  1. Colon beat the batter to first. The throw was hard, high, and off target. Also, loved that they had a mound meeting after to let him catch his breath
  2. That run is completely on Braun. He could've easily caught that double but didn't even run for it
  3. Speaking of Nolan Ryan, if pitchers during his tenure were held accountable for throwing at batters how many games would/should he have been suspended during his career? For his career he averaged 1 HBP per every 34 IP. MLB Average this season: 1 in every 27 IP.
  4. BARTOLO!!!! http://mlb.mlb.com/images/3/4/2/72690342/041914_colon_swings_2_27g6inde.gif http://cdn2.vox-cdn.com/imported_assets/2177643/AgrItCt.gif
  5. Yes, and so is "you lost your temper and hit me with a pitch...my feelings were hurt, now I will physically assault you" I just want to be sure that I understand your entire argument. It's perfectly fine for pitchers to bean whomever they want, whenever they want, and when they do they should get 1 game suspensions. However, any retaliation by a batter deserves a much larger suspension.
  6. +1 And Wily Peralta won't complain. this isn't the MILB phantom injuries. An MLB player is supposed to have an injury. It's supposed to be legit. And why won't he complain? Because being on the DL is better than being in AA?
  7. Wish he had been back sooner, given that the White Sox are absorbing roughly what Garza is owed in salary to take Shields. It's June now, trade market for starters is going to heat up. Hopefully Garza can start heating up as well. Shields is a much, much better pitcher than Garza, with much better recent performance and San Diego got little back even after eating over half his remaining salary. How is a month of average Garza going to parlay into anything but minor salary relief assuming any interest at all? Teams won't be convinced after 5 or 6 mediocre starts (and is anybody expecting better than that?) I'm guessing the Brewers will be stuck with Garza the rest of the year, and hope he strings together enough decent starts to have a market this winter. Even that's fairly remote, but worst case is they eat one year. 2014, 2015 FIP: Garza: 3.54, 4.94 Shields: 3.45, 4.45 (and 4.42 in 2016) Shields was good 2 seasons ago, same as Garza.
  8. It's not too tough to create a hotspot using your phone, if that's the route you wanted to go. You could also discuss this with your provider (eg, if you're considering changing services) most will let you test out if you can get a signal and you may also be able to convince them to give you (or discount you) an actual mobile hotspot, such as this: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2423113,00.asp
  9. So, you think if you ask Canseco why he took steroids, he will answer that he took it to recover from injuries quicker?. No, he would tell you that he took them to hit more HRs (along with McGwire, Sosa, and others during that period - although those guys are still in denial) and it worked. A few people are getting caught now and you are assuming that everyone is still taking them. Maybe you are right and I'll admit that the PEDs of today may be a little different than the PEDs from that era...maybe they are more about avoiding injuires now, I don't know. However, during that time they were clearly used to bulk up and gain strength (by allowing them to increase their workout regiment). You can honestly look at these pictures and tell me you don't think PEDs helped these guys with their power? I'm assuming you also think the moon landings were a hoax. Maybe as the stigma of being big and playing baseball wore off (for a long time it was believed you couldn't lift & play baseball at the same time) guys got bigger. Guys got bigger when they went from 24 to 34. I believe in the scientific method as opposed to conjecture, media outrage, and random data points being spouted off as proof. In 1993/1994, the entire leagues ISO jumped. Massively. Either everyone started using steroids during that year at the exact same time, or something else changed. http://steroids-and-baseball.com/ Extraordinary players do extraordinary things over the course of time. Sometimes their careers overlap. Before 1960, there were 3 members of the 500 home run club. Suddenly, in the next 11 years that number grew to 11. Clearly, steroids.
  10. Roger Maris only hit 50 HRs once in his career. Andre Dawson only hit 40 once in his career (and hit 49 that year, never more than 32 other than that). Clearly, they started doing steroids that year. It's nice you think that PEDs are the evil horrible thing that caused it, but when offense jumps massively across baseball and ISO increases overnight, it wasn't PEDs that did it. Then, suddenly, magically, offense goes back to "Pre-PED" era overnight, while guys are still getting caught.... yeah, was PEDs, no doubt about it.
  11. Because guys never develop more power as they age.... http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/molitpa01-bat.shtml Highest ISO seasons at ages: 30, 33, 36, 37, 34, 38 http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/a/aaronha01-bat.shtml Highest ISO seasons at ages: 39, 37, 35 PEDs keep guys healthy, allow them to play more games.
  12. I think it's time for a grilling/cooking/smoking thread so this stuff doesn't get lost

  14. I just wanted to quote this and get completely off topic, but it started with Yost, and his complete inability to handle LaRussa messing with his head.... to the point that he ordered a Turnbow leadoff bean-ball in a 2 run game while in a playoff race. Macha didn't lose the clubhouse because of LaRussa, he lost the clubhouse because his GM and Owner didn't back him when he tried to bench Braun for a game for not hustling in the field and/or running a ball out to first base (I forget which). Braun threw a hissy fit both in the clubhouse and up to management and they called Macha in and overruled him.
  15. I remember distinctly listening to Jim Powell's reports circa 2005 and loving every one of them for just that reason
  16. If you don't think players can develop faster when basketball is their full time job and they have access to professional coaches who can work with them on incredibly specific things, professional nutritionists and older pro players to gleam wisdom off of.... well... I'm surprised. Game-time minutes are the absolutely last thing players need to develop. #1 is motivation. #2 is time in the gym with a coach.
  17. You can get a bluetooth hookup that will broadcast over an FM station to your car and plug into the cigarette lighter for about $25 on Amazon. It's what I use on my car.
  18. At the game tonight. Feels like the Brewers should be up 5, not 1.
  19. Yes! Because it was during the 05' season when Braun was in town after signing his contract. I know it was around this board. That is where I first seen it. I used to have it saved but can't find it anywhere. https://web.archive.org/web/20050628012311/http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brew/jun05/336680.asp I wish I could be more help. The picture is mentioned in that article.
  20. I know the one you mean, and I'm pretty sure it was the same day as when Prince & Rickie hit their first career HRs.
  21. All I heard him say was an "F-You". Did he go beyond that? Rondo used homophobic slurs to belittle a ref.
  22. The Nats are actually being hosed in their TV deal, because the local TV network is owned by the..... Baltimore Orioles. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs/new-york-court-hands-orioles-early-victory-in-masn-dispute/
  23. Aaron Hill has raised his OPS 300 points in 11 games. Up to .740 now!
