    Took us all of 1 quarter for an undisciplined penalty. Would have been 3rd and long and now you’re going to give up points instead.

    I was sitting here following gameday wondering how we grounded into an inning ending double play and somehow went up from 6-1 to 9-2 in the same inning.

    Wow, pair of doubles for the two whipping boys in the lineup first time through.

    I understand the frustration with the short outings, but it’s a different game these days. It makes you appreciate the 7 inning outings from Quinn these days, but the last thing they want to do right now is blow out arguably the most talented arm in their organization.

    Yeah, the really, really soft part of their schedule ends tomorrow. They go to Atlanta after that, host Tampa, go to Pittsburgh and Cincy, then finish with the Mets and Cardinals. Not brutal by any means, but not the cakewalk they’ve had. And the cakewalk stretch has been 9-6 or 8-7 depending on if they win tomorrow. That’s not good enough against your easy stretch when you’re trying to make up 6 games.

    The Brewers sorta opened it up over the last month to make things interesting by playing .500 ball, it’s just that the Cubs are not good enough to capitalize and go on the kind of hot streak that we did. They swept the Angels and then followed it right up by getting swept by the Giants. When they have had a chance to get sweeps against bottom feeders like the Rockies and Braves and Nats, they can’t do it. They need sweeps, not series wins and they just kind of fail to get it out of neutral over and over again.

    Going to be pretty easy to get Rhys back in the lineup if Vaughn keeps swinging like that.

    It’s not hard to protect and not take a called 3rd strike with a man on 3rd and 1 out. I’m not even asking him to make contact here. Just don’t get caught looking in that situation. Need to know the situation. Taking a called 3rd strike right down the middle is ridiculous there. That’s mental. A physical mistake is swinging and missing at that third strike down the middle. I can at least live with the physical mistake.

    I agree that, to be impartial, looking at results, Arnold did not have a good trade deadline. However, when you consider the entirety of the seasons’ trades, getting a cost controlled #2 pitcher still nets him a positive for in-season activity. And of course, even in the short-term, Vaughn helped us win a lot of games this summer.

    Uribe can close. Megill has had a rough stretch, but we know he can too. Not a bad problem to have. I’d like them both effective, rested and healthy for the playoffs.

    That went from a really frustrating potential loss to a relatively smooth win in the last hour. Really good work. We’ll take it.

    I hate to pile on because he’s obviously done some nice things this game. But it drives me CRAZY when guys get caught totally guessing with a man on 3rd, 2 strikes, and 1 out, when a fly ball gets you a run. Know the situation. What are you doing? Swing the damn bat.

    Bauers has had a nice game. I’m not denying that. But good grief man, what in the world are you looking for there, on a 2 strike count with a man on 3rd?
