  1. Well, the good news is that Doug got out of it, and someone other than us stranded 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. The bad news is, it's going to be yet another very short day for him and very long day for the bullpen.
  2. Doug, if Clay Hensley is giving you problems, it's going to be a long day.
  3. And Brady chases after Ball 4....
  4. See, THESE are the games we are going to need to win these games if we are going to contend. Yes, I know it's early, and yes I know we've played a tough schedule. We're 16-14, which isn't horrible considering our schedule, but it's not what would be "contending" later on in the season. Tonight, we played an inferior opponent, with arguably our best pitcher starting. We had a good chance to gain ground with our division competition losing. We couldn't get the offense going until it was too late, and when it really counted, we came up short with runners in scoring position and 1 out again. Then a questionable call in the 9th to "save" our best reliever for later ended things for good. These things do happen from time to time...but, if we finish 87-75 and miss out rather than 90-72 and getting to the playoffs, games like these are the ones we are going to come back and say "man....what if"?
  5. Well to me, it's simple logic. You can't win the game unless you get through the inning. You have one guy that gives you a better shot of that happening than anybody else. But yet you "save" him so that if you can get some runs later, THEN you get get your best shot at giving up no runs. Well, later doesn't come if you don't get through the inning first!
  6. Wear him out?? He has pitched 2 innings in the last 8 games. I hardly think wearing him out was a factor in him not being put in in the 9th today.
  7. I agree 100%. I made a post regarding this last season. It's a classic case of playing him only for the save situation, which is foolish. You need 0 runs in the 9th to have a chance. Any other result, you lose. The next inning? You're going to have to worry about that when the time comes, but for now, you need to give up 0 just to not lose. Why not use your pitcher that gives you the best chance for that? This is a very disappointing loss especially after getting back in the game. I hate that homeplate ump right now, but I also am concerned that we have virtually no one in the bullpen besides Turnbow and maybe Kolb right now that I can feel confident that can hold a tie or lead.
  8. Double by Hardy might have won the game if the HP ump called the same way for both sides and wasn't completely clueless.
  9. WHEW! Let's get a run, and turn it over to D'Bow.
  10. Lehr with the leadoff walk...doing nothing to improve my opinion of him....
  11. Justin Lehr in with basically the game on the line. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  12. He had breathing room today but wouldn't you say Turnbow is becoming one of the most dominant closers in baseball? I do believe that is 10 for 10 on the season so far. Last year was no fluke, folks.
  13. I'd have to say that's a bit of an exaggeration....if you expect a reliever to come in, pitch one inning, and give up runs more than half the time, you should probably look at replacing him. I do agree that Cappy 2 will be fine though, at least for now. I wasn't very impressed with his first couple of outings but he seems to have mostly pulled it together. I still wonder where this overpowering stuff that he supposedly has is, though. JDLR is another story. He's going to be on thin ice soon if he doesn't get it together. The shame of that would be, he clearly has the stuff...I'd hate to see him put it together somewhere else, like many have said.
  14. There's your insurance!!! As far as Yost having Hall bunt, I don't think it was a bad call. Sure, maybe Hall doubles to the gap but maybe he strikes out or grounds into a double play. You're willing to sacrifice the chance for a big inning here in order to get that 1 extra insurance run. 2 run lead here looks a lot better than 1. As it is, the lead is 3 right now so everybody is happy. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. They just love to continue to put Weeks on, don't they? We'll take it.
  16. Okay, now I'm fairly CERTAIN we'll see Wise in the 8th and Bow in the 9th. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  17. 5-4 from Mike Matheny nonetheless... Man oh man, don't blow this one, guys.
  18. Or this year's Jorge De La Rosa. Same story as last year.
  19. I think the answer you guys are looking for is the fact that we were up 5-0. Had it been a 1-3 run game, I think Ned would have gone with a "safer" pick from the bullpen, Cappy 2, Wise, Kolb, etc... Which we have now. So I could still be right about the 7th going to Cappy 2 and the 8th going to Wise. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. Hoo boy...let's not make this game any more interesting than it has to be.
  21. I don't think (at least I hope) that anyone suggested pulling Davis from the starting rotation. He seems to finally be coming around. Granted, it seems that he's still having some control issues, and luck was definitely on his side today, but great to see him get out of every jam he got in (and we better get him a win today). As far as seeing Little Ben today, won't happen if he is taking Okha's next start.
  22. I'm not certain that he'll make it through this one...
  23. Sharpie probably will be done after the 6th, with 85 pitches in already. I'm going to call the 7th and 8th for Cappy 2 and Wise.
  24. Anyone starting to think that Rickie Weeks might be in that leadoff spot for a long, long time?
  25. Doug gets out of trouble again. Pretty high PC though, might see the pen after 6 if this keeps up.
