  1. Think they'd opt for Sogard if it's vs. RHP. Better matchup, better on base chance.
  2. Villar of all people goes up and has the professional AB while Pina and Arcia step in hacking and try to play hero.
  3. Don't think Albers is the 8th inning guy despite what BA/Rock said. Think it'll just depend on the night and situation. I don't even think there should be such a thing as an 8th inning guy.
  4. Kind of a weird time to pull Lyons with Thames coming up. Lyons is murder against lefties, Yelich and Shaw aside. EDIT: Not really sure what I missed there, but I obviously did!
  5. Like I said before, this ump is a total sucker for a good frame job.
  6. If they're going to make a move they better do it now.
  7. Enormous jump on Albers. He was halfway to 2nd when Pina caught the ball. Still almost got him. Throw was high. Good slide by Molina too. Also Villar just flat out missed the tag. Throw wasn't perfect but it was good enough to get him.
  8. I'm sure some are going to tire of the constant calls for electronic balls and strikes, but I'll probably continue to do so until it inevitably happens. This one is a complete sucker for Molina's outside corner frame jobs to righties.
  9. This team is still going to strike out a ton. It's just going to go from "a historical amount" to "a lot."
  10. Keep in mind, this is our best pitcher. We are going to need to score a ton of runs this year. Of course it's the Cardinals.
  11. No, it was a terrible call, and he's still out on a bad throw. It would have taken a horrific throw 20 feet down the line not to get him. It's not 30%, maybe 10. Arcia being on deck doesn't help your case much, if it was the pitcher on deck maybe I'd see it a little more. Even then at least you could clear his spot rather than just conceding an out at home.
  12. Why again is Eddie back? That was awful. I get that there's 2 out, but Pina had no chance. Even a bad throw off the line, he's probably going to have time to make it back and get him.
  13. I hope Braun can get it going, but yeah, I'd like to see Santana get the edge in PAs. Braun obviously has a huge hit this year, but overall, he's been pretty bad through the first 5. Some of his ABs have just been really ugly.
  14. Well, that sucked. The good thing is it's only 2 runs. Hopefully we came to score tonight and Chase settles down.
  15. The freaking Cardinals. Always the freaking Cardinals. Going to take a lot of that early season excitement away from the first series if we lay an egg in this one.
  16. How can you compare a guy that never once batted over .270 to a a career .302 hitter? Braun was better at his best, but Cameron was much more consistently good over his career. Cameron has a career 50.7 WAR, Braun is at 40.1. WAR isn't the end all be all but it's a heck of a lot better than batting average. This isnt even necessarily me saying I think Cameron has the better MVP case but I am saying they're a whole lot more comparable case wise than you seem to think.
  17. Braun would probably have to rebound to MVP caliber play for the next 3 seasons to even be remotely considered. As is he's about in the same conversation as Mike Cameron who isn't really docked by a PED history, though he did get 25 games for a banned stimulant that no one really remembers.
  18. So far we've been totally healthy and Braun has played 4 out of 5, Thames and Santana 3 out of 5. The next 5 games might be the other way and so they might all be around 7 out of 10. Figure in the DH and occasional days off for Yelich and Cain and you're probably looking at 3/4 playing time for the trio, about 120 starts, which equals about 532 plate appearances in a season. Last season Braun had 425, Thames had 551, and Santana had 607, for an average of 528. I've gone back and forth on this, but I fail to see how the math doesn't work out fine. I know it's frustrating seeing a good bat out of the lineup but it's way too early to judge the playing time after 5 games. In the end, I think the only real difference that we'll see is that when they have injuries, and they will, they'll be replacing them with guys we want to play anyway, and not throwing in guys like Nick Franklin and doing crazy things like starting Jonathan Villar in CF.
  19. Great idea, sit Braun every day, hell, let's just cut him and be done with it. This is kind of an overreactive response, isn't it? I don't think he was suggesting Braun be cut or never play. The reality is that based on our roster structure, both Santana and Braun are going to sit a lot more than we would like to see against RHP. I don't think Santana being his preferred choice right now is a super unreasonable thing.
  20. Cain is basically an every day guy. He's not really in the rotation of rest guys. Of course he'll get rest days occasionally but for the most part he's a guy who when available will always play.
