    Now down to five Maybe's with the trade to acquire Canha. No triple A pitchers (anymore), two AAA hitters is correct, one AA hitter, then I have two in A+. The high A guys are highly unlikely to be picked but I'm very high on them.

    Don't want to have any article spoilers, but I have 1 player we must protect and 6 maybes on my short list. However, we should have plenty of 40 man roster space to protect the key players.

    Not quite sure I would pencil in Monasterio as a starter for the rest of the season. He's been great so far, but its just been 115 PA and he has a 400 BAbip. There is a good chance he will regress.

    This might be it for the signings, but I'm still thrilled to get these two HS. Note that the Brewers rarely go over cap even though the cash penalty is modest up to 5% overage. They had just under $700k left to spend so that could very easily be used up by these two. Here's hoping we do get one more. Bjorn Johnson maybe?

    That is impressive. Do we think he is due for a promotion? 3b is about to get very crowded. Wilkens indicated he was headed for Wisconsin after a stay in Arizona. Boeve and maybe Bitonti also figure into the 3b picture.

    That does make sense. If this is a personal issue (and lets not speculate beyond that), then it would make sense why reporters are not discussing it. If it was a baseball related injury, he would be on the major league IL. In any event, it does not sound like he is close to returning and likely wont be an option in any trades. That's too bad. Hope for a speedy return.

    Do we know what is up with Eric Lauer? He has not pitched since 6/11 after two poor starts with AAA. I thought maybe they have him in the pitching lab to try to get him straight. He's listed as on the "Temporary Inactive List" on the Sounds website so maybe, though I think they normally would have the player on the "development list". It would be nice to get him back for the playoff run as a depth reliever or spot starter. Rather that then they trade a prospect again for a Dan Norris type pitcher

    I'd add Urias to this list. He has a 860 OPS in July, starting to show some pop as well. I'd consider giving Jahmai Jones a trial as a DH. The Brewers have not given him much of a shot when he has been up with the club. I think he is unlikely to break out but worth a try. Toro has been really crushing the ball in the last month. He's deserves a callup to play 1B. We need Own Miller's bat out of the lineup. He is dangerously close to finishing July with an OPS under .500 for the month. There is plenty of room for these players. Perkins has done nothing with the bat this month and should be optioned. Owen Miller has an Option as well. Winker can be released. Not sure what to do with Ty Taylor. Out of options; It would be a shame to see his Brewers career end via a DFA. I cannot imagine he would be tendered this offseason though as he is now arby eligible. We just dont need a glove first bOF right now with Weimer, Frelick, and Yelli

    I dont see the concern about losing him. If we call him up and he stinks, then waive him. There was little chance the Brewers were going to tender him a contract next year. What's the risk? At least this would show if he could still hit or not.

    Except for the 2020 season, where we signed all five picks, we have not signed our entire draft class. Remember, these drafts used to be 40-50 players in total. That would have been a lot of picks. I dont know how Cleveland does it, but its working for them.

    I'd have no problem if the values were based on pre-season rankings (though Medina has not been a prospect in 2 years). However, when you go to the trade simulator page it brings up a banner saying All values have been updated to represent the 60% mark on the season. That just doesn't seem to be the case. Owen Miller was acquired via cash so hard to believe he was worth 14,3 value and should not be considered that now (maybe in May you could say that). I used to use this site as a double-check to see if a trade seems fair but it does not seem reliable anymore.

    Thanks for the link. Interesting read. Would have been cool if they published the expected WAR for each pick, though I can see why they didn't want to post that for free. I think the Brewers benefit by picking lower in the draft during those years (16 on average). The window they selected is too recent and doesn't give enough time to build up WAR. Missing on high picks will be penalized greater than lower picks. Otherwise, this is probably the best way to evaluate drafting by trying to eliminate the effects of draft order.

    I think it will cost more to acquire both Grichuk and Cron. Keston probably has negative value right now. He's just a throw in change of scenery guy. Mejia has little value and is likely seen as AAAA relief. Strzlecki has talent but he is struggling in AAA. His value is at its lowest at this point. Barrios is hitting 600 OPS at low A. He has promise but generally lotto tickets need to be doing well to be traded. I could see Colorado having an interest in Huira so we can keep him, but I think you would need to swap in Guilarte/Moore/O'Rae. And probably looking at Jarvis as the pitcher (or Woessner/Jimenez type). This still might be light.

    This is an impressive effort. I fully know how long this must have taken to do. About a year ago I wrote a four part blog post on the Brewers past 20 drafts. My approach was similar in using WAR as the evaluation metric (among other subjective methods). It goes to show how amazing those early 2000 drafts were. There is a direct correlation between draft success and winning. Hard to believe Pittsburgh was unable to draft one player of value in those years.

    I thought I'd check Baseball Trade Values to see what we would have to give up for Thomas. I was encouraged when I saw the website states they just updated their trade values. But, if they did, they did not do it well... They have Thomas with a value of 16.8. A fair trade according to the website is Tyler Black (7.8), Luis Lara (7.8), and Logan Henderson (1.2). Umm, no thank you. They have Owen Miller with a 14.3 value and Luis Medina with a 8.1 value. I think they need some new staff. Who would you give up for Thomas or Conor Joe. I could see Lara, though not sure I would want to do that. Really don't want to give up Black.

    FWIW, the Brewers don't normally go above their pool. I'm not sure when the last time they did, so it would be unusual if they do this year. I thought for sure they would have to in order to sign Pratt and Bitonti, but obviously not. So without the overage amount, they currently have $850k to sign 7-10 and the 11-20 players. If you assume $200k-$300k for the 7-10 picks, that leaves $550-$650k for the rest. That's still quite a bit. Historically, the HS we have picked in this range were given a few hundred thousand to $0.5M (Caden Vire). So, signing two more HS players is completely reasonable. Very exciting draft!

    These are good options, but not ideal. Turner would be my choice just not sure the Brewers can afford that salary. We may have to send more prospects if Bos eats salary. The other two would surely be an upgrade in our lineup this year. However, they are also long term assets and its unlikely we need outfielders long term with Mitchell, Frelick, and Chourio available next year. It would be better if these two were rentals. Longer term, I see Joe and Thomas as bench bats as well. They would start this year, just not real confident they are starters in a few years. Not sure what they would cost us but its going to be more than their value to us this year.

    Agree. Its odd. If Pratt could be signed for 1.35M, why did he fall to the 6th round? I was hoping it would not take more than 2M to sign him.

    Keston is even crushing LH in AAA (1062 OPS). Its time to give him another shot

    None of these options are all that exciting and we would have to give up talent to get them. Just call up Hiura and lets see what he can do. If not, try Toro and then Black. I feel that is the best option we have.

    Its been $125k the last few years, so its an increase of $25k this year. But you ae right, $150k is a lot of money. It would not be surprising for a high schooler to accept $150k as the bonus (and no hit to the Brewers bonus pool). Kay-Lan Nicasio signed for $125k out of high school in 2021.
