  1. Anundsen won't need to strike out a ton of guys if he continues to generate so many ground balls, but I certainly wouldn't be opposed to him doing it!
  2. Quad Cities 2B Brett Lilley was hit twice by Sherrill, and once by Scarpetta, encompassing his first three plate appearances, all of which came in the first two innings! He got hit by both Scarpetta and Sherrill in the first inning. Just bizarre.
  3. Gindl made Kevin Goldstein's Monday Ten Pack at BP:
  4. Cain explains exactly what happened:
  5. MLS has him as +17 runs/150 in RF last year according to TotalZone, which is elite.
  6. Here, or in general? In general, there were/are lots. 5'9" corner outfielders don't get a lot of respect.
  7. Giles also wasn't even a semi-regular in the big leagues until he was 26.
  8. He can't throw very well because of arm surgery, so he's limited to left field.
  9. 8/2 K/BB is nice, but Jeffress still threw way too many balls. Way too many pitches, period. 91 pitches in 5 innings, only 55 for strikes.
  10. Trwi7 said pretty much everything I wanted to say regarding the T-Rats. Peralta did indeed show impressive stuff, despite the command problems. After he allowed the two runs, he walked the next batter, which prompted a mound visit. He then impressively carved up Josh Vitters with a bunch of inside stuff to get the K and end the inning. I'm glad someone else noticed the 96 reading on Ritchie, too. I was scratching my head at that one. Kjeldgaard's homer was completely crushed. He's clearly got a good idea of what he's doing up there as well; I hope they push him aggressively to see if they have anything there.
  11. His September callup definitely does not count as one day. He has 28 days of service time.
  12. Though the average season has 183 days in it, a player can only accumulate 172 days of service time in a year; 172 days constitutes a "year" of service, and a player is eligible for free agency after six years, so we'd have to keep Gamel down for 12 days, plus the 28 he already accrued last September, for a total of 40 days, so right around May 15th.
  13. I think you missed the fact that he hit for the cycle today! (technically) Oh yeah, I definitely missed the single in the second game. Damn, the XBH% is down to 80.
  14. Hey hey, Lawrie with yet another XBH, this time a home run. Given the generous scoring of his "double" earlier today, he now has 9 career hits, 8 of which were for extra bases. Man.
  15. According to Keith Law, Lambertus touches 95.
  16. This just made me laugh. I mean...you know why Ruth didn't bat a whole lot between ages 20 and 22, right?
  17. Lawrie made a couple nice defensive plays, leaping high to spear a line drive once and then in the ninth inning making a sharp, strong throw to third on a grounder to get a runner trying to advance from second. The announcers were kind of scratching their heads trying to think of the last time they saw a second baseman try to throw ahead of a runner like that, but hey, he got the out. Generous scoring to give him a double on his hit, IMO; lots of defensive hijinks on that play. In addition to the hit, he also lined out sharply earlier; Reid Nichols trotted out the old "the ball just sounds different off his bat" saw when he was in the booth. Nice game at the plate from Dykstra, especially the stolen bases, which are his first two of the year; however, he looked pretty bad out in center, but then again it was very windy.
  18. Jason Tyner was traded to the Tigers for...something unspecified.
  19. And of course, Jeff's important addendum to the TotalZone ranking:
  20. X, I know it looks like I only posted one link (sorry), but there's actually two; if you follow the first, you'll find an evaluation of Gamel's defense last year according to TotalZone.
