  1. I don't think it does make a ton of sense because it's a perfect time to bring in an up and coming offensive HC option who can learn on the job rent-free and possibly even help you identify some gems through the draft or development. Sure you don't have a QB, but you're very likely to get a top pick the next two years to take your shot while building a foundation of a few young building blocks from 2022 and 2023 and resetting your cap situation. The Allen selection only really makes sense if Payton takes a 1 or 2 year leave of absence and then comes back. Allen mans the helm and respectfully steps back to DC once his buddy comes back.
  2. I think the coach hiring cycle this year was interesting for a few reasons. The narrative was initially about Jim Harbaugh, but reports all seem to lead to him wanting the Gruden deal (10/100) and to have his annointment as a team savior. Chicago reportedly called unofficially and quickly backed away once they heard the terms. LV did the same. Minnesota brought him in for an interview, but Harbaugh was expecting a royal wedding and didn't want to have to compete like a lowly HC candidate. It seemed like there was a handful of coaches interviewing everywhere. First via zoom and then in-person all while coordinating the teams in the playoffs. Couple that with 4 of the openings also conducting GM interviews simultaneously and most teams desires to get a GM before a HC hired, that further dragged things out as the top options for HC (not Jax or Houston) had to play out. Jacksonville is just a mess and the whole ordeal with Leftwich reportedly making his demand to not work with Baalke as GM known, you'd think that would have came out sooner before he became a finalist. Then add in the late entry by New Orleans into the mix as Payton stepped away. I think most of the teams did pretty well in their search and can't find too much fault in them. LV took the biggest shot with McDaniels in a boom or bust move. Houston is just wow. I'm shocked that McCown was even considered with zero coordinator experience. It all seemed to line up for Flores and that would have been a good hire for them. I honestly don't hate the Lovie move as it fits with what they are doing: short term deal to kick the can, figure out the Watson ordeal and then get a better vector of where you are going as a team in a few years when Lovie is probably looking to retire. If they do love McCown, try him out at OC. Not going to hurt anything with that team and position him as a possible HC who is familiar/earned the teams respect before taking over. Outside of that, New Orleans probably has the biggest head scratcher with Allen. Perhaps they are doing the same thing as Houston. Kick the can with something familiar while you wait what Payton chooses in a year or two and reset your cap/rebuild. I'm looking forward to following how some of these moves play out. Is Daboll going to have offensive success without Josh Allen in NY? Can the Bears surround Justin Fields with talent and open things up? Can McDaniel bring over that SF flair to the running game in Miami? Can LV take that next step and really compete in the AFC?
  3. I went to a couple Pro Bowls when I lived in Hawaii and I'm glad I got the tickets for free everytime. Outside of seeing the stars in person all on the same field, it quickly turns into a joke like it does every year. Honestly, those that were going to the game at Aloha Stadium cared far more about the tailgating situation than anything else and the stadium was probably half empty by half time as they made their way back to the grills and coolers. The best part of Pro Bowl week is easily the events that lead up to the game. Players would visit local schools, host special activities, be seen out downtown or enjoying local outdoor activities. It was nice to see them actually be tourists with their friends and families and it made them more relatable. Hard to see the players living life the same way at any other location outside of Hawaii.
  4. Interesting choice without knowing what Rodgers and Adams will do. Does he want to work with Love or Fields?
  5. I'm targeting 59 which puts me at 30 years of federal service and both kids done with high school. I like what I do, so it's not really hard to imagine doing it longer if I want to.
  6. Report that Getsy has been offered Bears OC position. Interesting. Development.
  7. I suggest you petition your league commissioner to NOT have a Week 18 Championship. Oof! Ill second this. I had the championship the last week of the season one time and it was a disaster. I'm all for depth on a roster, but to have quite a few of your studs on the bench because they are resting up for playoffs doesn't sit right when determining a champion. Ours is week 17 now and feels a lot better and created much better matchups.
  8. I doubt schools will require players to play in a bowl game. They get their money just for being selected and not winning the game. It's also a chance to get a look at the next players up against some quality competition risk free. If they lose, oh well. If they win, oh well. NOW if players opt out of playing in the playoff, then you would see more noise and changes.
  9. RB is basically a pick em. I'd lean towards Mixon. WR is probably Samuel with the added carries and a good chance Russ leaves Seattle this year.
  10. It should absolutely be a written rule that those not in playoffs should not be making moves. My dynasty league also has a rule that any transactions made after cutoff date (week before playoffs) are ineligible to be kept. So if someone dropped Thielen in this instance, he would be a free agent in next year's draft (rookies and FA eligible).
  11. The U was the first landing spot that came to mind, but I don't know their current coaching situation either. Miami is off the table. They just poached Mario Cristobal from Oregon (local boy) for big money, spent big money to buy out Manny Diaz and brought over Clemson's AD. They made a big investment and I highly doubt they would throw all of that away to bring in Meyer. Now Florida State is kind of reeling and losing out on the top recruit in the nation to Jackson State is a huge black eye. Coupled with their lackluster performance on the field, they could go hail Mary coaching hire.
  12. That is pretty bad. During my first time living in the South, I caught myself drawing out words and not even realizing it. But Kelly has been there one day and is using it to play up for the crowd, wow.
