  1. And the T-Rats game ends on Delaney getting thrown out at second trying to advance on a wild pitch. Fitting.
  2. Through six innings, Chris Dennis has the only two Wisconsin hits, including a double. John Delaney has no official at-bats, having walked three times. As for Scarpetta, he'll qualify for a 4th option year, and he's only 20, so there's no need to rush him unless he's blowing the doors off a league.
  3. Evan Anundsen showed up in Tuesday's Daily Dish from Baseball America: The article also notes that the Manatees have the best record in MiLB.
  4. Baseball America with an article on Stock, saying that he's likely to get drafted as a pitcher, and that he'll pitch if he's asked to, though he prefers catching. They say he's expected to go between the second and fifth rounds.
  5. Scarpetta struck out the side in the third. Salome has a double.
  6. Bobby Bramhall gave up three runs in the first inning, but the Stars came back with six runs in the bottom of the inning, including consecutive two-run doubles from J.R. Hopf and Freddy Parejo, the 7th- and 8th-place hitters.
  7. Nice work from Jeffress so far tonight: 4 IP, 3 K, 0 BB, and just one hit. He's outdueling Twins top prospect Carlos Gutierrez, though Gutierrez is continuing his crazy ground ball ways. EDIT: 5 IP, 5 K, 0 BB, 1 H now. Awesome. EDIT 2: Jeffress hit Ben Revere in the 6th, but that's it, and he struck out another batter. Two baserunners in six innings, with no walks, is brilliant.
  8. Given that both Garcia and Arias hit under .200 last year, I'd imagine they'll be back in the AZL.
  9. You'd think someone like Jose Duran would make a better left fielder than Brock Kjeldgaard, but as Cutter Dykstra showed, that's not always true.
  10. A few Brewers farmhands (Eric Farris, Alcides Escobar, and Adam Stern) show up on this list from Baseball America of most aggressive base stealers.
  11. I'll add colby's mock draft to the list, as soon as he updates it http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. I figured I'd collect a bunch of mock drafts in one place for easy reference. Feel free to post more. I'll try to update the post as the mock drafts themselves are updated. Baseball America: 3B Matt Davidson, Yucaipa HS (CA) Baseball Prospectus: RHP Drew Storen, Stanford University Jonathan Mayo: OF Mike Trout, Millville HS (NJ) colbyjack: 3B Matt Davidson, Yucaipa HS (CA) Project Prospect: C Luke Bailey, Troup County HS (GA) MLB Outsider: RHP Matt Hobgood, Norco HS (CA) Andy Seiler: OF Jared Mitchell, LSU Sporting News: RHP Eric Arnett, Indiana University Minor League Ball community: C Max Stassi, Yuba City HS (CA) MyMLBDraft.com: 3B Matt Davidson, Yucaipa HS (CA)
  13. Project Prospect has the Brewers taking Bailey in the first round.
  14. Great to see Gillespie with a homer. Strange to see a Braddock appearance with no strikeouts. Another XBH for Chris Dennis.
  15. Why are you using Butlers stats from last year? He's not. Butler's GB% is 53.1 this year. Butler's peripherals are really uninteresting, but the main problem I have with him is that even those peripherals have to be downgraded after accounting for the fact that this is his third (not second) extended look at the FSL, which is a pitching-friendly environment. 24-year-olds with any kind of big league stuff repeating a pitcher's league should be putting up much more impressive numbers than Butler. There's just way around that.
  16. The URL for the Wisconsin box score didn't work for me. Here's the correct one: http://web.minorleaguebas...09_05_29_wisafx_wmiafx_1
  17. Chad Moeller cycles back out of the Majors after being DFA'd to make room for Jesus Wieters.
  18. Chad Moeller cycles back out of the Majors after being DFA'd to make room for Jesus Wieters.
  19. I'm intrigued by Robert Stock. Despite being a college junior, he's just a couple months older than Brett Lawrie, so he's roughly the age of a prep player, but with three years of college under his belt, presumably much more polished than one. I've heard he's got a nice sinker and curve and a better changeup than a lot of guys. Where do you (colby, X, etc) see him going? Would he be a reasonable supplemental round pick for the Brewers? Is the fact that he would rather catch a problem?
  20. If Lawrie can stick at second, it limits his upside as a prospect only in the sense that second base isn't as valuable a defensive position as catcher; however, second base is still a plenty valuable defensive position in its own right, and finding a bat as good as Lawrie's that can hack it at second is a plus. Now, if Lawrie had to move to right field or first base, that would severly limit his upside. As far as "second base prospect" being somewhat of an oxymoron, it's true that many Major League second basemen began as shortstops, because players naturally progress to less-difficult positions as they age, bulk up, and slow down. Oftentimes players who enter professional baseball as second basemen lack the athleticism to play there at a high level, but it's not unheard of, as we should well know with Rickie Weeks. Weeks, like Lawrie, has more than enough athleticism to play second base, but is lacking in fluidity and experience.
  21. Character-building fifth inning for Jeffress: ball high (fastball) ball outside foul foul called strike ball inside (fastball) ball outside ?? ball ?? ball foul foul ball outside check-swing strike ?? ball ball high & outside (fastball) called strike called strike ball low/wild pitch ball high ("very high") *mound visit* ball outside ball outside (fastball) ball high & outside called strike called strike ?? ball ("very close", Jeffress was visibly upset) called strike single lined back up the middle called strike swinging strike foul swinging strike You can tell he was wearing out, falling behind hitters. I had hope he'd get out of it without allowing a run after he got a first-pitch strike on Guzman, but it was not to be. Still, it was nice to see him rally rather than imploding.
  22. Gindl walks on four pitches. Odd lapse from Shaw, who had only one walk previously. EDIT: Steffan Wilson's RBI single was not well-struck. Broken-bat blooper into center.
  23. Jeffress' fourth inning: ?? (at least one strike) swinging strike ball in dirt swinging strike ball inside (fastball) called strike (fastball) called strike called strike ball called strike swinging strike grounder to first (nice play by Errecart)
