  1. It was nice driving by MP last evening and seeing lights and a functioning scoreboard.
  2. True, but only allowed 25% at this time.
  3. https://madison.com/wsj/sports/soccer/forward-madison-fc-has-new-home-field-in-wauwatosa-for-2020-season/article_3bbf8410-3686-528f-965d-9918ba4948b5.html Well, at least Milwaukee will have outdoor soccer for the first time in forever. I may attend a match or two.
  4. I'm with you in that I started losing interest in the ASG some 30 years ago, but back when baseball was truly America's Pastime the ASG was a big deal. Seeing the '81 game was fun because I remember watching it live. The players in the '75 and '81 games were the ones I watched growing up. Watching the first few innings of the '65 game was fun from a historical perspective.
  5. Not necessarily a must see, but this past Friday watched "Brian's Song" completely unaware yesterday was the 50th anniversary of Brian Piccolo's death.
  6. Pretty much agree with this. I've watched a few German matches as well and I just get this feel I'm watching exhibition matches. Although, a few stadiums have piped in crowd noises (including jeering the referee) and still use a PA announcer. Corny as it sounds, it does add a dimension to it. I'm thinking the rescheduled Tour de France in September may be the first normal event, since they have zero reliance on ticket sales, just sponsorships and TV ads. Spectators can still line the roads. I've already stated my thoughts on any 2020 baseball season.
  7. Ringo did indeed pass away over the weekend. And the Bucky on Parade dedicated to him vandalized the next day.
  8. Watching the '86 Mets-BoSox on NBCSN last night brought up this thought. It's been nice viewing all the old 1982 games an such, but the thing no one wants to talk about is how in the early 80's the Mets and Brewers were regarded to have the two strongest farm systems and what became of it? The Brewers with one pennant and no world championship, the Mets with just the one (serendipitous) World Series win.
  9. Admirals declared AHL champions on Monday.
  10. With the recent broadcasts of Brewers Post-Season Classics, I was curious to go back and calculate each player's win shares from each of the six teams. Then I came across this http://seamheads.com/baseballgauge/blog/?p=438. What the author did was extend the individual game win share concept to Series win probability and a World Championship win probability. So out of curiosity I calculated the most pivotal plays in post season history and listed below. I did a single series because the tension of advancing or the end of the season. I did the WC odds so that everything is in perspective. What happens in the LCS is half as important as the WS. The WC is three rounds removed from the WS, so it is reduced by a factor of eight. We're familiar with many plays (Cooper's hit, Soto's hit) but I find interesting the magnitude of certain plays stacking up with one another. I know Puig's homer in Game 7 sucked, but hadn't realized it was the third worst play in PS history and so on. Couldn't quite get this to format they way I liked. Review, enjoy and comment. The Brewers have six post-season appearances, played in nine series. Top Ten important plays to help win a series, per series win probability: 1. 1982-ALCS-G5 Cooper's single +0.36 (from 44% to 80%) 2. 2011-NLDS-G5 Morgan's single +0.28 3. 2011-NLDS-G5 Betancourt's single +0.16 4. 2011-NLDS-G5 Robert's groundout +0.16 5. 1982-WSer-G7 Molitor's single +0.16 6. 2011-NLDS-G5 Goldschmidt's strikeout+0.16 7. 2019-NLWC-G1 Grandal's home run +0.14 8. 1982-WSer-G7 Oglivie's home run +0.14 9. 1982-ALCS-G5 Oglivie's home run +0.14 10.2018-NLDS-G1 Moustakis's single +0.13 Top Ten important plays to help win a World Championship, per series win probability: 1. 1982-ALCS-G5 Cooper's single +0.182 2. 1982-WSer-G7 Molitor's single +0.157 3. 1982-WSer-G7 Oglivie's home run +0.138 4. 1982-WSer-G7 Gantner's double +0.108 5. 1982-WSer-G4 Thomas's single +0.094 6. 1982-WSer-G4 Cooper's single +0.082 7. 1982-WSer-G4 Yount's single +0.077 8. 1982-WSer-G7 Smith's fly out +0.069 9. 2011-NLDS-G5 Morgan's single +0.069 10.1982-WSer-G7 Yount's single +0.065 Top Ten important plays (daggers) to help lose a series, per series win probability: 1. 