  13. I would say it depends on the factors of the person. If the goal is to head to the NFL, then yes it probably makes more sense to stay at OU until you jump this year or next depending on what potential jobs interest you. If the plan is to not go to the NFL in the next 3-5 years, then taking over and restoring a USC program has a lot of appeal: better weather, better recruiting, live that Hollywood lifestyle if that is what you want. We also don't know what matters to Riley. It's entirely possible he just doesn't care for Norman or Oklahoma. Maybe he wants to recruit closer to home and travel less. Maybe he is setting himself up to take over as the host of Jeopardy. If it was my choice, easy one to head to USC.
  14. I think the timing is because of the early signing period for recruiting. If you wait it out at OU, you sign the recruits for a team you're not going to coach and there is no direction at USC to sign that class with an unknown HC. If you get to USC now, you have all the hype in the media and can make a push to bring over some of your top recruits with you to bolster the current recruits and likely improve that quickly. I would guess Nelson (QB) follows him and probably some RB and WRs too. I can see the appeal of the USC job and getting an established college coach should do wonders for returning them to a top power quickly (unfortunately).
  15. The thing that gets me is that they overlook the negative association to carp and the nuisance these geese add. They aren't called sky carp because they hang out all winter, they are associated with carp because they are unwanted and create an annoying mess with their droppings. Then toss in the closeness to the word crap and it all adds up to a big miss. I'm very convinced this name was selected before any "competition" and the other 4 finalists were selected because it makes Sky Carp not seem so bad.
  16. It's a non-migratory Canadian Goose. I had to look it up because I had never heard that phrase in my life. It's not even clever which is the sad part. At least with trash pandas they have some similar coloring and stuff.
  17. So the Beloit Snappers have officially rebranded to the Beloit Sky Carp. I assumed this was going to be the name when the "finalists" were announced, but color me underwhelmed immensely. I keep hearing the comparison to Rocket City Trash Pandas, but completely different scenarios. Rocket City moved from Mobile back to Huntsville after the Stars left for Biloxi. Rabid fan base looking to get their baseball back, fun nickname that many knew without explanation and excellent fan engagement. Beloit's rebrand is none of those and I wish them the best of luck. Anyone hear ever heard the Sky Carp nickname prior to being considered by Beloit?
  18. I fully agree that you shouldn't be able to play for a title if you don't win your own conference championship. Why not go with just conference champions? SEC, Big 10, ACC, PAC 12, Big 12, AAC, Mountain West, Sun Belt/Conference USA/MAC? The main driver that I like about putting the playoff appearance on conference championships is that it opens up better non-conference matchups. As it is now, very few teams want to schedule ranked opponents early since one loss can submarine your chances. If all that matters to get to the playoff is to win your conference, non-conference losses don't matter.
  19. I don't want to see the playoff expanded for the same reasons that nodak mentioned, all it's really going to do is justify putting more SEC teams into the mix. I can't tell you how many times I hear stuff like a 2 loss SEC school is more deserving than an undefeated or 1-loss non-SEC team. Just look at biases in rankings amongst SEC schools and it's not a reach to assume over half of an 8 team playoff will be SEC schools. Whenever you rely on subjectivity and rankings, it's likely to occur. I'm still on board with 4 super conferences and eliminate all subjectivity.
  20. No one knows why they didn't fine him and it is hypocritical, but that won't stop them from doing it. Looking into the NFL policy, it appears they put the enforcement on the teams for daily compliance. It's pretty weak, but they can always shift the blame to the team for lack of compliance. No team has lost a pick this year (that I'm aware of) because I don't think there are any teams with mass violations since most of the league is vaccinated. New Orleans and Las Vegas last year had multiple violations throughout the year hence the loss of a pick and a big fine. I don't see a way GB gets away without something coming down for the team and Rodgers individually. I doubt they lose a pick though, but nothing will shock me at this point.
  21. The NFL has known his status this entire time. They could have disciplined him all this time. Doing something now would make no sense and be pretty pathetic on their part. Not fining him would look far worse. They have fined other players for violating the mask requirement for unvaccinated players. Letting the reigning MVP go unchecked and get special treatment is a terrible look that far exceeds their initial inaction. Add in the lack of remorse at any level (breaking rules...not for deciding to not disclosing his status), it all adds up to more than a simple fine. I would bet he gets a bigger fine than the normal $14,650, the Packers get a big fine and lose a 6th round pick similar to New Orleans last year.
  22. He doesn't have to get vaccinated. He does have to follow the rules for those whom are unvaccinated, which he blatantly ignored.
  23. The thing that bothers me is him not following rules he didn't like. Keeping his status personal, sure. Coming out and saying I'm not following NFL protocol and rules because I don't think masking is based in science is unacceptable. I don't care who you are, rules are rules whether you like them or not. And then when you consider that the Packers and the NFL let him get away with avoiding the protocols is also unacceptable. I'm curious how this unfolds because the NFL needs to provide some form of discipline, but they also need discipline put on themselves.
  24. This is way overdue. I knew quite a few people who would house players in Beloit for free. I also knew a bunch who would share an apartment to cut down on costs, but you're talking like 6+ in a 2 bedroom apartment. I can't confirm, but I'm pretty sure the team had a deal worked out with the complex knowing it's short term and players often come and go at a moments notice.
  25. I went into Monday night 60 points down, but had Lamar, Andrews, Taylor and Tucker. Woke up to the second highest score this year I the league and over a 100 point win
