  1. Already invested 13 innings into the game. You need to keep the game tied. Facing a righty, then two lefties. You have 3 relievers left: Reliever A is a RHP with a 2.50 ERA. One of your best relievers so far this year. Reliever B is a RHP with a 4.26 ERA. Hot and cold. Reliever C is a LHP with a 13.50 in a couple apperances, fresh out of AAA having been brought in for Chulk just to have another available arm. Naturally, our manager goes with Reliever C. I think what makes it worse is that Loe was probably "unavailable" because Ron burned him out in a 16-4 game the night before having him throw 37 pitches. Rather than have Perez and Dillard chew up innings a blowout, he burns one of his best relievers in the 9th of a blowout. EDIT: Forgot that Dillard was tossed from the game, but still, no reason for Perez to only go 2/3rds of an inning in a complete blowout, and no reason for Loe to throw 37 pitches.
  2. Well, since this has been a late game already, I'll sum up what Roenicke's press conference will be: - Wolfie pitched great. - Liked the matchups with Perez. - Didn't want to use "Kam" as he had pitched the two previous days. - Feels like they are ready to bust out, just need to focus on getting back to .500 and then go on a run.
  3. Finally get a runner in scoring position, and we have pretty much the worst hitter against LHP on the team up. Maybe he'll walk.
  4. Pulling Braun in a tie game in extras? Really? EDIT: Unless it's health-related....
  5. "Technical difficulties" is what they've been saying. It's been commercial-free all night.
  6. Can he do better than a .471 OPS? That is the standard set by our current starting SS.
  7. Hard to get too high about yesterday anyway. Beat the worst team in baseball at home with our ace on the mound. If that's cause for celebration than we sure have lowered our standards.
  8. It annoys me beyond belief when MLB hitters suddenly slouch into a relaxed stance, giving away that they're taking the pitch before the ball is even thrown. Really, you can't at least maintain some sort of aggressive stance at the plate so that the pitcher doesn't know that he can just throw a free strike?
  9. Above average? Is this supposed to be in blue? Are we talking about the same Izturis? The one who has been overall below replacement level the last three seasons, the one who has had a WAR above 1.2 one time in his 12 year career? That Izturis is an above average player? EDIT: If you were talking about Weeks and I missed it, my bad.
  10. The most hilarious part about Izturis is hearing Roenicke constantly talk about how much he can't afford to lose him and how badly he needs to protect Izturis and get him a day off here or there like he's some sort of prized asset that they can't afford to lose.
  11. Could have easily gotten back into this, but instead got the well-deserved consequence of having an awful of a player as Izturis in your everyday lineup.
  12. That ship sailed months ago. IMO there is no one out there right now that would give us anything more than a low-level, will never see the MLB prospect, and even then it would be a miracle if they would pick up half the remaining salary for the year. A Wolf deal at this point I think would be strictly a salary dump which would really only come into play if we ended up selling other pieces and throwing in the towel.
  13. No offense, but Ishikawa who entered today with an .850 OPS and a positive WAR according to Fangraphs, isn't one of the problems with the Brewers on the year to date. He may turn into a liability before too much more time passes, but assessing the problems of the Brewers for the year to date excludes Ishikawa from the list of culprits. That is if we're being objective. Robert Have to admit, I hadn't looked at Ishikawa's stats but I had no idea he was putting up an .850 OPS. Yes agreed, objectively if he is putting up an .850 OPS this year than he definitely isn't part of the problem, though I doubt that will be sustainable. I will say that he has looked a lot poorer defensively than I expected with how much his glove at 1st was talked up, but that's a pretty marginal difference at 1st anyway, and that might be expected to swing in the other direction as well as the season progresses.
  14. You can't just send a vet to AAA though. I think they have to A) pass through waivers and B) accept the assignment.
  15. Maybe....its probably going to be like an '09 or '10 season again, record-wise. But if you're not going to win 85 or more and at least contend, 81 is no better than 65. We're beyond the point of .500 being a successful season.
  16. Just because good teams get off to bad starts does not make it inevitable that every team that isn't good for the first 25% of the season is going to turn it around. You don't need to be on the wrong side of the law of averages to be 16-24, you can just be not very good. The Angels, Phillies, and Red Sox are good teams off to bad starts, as we were last year when we were 14-20. This team has neither the depth nor talent to repeat history, and I think you're going to be disappointed if you're expecting this team to do the same you're going to be disappointed. I also don't agree that the NL isn't strong. Yes the extra Wild Card helps but you still need to be a top 5 team to get in and this team looks a lot closer to the bottom 5 than the top. Everyone in the NL East could be legit, other than the Mets who I think will fade but everyone else could be here for the long haul. St. Louis and Cincy can both be expected to contend as can the Dodgers and Giants. We have the worst run differential in the NL and second worst in all of baseball only to Minnesota who just beat us twice at home. We aren't just getting unlucky and losing a bunch of 1 run games. I get that people want to remain positive, but realistically, I'd be mildly surprised if this team finished better than .500 and stunned if they worked their way back into contention.
  17. I agree for the most part and I think he's well aware of what's wrong, I just found it hilarious that somehow a lack of naked clubhouse golf from Hairston, Kotsay, and Hawkins was used as a possible partial explanation of why the clubhouse is too stressed and thus losing games.
  18. When Ned Yost was in a playoff hunt and couldn't figure out why the team was struggling, he was fired for it. When Roenicke can't figure it out, he gets an extension. Not that either of them have any way of being able to answer that question and I'm not defending Yost, but I'm afraid that Roenicke's 96 win season is going to buy him way too much undeserved leeway.
  19. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120519&content_id=31724774&notebook_id=31727204&vkey=notebook_mil&c_id=mil Normal person's reasons why we are struggling this year: - Nyjer and especially Weeks, key parts of our offense this year, are really struggling - The bullpen is terrible, sorely missing Hawkins and Saito, and K-Rod has not been successful as a setup man - Ramirez not picking up the slack in Prince's old spot, OPS'ing .667 - Starting pitching has been awful being Greinke and Marcum - Defense has not improved, and Izturis and Ishikawa are poor players receiving a great deal of playing time - Giving up too many outs on the basepaths Roenicke's reasons why we are struggling this year: - Not enough "personality" on this club - Clubhouse is too quiet - Prince is missed because of his "big personality" - Naked golf not being played in the clubhouse
