  1. Illinois and Indiana did this for the longest time. Out of curiosity, I looked into it and looks like Illinois stopped doing this fifteen years ago. Looks as if Indiana has the semis at two remote locations on a Saturday and play the final the following Saturday. Love it or hate, I applaud the WIAA for thinking outside the box. Up until not long ago that wasn't always the case.
  2. Anyone following either basketball tournaments? Any thoughts on how the WIAA did the girls this weekend or the same for the boys next weekend? For a while now I thought the WIAA should go the way of holding five classes at five different sites and televise D1 and stream the other divisions. And given that, maybe return to the days of eight teams and the consolation bracket. This year, three classes at La Crosse and two at Oshkosh. Each class plays semis and final the same day.
  3. Why would he be talking with Mark Kotsay? He's been gone from the Brewers for years.
  4. Have you thought about just buying an RV? Cheaper than a home and you have more mobility. Stay in WI during the summer and then AZ or FL in the winter. This is basically what I am thinking if I ever retire. Get an RV and just live everywhere in the US. Sounds enticing, but doesn't match my personality. I enjoy exploring new places, but eventually need to return to a home base.
  5. Why sell? I never understood that, but i hear people say it. Unless your plan is to sell now, rent or live with a relative, then wait to buy when the next market dip happens. If not, then you’re just selling your 200k house (that was 130) and buying another 200k house (that used to be 130) or buying a 130k house that used to be 100k. Which presumably is less house than you have currently. If the entire market is going up, unless your plan is to NOT buy a new home, your not really gaining anything besides the headache of moving. OK, my bad. I left out that moving to a rental would be needed to make it pay off. That is why she scoffed at the thought. Plus, we are most likely within ten years of retirement, which means selling anyways and retiring to our TBD forever-city.
  6. But are they lefties? Future LOGGY's? How about catcher?
  7. Due to Dane County restrictions, they couldn't practice and play as a "team". So somewhere got around it by forming a temp "club". That is the thing I'm surprised the WIAA didn't look into to. When restrictions eased, went back to a team.
  8. That isn't surprising in this market. If I were more brave, I would sell all of my properties right now and then look to buy later after the adjustment. We bought ours for $130K and at one time could have gotten $170K just before the crash, where it dropped to $120K. Now, I could get $200K, if not more. A couple of months ago I mentioned to the wife that if the market starts to drop again, we're selling and cashing in on the profit. I won't make the same mistake twice. She wasn't too happy with the suggestion.
  9. I live in a condo community in Waukesha. Last year, I had six neighbors who had lived here fewer than four years sell their property at a gain that computes to an annual 6%-8%.
  10. Or they could live in Pewaukee and he commutes to work to the north and she commutes to the south.
  11. Already a Schlitz (business) Park.
  12. So, are these jobs in Milwaukee, or just Chicago/Boston/SF?
  13. Depends on what you are looking for and where. Lots of IT jobs have opened up lately. Yeah, I think a lot has to with supply-demand issues. My last four jobs I was like the only person they interviewed. Now, I'm lucky to make it to the Final Four. Majority of my applications are going unacknowledged. I obtained an IT certification twenty years ago, but was useless without experienced. I kinda envy you guys. I'm hearing it is difficult to fill low-level positions. If nothing else, I would no problem getting a McJob as a brige until the market sorts itself out.
  14. The current job market. It seems worse now than in 2011.
  15. I would prefer to lose where the win prob was <50% most of the game. You have three hours to adjust to the fact that it isn't going to happen. Conversely, to have it for the taking then only to lose it is a tougher pill to swallow. Given that, I was over the Seattle loss in 24 hours because the Packers were a 9-pt dog with a 16-0 NE team up next.
  16. The obituary for the Frank Charles, Brewer's organist in the 70's and 80's, appeared in this morning's paper. He had retired to Florida.
  17. Ah, the first name that immediately popped into my head, but you beat me to it. Saw him play one time in Nashville, I have a picture but have no way to upload it. And yes, I believe he requested a position switch to the OF despite the catcher position an easier pipeline to MLB.
  18. The two games I attended were near sell outs.
  19. Either was preferable to BLAST Fitness, which went downhill real quick.
  20. I remember watching this game as well. Didn't Rodgers have a long scramble for a TD? One thing about that time is IIRC Rodgers was thought to be injury prone and was questioned as to if he was durable enough to play in the league.
  21. I believe their only other time at #1 was briefly mid-season when promptly lost to Minnesota. They were underdogs in all of three national title matches. Only one heart breaking loss I can think of was the 1997 Regional Final. Not sure if it is fair to compare VB to FB or MBB.
  22. Pretty sure that was ABC's "Monday Night Baseball".
  23. Maybe 78/79? The '78 season was the first successful season for the expansion team and was unexpected. The '79 team with Hisle and the rest won 95 and I consider one of the best until 2011.
  24. The trade acquiring Sutton was huge. I don't remember who the #5 guy was up until then (Medich? McClure?). I believe the finale' against the Orioles was the most important game in team history (until recently) and he was the starter. Also, he wasn't just a rental like nowadays. He stuck around a couple more seasons. However with that said, no one mentions his wretched performance in the WS. If he comes through in just one of his two starts, the Brewers likely take it. But just getting there was half the battle.
  25. I got it for my dad for Christmas 25 years ago. He never has gotten around to watching it. As they prepared to sell the house 18 months ago, I saw it sitting on the floor and I rescued it. Why not? I paid $180 for it.
