    I think that you’re drastically overestimating what $15M will buy in free agency in 2032 and 2033 (or however they spread out the contract).

    That would really only be one extra year though, since Pratt is still young enough where they’d stash him early next season to buy the extra Super 2 year and play the service time game (which, who knows what that looks like after the next CBA). This path definitely comes with more risk, but higher reward. And at the end of the day, 50M in payroll spread out over 8 years or 20 M spread out over 6 won’t make a huge difference.

    I think it’s clear that Ortiz and Turang aren’t going to be here for the long haul. What, if anything, does this deal mean for Made and Pena?

    I think post 2027 with two years remaining is probably the sweet spot to trade Turang where you can still enjoy the benefits for two more seasons and still get a massive haul. Trade deadline 2027 would also be ideal if we aren’t contending, but I wouldn’t expect us not to be.

    Well the options are team options, so they make it more attractive, not less. That’s 4 years of cheap FA years team control if he ends up being a Turang level player. Presumably there are buyouts for those options, but getting the two option years is a huge plus for the team, and more of a concession for the player.

    At the end of the day, Boras works for the client (player), not the other way around. Boras I’m sure does educate the prospect on potential future earnings going year to year, but if the clients’ main goal is lifetime financial security (which is totally valid and understandable), Boras can and will facilitate that.

    The bottom line is that the Brewers know that the only way that they can afford to keep big time players here for a long time is to bet on them before they’re big and end up being right. I’ll defend deals like this every time they happen, because the absolute worst case scenario — Pratt is a complete bust, at 8/$50M, is hardly a blip on the radar and doesn’t affect our ability to compete.

    I mean it made sense when he was Pratt’s age. It doesn’t make sense now.

    Plus 2 club options. It’s 10 years of control, so arbitration plus 4 FA years.

    My assumption is that 2026-2033 are the 8 years with team options in 2034 and 2035.

    You might not be able to get 1 year of Turang for $50M by 2030 let alone 8.

    Is there anywhere that you can bet money on a teams’ over/under PECOTA projection? Seems like a near lock to take the over on the Brewers every year.

    I’m excited for at the fast start, while at the same time I think I’ll wait a few weeks to let things settle in before I even attempt to make any observations. Last year we looked like one of the worst teams in baseball after 4 games. That said, I’m eager to see what we get out of Harrison tonight. Also think we need to give Sprout at least 3-4 starts before we entertain AAA talk. I think he will rebound in his next start.

    Just too many runners left in scoring position today, There’s been chances to get back in this game.

    Yeah you’re not wrong. There are four lefties on the bench. It’s just the best current options we have versus a lefty. If I have a gripe it’s Contreras at DH, I know it’s good to get him a day off defensively at times, but today wasn’t an ideal choice.

    You never know in baseball when a moment will turn into that. I agree that you need to take the situation into account, but the “borderlineness” of a call should be taken into account, too. If it’s an egregiously bad call that you know you’re going to win, I am fine with challenging it regardless of situation. I think we know those when we see them. If it’s borderline, absolutely, consider the situation and score. From what I can tell so far, batters are too eager to challenge and pitchers/catchers are too reluctant. Seems like batters are forgetting that a pitch that just barely clips the zone is the same degree of a strike as a pitch right down the middle.
