  1. Heh, I just read that a minute ago and came here to see if it was being discussed. Yeah, I think it's a good sign that they're leaving the door open for him to return to starting.
  2. Jacob Beltre ended up signing with the Padres for just $60K.
  3. If you pay $15M for Mark Mulder, you're doing it wrong.
  4. David Fonseca, the Brewers' 8th-round pick in 2007 who last played in 2008 and was placed on the suspended list in July, was officially released.
  5. Darren Ford was a victim of armed robbery, but was fortunately uninjured.

  7. Adam Foster at Project Prospect notes that Cain's lost a significant amount of weight over the season.

  10. Haudricourt's transcribed his BA chat on the JS blog.
  11. Ben Badler on Mark Rogers: Interesting that he still throws across his body. I thought trying to correct that was what possibly got him hurt in the place; did the Brewers just let him go back to his original mechanics after all the shoulder problems?
  12. This doesn't detract from your overall point in any way, but in the interest of correctness, Dykstra actually OPSed .805 in the Pioneer League in 2008; the .768 is overall. To address the actual issue: it's tough to tell what exactly happened to Dykstra last year. Obviously at least some of his problems were due to mental anguish, but that effect is impossible to quantify and thus difficult to discuss without turning the conversation into amateur psychology hour. I don't think he belongs on any Brewers prospect list at the moment, but I think that there's so much unknown here that everyone should at least reserve the possibility that Dykstra bounces back next year to become a decent prospect again. Basically, while last season was not positive in any regard, I'm willing to give him a mulligan; if he produces next year, I wouldn't hesitate to write off 2009 as simply a star-crossed season.

  14. More praise for Lucroy from Baseball America:
  15. Well, that determines how much the other team values him. What I'm talking about is the Brewers making it obvious that they don't especially value him, which weakens their position in any trade involving him. It's similar to Hardy in that he's a more valuable player in general than he was to the Brewers specifically, and the Brewers ended up dealing him for value equivalent to what Hardy was worth to them, which is a mistake.
  16. McCalvy has Mark Rogers on his AFL stint and overall season: Amen.
  17. McCalvy reports that Heether's back in the States with a minor intercostal strain and that Gamel will be heading to Venezuela the day after Thanksgiving but won't see a game until early December. Also, congratulations on getting married, Mat.
  18. It's interesting how things work out, isn't it? Cain is less than five months older than Schafer but entered the Brewers system four years before him, and yet here we sit, thanks to Cain's lost season last year, with both players in approximately the same spot. As long as his defense is as good as reported, I do think Schafer is being underrated. As for Salome, like TheCrew07 said, BA has always hated him, the Brewers seem to hate him, and Haudricourt hates everyone. It's still really weird how the Brewers refuse to even attempt to build up Salome's value, at least publicly. Now it seems like they're being forced into a position of possibly dealing him away for much less than he's worth (where have we heard that before?).
  19. Rattler Radio, "faster than the internet", has the Brewers top 10, along with some selected comments on players who could see time at Wisconsin next year.
  20. Josh, I was actually defending you, but if you want to claim the statement, fine; doesn't change the fact that Goldstein could have gotten it from any number of people. I'm glad that he's one of your best friends.
  21. Well, that "ESPN.com release" is actually just syndication of Kevin Goldstein's column from Baseball Prospectus; Goldstein lives in DeKalb and sees a lot of MWL games, so I'd imagine there are plenty of people who could have passed him that information beyond Josh Kusnick. Goldstein not attributing the information to a team source does not mean it did not come from a team source.
  22. Ben Badler joins the Lucroy love-fest:
  23. Sorry, it's just habit to go to the minor league transactions thread.
  24. The Brewers claimed catcher George Kottaras off waivers from the Red Sox. They drafted his brother, James, in the 45th round in 2008 but didn't sign him.
  25. You'd think with the Javelinas game being 15-13 in the 5th inning, there would be some interesting Brewers stat lines, either for good (hitters) or bad (pitchers), but there's not much going on. No Milwaukee pitchers have gotten into the game so far, and it's just Green and Lucroy on the offensive side. Lucroy started and is 1-4 with a double and two strikeouts, while Green entered the game as a pinch-runner in the 3rd and tallied an RBI double in his first plate appearance. EDIT: As I was typing this, Green hit a three-run bomb. Awesome! (box / gameday)
