  1. That’s all fine and good, but you can’t be an everyday SS based only on defense alone and NO bat. You have to be able to offer at least minimal offensive production, even if just a ,675 OPS.
  2. I mean you guys don’t have to convince me that it would be better to be the #1. We need to start playing better baseball to make that happen.
  3. Not necessarily. If the 6 beat the 3 and you’re the 1, you’re still getting the 4/5.
  4. Depends who you ask here. I would say it matters, but the difference between the 1 and 2 is massively small compared to the difference between the 2 and 3.
  5. Well, they are 20 games over .500 at home this year and 13 over on the road, so .. yes. Still a very good team home or away, but like most teams, a higher winning percentage at home.
  6. I am not wildly confident in holding off Philly. The current lead makes it more likely than not, obviously, but it’s not something I’d be wagering a heavy bet on.
  7. I also thought he definitely had a play on Smith’s single and hit the brakes and laid up pretty early.
  8. Pretty .500ish team over the last month or so. Really need to start playing some better baseball.
  9. Have we given up a multi run HR this year in which one of the runs wasn’t walked on?
  10. They’re getting close to a point in the season when a 7 run outing by your starter in a loss is worth more than a 4-5 inning outing in a win. Not quite there yet, we need to at least make the division and bye all but a formality. But getting very close.
  11. Yep. It’s basically the opposite of the problem of no pass rush. You can have the best corners in football. If they have to cover for 10-15 seconds, it no longer matters. Someone is going to get open.
  12. They’re the most delusional fan base in football. Add a couple more weapons for Caleb, draft Loveland at #10 and then Burden in the early 2nd who doesn’t look close to ready, and continue to neglect the gaping holes in the trenches on the roster while the skill player rookies sit on the sidelines, and they think they’re back every year. Rinse and repeat. Caleb looks frantic in the pocket on every down, always looking to run instead of pass. Not sure if he’s just a bust or if the Bears have doomed him by not putting their line development before their skill players.
  13. Here’s some encouraging news beyond W/L this time of year: - Uribe has had 3 days off in a row - Koenig has had 3 days off in a row - Ashby has pitched 1 out of the last 4 days - Megill is getting close - Hall was cleared for activities again and could make it back late this month Assuming that we don’t play in the WC round and clinch the bye with a series or two left in the season, it will be interesting to see how Murphy balances rest versus rust.
  14. Lol Bears gonna Bear.
  15. Probably, I don’t think you can risk the difference in defense between Ortiz and Mona in a playoff game. Plus I think Joey is probably better offensively than what his 2025 output indicates so his numbers don’t necessarily exactly match what we expect to get going forward.
  16. Good D at SS buys you a lot of grace, but it’s not a permanent pass for a spot in the lineup. You can’t be a complete black hole.
  17. Phillies now within 4.5. Bear in mind that although it’d be disappointing if they caught us, it would not be the end of the world. The first round bye would still be in play, which is the most important thing. Also the whole pen besides Rodriguez (who is irrelevant, let’s be honest) got the day off.
  18. Bad 0-2 pitch plus walks equaled disaster for Quintana, but it was all academic anyway because the offense did nothing. Take the silver lining of the Cubs gaining no ground and move on to tomorrow.
  19. That has to be grounding.
  20. This is kind of an interesting call because he’s already got a knee down when the ball is punched out, so if he’s even touched he’s down. But what if the ball is punched out without him actually being touched? (Which it looks like it might have been)
