  1. Although I am happy to see the Brewers succeed of late, with every win my frustration also builds that this team took themselves out of contention early in the season, mostly because of poor performances by the bullpen. Right now we could be witnessing an epic late season run to the playoffs, as nobody else in the Wildcard chase has been particularly impressive of late. Since the starting rotation will be a joke in a few weeks, I will be surprised if they can even go .500 the rest of the way, much less get to .500.
  2. Wow, Hart just plain dropped it. Hope that doesn't cost us the game.
  3. Narron has done an incredible job as hitting coach this year...or at least the results suggest that he has.
  4. Well, the 2011 Cardinals had a 1.1% chance at the playoffs on August 27, 2011. The 2012 Brewers have a 0.2% chance. Unfortunately, those Cardinals were 69-64.
  5. I think he finally realized that the evidence against him was overwhelming and it wasn't worth fighting the losing battle anymore. There's no "smoking gun" but with the number of first-hand accusations I can't possibly believe that he never doped, especially since virtually every other champion has done it in that sport. It's basically an admission of guilt that he won't continue...he knew the titles would be stripped either way so he gave it up. In the highly unlikely event that Armstrong is innocent, he earned his fate anyway because of his personality--all those bridges that he burned came back on him.
  6. Happy Birthday Randy...as a present from the Brewers, you no longer have to embarrass yourself on the mound anymore.
  7. Nice inning, I hope the bullpen doesn't turn this into one of those old school Brewers/Cubs games.
  8. The Brewers need to hire some new meteorological consultants, it isn't going to rain tonight.
  9. IIRC, the roof openings and closing need to be monitored by staff up on the track beam. So they probably had to hurry up there before they pressed the button. Or maybe based on that new policy from earlier in the year, they thought it would only be a light shower and wanted to leave the roof open. Either way, I'm sure they will be more cautious again now.
  10. It was nice to have Randy in a Brewers' uniform, he was an important part of the 96-win team in 2011 with those 212 IP. Unfortunately, he has no choice but to play out the season and the Brewers are unlikely to cut him.
  11. BA couldn't tell whether it was gone or not either. I thought it was caught initially.
  12. Lots of interesting angles to this story with how it relates to the Braun situation. Now that we have an MLB all-star left fielder admitting to taking to testosterone, what does that say about another MLB all-star left fielder that also tested positive for testosterone but was acquitted? Not saying that this increases the chance that Braun knowingly took PEDs, but it is conclusive proof that PED use is still occurring (and not just by replacement players or Manny Ramirez). I'm sure this will only increase the Giants fans' dislike of the Brewers.
  13. Unfortunately, this team is incapable of beating quality competition. Although that Astros series was still fun anyway.
  14. The Safe House isn't too far from there. Although you go there more for the experience than the food. Also might not be date appropriate, depends if your date likes spy-themed stuff or not. There is plenty of garage parking available in that area for a reasonable rate in the evenings.
  15. There are too many positives about this team to blow it up. The offense is great despite what the road OPS is--remember, everyone else in the division gets 5 series against the Brewers' pitching staff. Ramirez has been amazing, it is a shame that his season is going to waste. If we're going to buy low and sell high, then I think we should bring Nyjer Morgan back. He is as good of a 4th/5th outfielder as we will find for the price. Hart is a tough call, but it really depends on what we can get for him. All the other GMs can see the declining OBP and speed as well and nobody likes to part with prospects these days. My guess is he will return without an extension. As for the pitching staff, I would much rather take a risk on young guys than the old veterans. If Melvin does spend money, it should be on the bullpen. I find it hard to believe that only Axford will return, there are still 2 months for some of the other guys out there to turn it around. The biggest concern going forward is how to keep the fan interest alive for 2013-2014. The Brewers remain in a period of high popularity and need to avoid the downward spiral that can plague a mid-market team after a period of success, where more losing leads to less revenue which leads to even more losing. I'm skeptical that the prospects gained by trading Hart/others would offset the damage done to fan interest and attendance in 2013-2014. Melvin/Mark A. prefer the middle ground, they will sell when the price is right, but otherwise they tend to hold onto players that have a track record of success.
  16. We were in 418 (my father still has season tickets there) so you were probably one section over. Usually I announce when I'm going but I was doing stuff all day and got to the game late. Will be back for a wedding in Sept 2013 so hopefully the Brewers will be in town that weekend.
  17. Morgan's idiotic play last night is rewarded with a start the next day???
  18. My wife and I both thought this movie was terrible. Besides the acting, the plot was all over the place (how long were they hanging out in fairy land with the dwarfs?). And then there was Kristen Stewart leading soldiers into battle...not working. I would be interested to know more specifically what was good about this movie, because there were other people that liked it also. It is clearly one that you either really like or hate.
  19. That was my one and only Brewers game at Miller Park this year. It was nice to see a win, even if the game wasn't close. Will catch the Crew again next month in Miami.