2019-NLWC-G1 Soto's single/E9 -0.58 2. 1982-WSer-G7 Hernandez's single -0.27 3. 2018-NLCS-G7 Puig's home run -0.25 4. 1981-ALDS-G5 Jackson's home run -0.25 5. 2011-NLDS-D5 Parra's double -0.19 6. 2011-NLDS-G5 Bloomquist's single -0.18 7. 2018-NLCS-G7 Bellinger's home run -0.18 8. 2011-NLCS-G5 Burrough's single -0.16 9. 1982-ALCS-G5 Yount's GIDP -0.15 Top Ten important plays to help lose a World Championship, per series win probability: 1. 1982-WSer-G7 Hernandez's single -0.270 2. 1982-WSer-G7 Lonnie Smith's double -0.146 3. 2018-NLCS-G7 Puig's home run -0.127 4. 1982-WSer-G2 Porter's double -0.105 5. 1982-WSer-G3 McGee's home run -0.099 6. 1982-WSer-G7 Hendrick's single -0.095 7. 1982-WSer-G7 Herr's single -0.095 8. 2018-NLCS-G7 Bellinger's home run -0.088 9. 1982-WSer-G7 Lonnie Smith's single -0.078 10.1982-ALCS-G5 Yount's GIDP -0.075 11.2019-NLWC-G1 Soto's single/E9 -0.073
  11. Does OPS+ include fielding stats? I don't think it does. Scott was an elite fielder (Black Beauty), was even mentioned during the just televised 1975 ASG on FSW.
  12. Check their population age demographics, and it wouldn't surprise me if they happen to be a state with a larger percentage of people with comorbidities that covid 19 is difficult on. Plus ATL was the busiest airport in the country last time I checked. GA was actually among the earliest group of states with cases, they have probably gotten around to testing on a more rapid pace so the total confirmed numbers appear to be spiking Today I see their hotspot is away from ATL, instead the southwest part of the state. With their recent actions, will be very interesting to see what becomes of this.
  13. Ah, the power went out at 9:18 pm. No lights, no TV, no internet, no power, no CPAP. No job to go to in the morning. Everything closed during the day. This was my first anxiety attack since the order was issued. Gladly, power resumed three hours later. (Same incident last July and power was out 36 hours).
  14. Average humidity in wisconsin February 2019 - low 70s Average humidity in Louisiana February 2019 - mid 70s Last time I checked the outbreak in Louisiana didnt occur in July when it's actually high humidity. And Louisiana doesnt have significantly higher humidity in February when compared to winter climates. Plus you are cherry picking a state that probably has some of the worst air pollution in the country due to industry in some of its hardest hit areas of viral spread that leads to a higher than normal occurrence of respiratory comorbidities. I'm actually surprised their death toll isnt much higher than it is given the fact Mardi gras basically went off without any restrictions right before everyone freaked out. Humid air has more water in it that can absorb airborne particles, and that added material in air prevents aerosols from spreading as far as they would in drier air. There doesnt need to be a study on that. Humidity probably doesnt do anything to kill the actual virus, but it does help prevent how easily it could spread in the air, which would in turn lower its R parameter. Please keep in mind the difference between relative humidity and absolute humidity. RH is what you see on the screen during the 10:00 weather. 70% RH in April is not the same as 70% RH in August.
  15. Governor Evers has extended his order until May 26. I'm watching the presser now. Upthread I posted "if I were King for a day..." and stated the metrics I would be using. Evers is using a different set of metrics listed in this article, so we're not on the same page. https://biztimes.com/evers-dr-raymond-weigh-in-on-when-wisconsin-can-reopen-the-economy/?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&utm_medium=email&utm_content=Daily%3A+Evers%2C+Raymond+weigh+in+on+when+Wisconsin+can+reopen+its+economy&utm_campaign=20200414+Daily Watching the presser, neither Evers or the other two have once mentioned total cases or rate of new cases. The focus has been on infrastructure: current lack of PPE for front line and general workforce, inability of wide spread testing and lack of contact tracing. It's these things that is now preventing the opening of the economy. I'm not in a position to say yea or nay to today's news.
