  1. That's not exactly true. Certainly Anundsen is living on the edge with regard to his velocity--a few MPH slower and his fastball would probably be unworkable--but with a good sinker, good control, and a good birthdate, I'm content to see what he turns into. Seeing how much of his success this year has been due to the FSL will be interesting, but you can't just dismiss the across-the-board improvement in his peripherals. After all, if dominating the FSL was as simple as having a good sinker, your man Johs Butler would have been in AA long ago.
  2. Escobar getting on base at a .300 clip would spell Weeks from the leadoff spot? God, I hope not.
  3. From Gord Ash's twitter: "Brett Lawrie suffered a broken nose last night when struck by a bad hop ground ball. he is not expected to miss any significant time."
  4. No, Braddock and Scarpetta (and to a lesser extent Peralta) are all very exciting. Nice to have in the face of such abject failure from Jeffress so far this season.
  5. I don't follow. McGehee doesn't and isn't playing shortstop. With Counsell on the team, this is the perfect place for a guy like Heether, if you think he can't play shortstop (something I remain agnostic on).
  6. No movement in the top nine, interesting. Given the stuff Dillard showed out of the pen last year, he has to be above guys like Anundsen/Brewer/Aguilar, doesn't he?
  7. Trejo made the most of his return to Wisconsin with two doubles, which is great to see. Rigoberto Almonte, not so much.
  8. Why did Lawrie leave the game?
  9. People always said Wily Mo Pena played much better in CF than in a corner, and his UZR's agree with that opinion. It's unusual but not unheard of.
  10. Well, there is Jeff Suppan. Kidding aside, if Butler's "power sinker" was so great, he should be dominating the FSL, especially the third time around. This isn't a conversation about what Anundsen is, but rather what Butler isn't: a good prospect.
  11. X, Butler's and Anundsen's GB rates are quite similar, and Anundsen's strikeout rate, walk rate, and hit rate are superior to Butler's. This is also Butler's third year in the FSL, and he's three years older than Anundsen. Not saying Anundsen is any great prospect, but if he isn't one, Butler sure as hell isn't one either.
  12. Yes, Turnbow was released.

  14. Gillespie did play some RF for Huntsville last year.
  15. Gillespie is exactly the 4th outfielder the Brewers need. Now they just need to install Bill Hall into Casey McGehee's role and get rid of McGehee himself.
  16. Nelson Figueroa DFA'd again. Paul Bako signed with the Phillies.

  18. I like how we're now saying that Jeffress is even dumber than someone who used steroids/HGH. Because he smoked pot? Are you kidding me?
  19. Interesting that Scarpetta was featuring the changeup as his second pitch and only occasionally throwing his curve; sounds like a mandate from above to me. With an average changeup, he could be great.
  20. Uh yeah, he's been dealing with weather a lot lately.
  21. Sigh. Wheels came off for JJ in the 5th. It looked on Gameday like he got squeezed on a couple calls, but jeez, plenty were head-high, too.
  22. Great work from Scarpetta, except for the walks; the no hits and six strikeouts speak to his great stuff. Good to see Chris Dennis get off to a good start with a double and a walk.
  23. Another rough start from Jeffress, but at least he hasn't completely collapsed yet. 67 pitches through 3 innings.
