Gross...
  17. I've been saying this all along. Trading Hardy makes no sense. He is like Ryan Braun - a good player, a good competitor, a good presence, a good guy. Basically a major-league stud. Proven. Why trade somebody like that? Sign Hardy 4-5 years. Trade Escobar and Prince for elite stuff.
  18. Hey. At least now I know I'm drinking Kool-Aid by rooting for this team. Before I wasn't so sure. Now, I'm positive. A positive something is better than a negative nothing, right?

  20. Here's my take on this (at last): I'm not saying I love Ned Yost or anything. Not saying he was a fantastic manager. But he shouldn't have been fired. He should have been given to the end of the year. There were only twelve games left. He might have pulled it out. He might not have - but it is baseball. It is a strange and streaky game. I hope the Brewers claw their way back and everything, but I feel that what happened to Ned was uncool. That said, the Brewers are the biggest bunch of sucks that ever sucked. I blame the team.

  22. At least this year's collapse seemed to happen really fast - like over just two weeks. Last year's collapse took two agonizing MONTHS. This is an improvement.