  16. Does anyone know why Georgia has developed into a hot spot the last few days? The other states I can understand. GA has Atlanta, but lacks other major population centers.
  17. Strength training. Didn't take off until the 80's. Yount and Soderbloom were pioneers when they did the Nautilas thing prior to the 1979 season. With mechanics, now you video analysis and such that wasn't around or thought of back then.
  18. I forgot to premise that I did not evaluate total cases. Instead, cases per 100K. So yes, these counties are top ten in cases per whatever (>40 per 100K residents). The state median is 17. New York State is 965. Also, in the 62 safest counites continue stay-at-home for the over-65.
  19. I was looking at some numbers yesterday. Wisconsin appears to have four hot zones: #1: Milwaukee/Racine/Kenosha - economic corridor #2: Ozaukee/Washington/Waukesha - collar counties #3: Dane/Columbia/Sauk - UW & BR towns #4: Fond du Lac - Nile River trip These ten counties have 2693 of the 3213 cases and 124 of the 137 deaths. I'd say continue the order in each region until daily new cases recede for that region + 14 days. The remaining 62 counties could re-open non-essential business if they operate at 50% capacity and maintain social distancing. Re-open the parks. Don't know about re-opening the schools. Detractors will point out limited hospital facilities if the cases were to start increasing.
  20. To all, riddle me this: how often does Wisconsin celebrate the '81 team? Not nearly as often as the '82 team. I was tickled they finally put up a pennant to acknowledge the '81 team.
  21. FS Wisconsin is replaying the 1982 ALCS this week. Game 3- After 38 years, my first chance to watch the game. It was played on a Friday afternoon and I was in eleventh grade. No smart phones or social media, so no way to follow live this elimination game. The infamous fan-interference HR was the first pitch of the eight inning. Everyone talks how it almost cost them the game, but reality was the score was already 5-0 in the eight. I was completely unaware that Rollie Fingers was still on the active roster. He was warming up in the bullpen in the ninth. I thought he was shutdown the first week of September. Don Sutton had a nasty curveball. It's kinda nice to go back and watch this now that I have a better appreciation of the game. Game 4- Broadcast on Friday night.
  22. From what generation did all of the kids go on spring break this year? I know it is a relative sample size, but people in their late teens / early to mid 20's don't seem to take this as serious as older folks. Today, I met up with an old acquaintance from when I worked in central Wisconsin a few years ago. She relocated to the Madison area a couple of years ago. She has two sons, ages 21 and 19. They come down to Madison twice a month to hang out. So far she has been unable to convince them to stay in Wood County (one positive test) for the time being and avoid exposing themselves to a hot spot.

  24. Cleaning up the house. There's been some neglect over the last seventeen years. Drove into Madison a couple of times to have lunch with an old friend. Catch up on back issues of Track & Field News. Had some stuff DVR'd off the Olympic Channel to catch up on. After that, the only sports I have is Brewers games on DVD. My wife will be running her "virtual marathon" Sunday morning. I've been on the bike this week measuring out her course. Half done, finish up Friday and Saturday. The marathon will go from Waukesha to Helenville. The good folks of Helenville have no idea they are hosting a marathon Sunday. Just my way of getting out of the house and away from the television. Get some exercise. Then I myself will resume running again next week.
  25. Now the latest news that no more sit-down restaurants or bars. I'm getting to feel this is trending into over reaction territory. Convince me I'm wrong. I was at the Workforce Development Center in Pewaukee this afternoon to see that they were to shut down at 5 pm today. So all these suddenly unemployed people have one less resource at their disposal. My good friend was furloughed from Famous Dave's this morning. Already had plans to have lunch with him tomorrow, so will see how he is doing. I was talking to my massage therapist last week and he has a son who has a background in biology/genetics. According to him, COVID-19 pales in comparison to the Swine Flu, and we didn't have all these precautions with the Swine Flu. Take it for what it's worth.
