  1. My God this homeplate ump flat out sucks. Almost cost us 2 runs.
  2. We are on 20 consecutive innings without a run. Getting really sick of the offensive futility. We expected the rotation to suck, but the offense should be better than this.
  3. Tell that to Thames. Just seems like a bad zone so far.
  4. Pitch to Kris Bryant right down the middle -- called a ball. Pitch to Eric Thames a couple inches above the strike zone -- called a strike. MLB umpires are so bad.
  5. Woodruff dating back to late last year has really been disappointing.
  6. Well, this whole thing was s total failure of an idea for someone. It's bad enough to have your home stadium infested by opposing fans, but it's even more embarrassing when you made a very public effort to drive them out. The only way to take back Miller Park is to put a better product on the field than the Cubs. Period.
  7. I'm surprised Burnes didn't go on either end of the doubleheader yesterday. Sky Sox are off today and he's not even scheduled to start tomorrow. Any particular reason why?
  8. Hoover needs a spot on the 40, Williams already has one. Unless they plan to place Knebel on the 60 day immediately they would need to free up a spot for Hoover on the 40 by other means.
  9. Perez was responsible for half those errors yesterday. Villar I actually think has looked pretty decent at 2nd so far. He's never going to be a gold glover but it's certainly been a step up from the way he started last year. I agree that Phillips isn't an upgrade anymore. They didn't address the position in the off-season, so for better or worse its up to Villar to re-establish himself. If he does, great. If he doesn't, they'll likely move on from him and pursue a veteran stopgap for 2019.
  10. Interesting. I don't think it will happen, but I can see the merit. You're not going to get a workhorse out of Hader but it wouldn't take much to stretch him to 5-6 innings which if he was effective would be a lot better than what we are getting. Suter is much more suited for a pen role and with him, Jennings, Drake, and Logan soon, you're well set up already for lefties. Ultimately I doubt this is their mindset right now though as removing your 1B reliever after your 1A reliever goes down injured would be really risky. My guess is that this is a committee situation for a bit until someone locks down the job. Any of Barnes, Jeffress, Albers, or even Hoover could end up being that guy. Hader too, but I think they would prefer to keep his role flexible. It would not surprise me if he gets some 6 out save chances where he's asked to work both the 8th and 9th based on the situation and his workload. Williams should be called up and he's well suited for the job, but I think it'll be awhile before CC will even think about trusting him in that role.
  11. 7 games in and we've already been shut out in consecutive games. Just totally unacceptable given the guys Coles has available to him.
  12. Sogard and Perez still a combined goose egg for hits on the year.
  13. Won't give you false hope. It was definitely not a precaution and looked very major. Could not put any weight on the leg.
  14. Agreed! I just picked up Hader in my fantasy baseball league. Really don't think Hader will be closing. I think Barnes is your best bet with Jeffress having an outside shot. Williams could eventually get the role but not this early. Or maybe it'll be a straight committee. I really don't know. But I'd be pretty surprised if they just straight make Hader the closer.
  15. Torn ACL? Whatever it is, you won't be seeing him for awhile.
  16. We are really fortunate to be 4-3. We've played considerably worse than that overall.
  17. I was disappointed that they didn't dump Darnell Coles after last season. I won't pretend to know the nuances of his job, but any schlub should be able to get 4.5 runs out of this offense. I don't see what he brings to the table at all.
  18. Santana seems better defensively this year to me for the most part, based off nothing but the eye test there. But he saved a double there with his arm and I've seen him make a nice play or two.
  19. I'm going to say it --when we need the roster spot, don't put Aguilar on waivers. Put Perez on them. If he gets claimed, so be it, we save 2 million bucks. If not, send his butt to AAA. I'm not worried at all about losing him. If we really need another infielder it's not like Perez to Dubon is going to be a big difference. My preference would be to do that with Sogard but he can refuse to go to AAA and no one is going to take him off our hands for $2.4M.
  20. For all the hype, the offense looks for the most part the same as last year. Only fitting that Broxton went 4 for 4 with a bomb in the AAA opener, haha.
  21. The offense has had a couple bad games, the starting pitching has had one good game. They were shut out yesterday and are on their way to doing the same today. If they do, they'll be averaging 3.7 runs per game. Pitching or no pitching, that's not good enough.
