    Has Campbell ever heard of a screen pass? They are bringing the house on Goff almost every single play and not once has he tried to slip Gibbs out on a screen.

    This is underselling Finley in a big way and overselling 2010 Jordy. Finley to begin 2010 was seen as one of the big up and coming TEs in the league. He broke out finishing up 2009 and then in 2010 he picked up right where he left off. He was definitely a focal point of the Packer offense. He had two 100 yard games in the first 3 games of the season and when he was lost for the season after 4 games, it was seen as a massive loss. Up to that point, he had 21 catches on the season — Jordy had 6. I know Jordy had an awesome career as a Packer, but at that time he wasn’t a focal point of the offense — he didn’t start to come on until late 2010 (in part because Finley was no longer available) and he was distantly behind Jennings — and still behind Driver — on the depth chart. It’s unfortunate that Finley’s career was cut short by injury because I think people forget how great he was starting to become, how good the chemistry between him and Rodgers was and just how high his ceiling was.

    Oh don’t get me wrong, I definitely think it impacts you. I just think we as fans tend to oversell how much it impacts us while simultaneously underselling how much it has impacted rivals.

    Today at work, the most random thought popped into my head: “how in the world, in a situation where all we needed to do was funnel all the action to the interior of the field of play and protect the end zone and sidelines, did we end up in Cover 1 with Kevin King alone on an island?”

    Truth in some of this, but other parts of it is revisionist history. It wasn’t just getting nicked up and then getting healthy late. We lost a massive number of players to IR, I believe it was 15, and at that time in the NFL, IR meant you were done for the season. And some of those were massive losses, they weren’t just role players. Jermichael Finley was right on par with losing Kraft. Ryan Grant was a massive loss, he had almost 1500 yards for us in 2009. Tauscher- huge loss. Nick Barnett - huge loss. These are the biggest examples, but not the only ones.

    Hypothetically, if we can still win the division in Week 18 with a Bears loss, do you guys think the Lions will play to win? My pessimistic side says the Lions will be checked out, and as the most hated team in the division by the other 3 teams, no one is looking to help us. My optimistic side says that Campbell is way too competitive and the Lions have way too much pride to simply roll over for his old OC and go out quietly.

    Tom is definitely the most important of the “we will get him back” guys. It sounds like he was relatively close on Saturday though so I don’t think it will be long. But I also wouldn’t opposed to him sitting the rest of the regular season if we can afford it. If the Packers win on Saturday, they will clinch a playoff spot. If the Bears lose to the 49ers, things will get very interesting. They can either go all hands on deck to try to win the division in Week 18, hoping for help from Detroit, who will be eliminated and have nothing to play for in this scenario. Or they can treat it like a preseason game and rest up for the WC round. My guess is they would sort of try to do both, play to win but rest anyone on the questionable side.

    My point is not solely about the 49ers. We were bemoaning our injuries on Saturday and I don’t know if anyone even pointed out that the Bears were without their two top receivers. Everyone has injuries this time of year. The year we won the Super Bowl I think was about the most snakebitten Packer team I’ve ever seen for injuries. If your “next man up” is not good enough, your roster is not good enough.

    Well, the 49ers still got the record they have this year in spite of all those things along the way. There were no excuses and they still got to 10-4. So who is going to hear our excuses? And we still have a chance to get healthy as well. The injuries you listed aren’t long-term, besides Parsons and Wyatt and obviously Kraft, which was some time ago. If they win on Saturday, they can and probably should treat Week 18 as a preseason game which would give their starters 2 weeks of rest before the playoffs.

    I never understood the whole concept of the idea that I should be eternally grateful to whatever the Green Bay Packers give me now no matter how devastating the losses might be because they aren’t as bad as they were in like 1985 when I was 3 and had no emotional investment whether they went 0-16 or won the Super Bowl.

    No, it will sting insanely bad either way. Losing yesterday won’t take any sting out of having our season ending in Soldier Field next month. We are approaching a Milwaukee Brewer situation of hoping for one single playoff win against a Chicago team and then anything else that happens is gravy. This must be what it feels like to be a Bears fan.

    I mean he ran a good 3-4 of his stupid little WR end arounds tonight. You could argue he didn’t manage the clock well on the Bears last Q4 drive. Definitely not a “MLF’s fault” game, but he wasn’t blameless.

    When they got the onside kick they were still down 7 and everyone here knew the game was over. There was 2 minutes left and they hadn’t gotten in the endzone the first 58 minutes and everyone still knew the game was over. The only surprise about it was that they elected to kick the XP and then we lost in OT. Probably because Ben Johnson knew we’d choke it away in OT anyway and there was no need to chance the random variance of one single 2 point play.

    The whole “who we gonna get if we fire him and how do we know he’ll be better” is an age old argument. I don’t know. We’ll conduct interviews and find someone. No one was saying “Matt Lafleur” when we asked this question 8 years ago. The fear of the unknown is why we held onto Dom Capers about 3-4 years too long.

    He’s the Phillip Rivers of head coaches. Solid floor, will give you a nice regular season record, not your guy if you want to finish your season in confetti.
