  1. Seems like they intend to compete this year with this move. If they wanted to tear it all down and rebuild, they would have gone with a younger manager.
  2. The Brewers still have until tomorrow to add players to the 40 man roster. Its highly unlikely but still possible they could add another prospect. More likely is the Brewers capitalize on their open spots and swing a trade for a player who needs to be protected from a team in a roster crunch. The Brewers may be leaving these spots open to see what trades they can swing.
  3. Players need to be added to the 40 man roster by next Tuesday to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. Quero is still a lock, but I don't see anyone else that needs to be protected. I'm still thinking Devanney has a chance as well as Blalock. The Brewers have an unprecedented 6 open spots on the 40 man and that could increase if they make some non-tenders (Woodruff, Toro, Tellez), so there is no risk to add these guys. Devanney has a really good chance of being called up next year to fill a utility role. Blalock is likely to move quickly through the system. So, they will be a tough call for management. The rest of the players I had been considering over the summer, all pretty much slumped or stayed level and I think they are unlikely to be protected. Isaac Collins being an exception but he only got a brief callup to AAA. He needs to perform in AAA before I would consider him. A 25 year old doing well in AA is not all that special that he needs to be protected.
  4. Outstanding that Ernesto is coming back. I was really hoping we would get another year to see what he can do at the upper levels.
  5. The Brewers have a top 5 minor league system. They had an excellent draft last year, many of who could be in the top 100 prospect lists which should keep the minor league system stocked for years to come. They have a slew of ML ready hitters just waiting to break out. They have an excellent bullpen and the organization pitching lab that seems to keep churning out good pitchers. There is a lot to be positive about this organization. The Counsell thing has gotten us all down, but dont let that skew your outlook. We have plenty to be excited about. The offseason is just starting. Let's see what the 2024 team will look like.
  6. If all we are getting is a lottery ticket for Perkins (which I think is his value), then why trade him. He has options, just send him to AAA.
  7. Donovan Solano would be an interesting signing. Similar to Canha in hitting style but can play 1B/2B/3B - all three positions where we need depth. Only made $2M for the twins last year. Likely to be more expensive this offseason but no where near the $11.5M Canha would have cost us. Does not help in the power dept, but for the price, he would help this offense
  8. I had forgot Jarvis was who we traded for Canha. His AAA numbers this year were awful. In 12 Gs he had a 8.79 ERA. I wonder who will have the better career. Holub or Jarvis. Neither are top prospects but it seems likelier at this point that Holub could at least be a useful reliever in the majors. Its too early to judge this trade since we dont know what the Brewers will do with the money saved. Just because the Brewers didn't think Canha was worth 11.5M doesn't mean they plan to rebuild.
  9. At his age and injury history, I doubt Miley gets a multi-year contract. But he has made over $50M in his career so he has done all right for himself. Hard to believe he will get much more than the $10M his option was worth so I actually thought there was a chance the mutual option could have been agreed upon. Still a chance for him to return.
  10. I wouldn't say overshadowed. He was great player on a team of hall of famers so I can see why you suggest it. However, the fans loved him. Every time he came up to bat, the stadium was filled with the sound of Coooop! To the uninitiated it sounded like Booo but it was quite the complement. You briefly mentioned his defense but I think that needs to be expanded upon. He was one of the better defensive 1B in the game. He had excellent range and didn't make many errors. He had a unique ability to stretch for the ball to give the defense a little bit of an edge. He would do a complete splits to just to get to the ball a little bit quicker to get the runner out. He was really a memorable player and an easy guy to root for.
  11. Not sure why the Brewers have to trade an OF. While it is smart to trade from your strengths, this year should have showed us all why you cannot have too much depth. Weimer, Perkins, and Tapia basically gave us ABs of a full time OF at relatively poor production. Injuries to Taylor, Mitchell, and Frelick quickly depleted the depth we had. Yelich would need to move from LF, but I could easily see a Mitchell, Chourio, Frelick OF on opening day. Yelly will need to move soon anyways, so I wont be shocked seeing him in 1B/DH/LF next year. That leaves Taylor as a backup OF and Weimer/Perkins as depth in AAA. If the Brewers are considering this, we will start to hear some rumblings about Yelich buying a new 1B glove in the coming months.
  12. With the recent offseason releases and free agents, including Miley declining his option, the 40-man roster is currently at 34. Ashby is still technically on the 60-day DL, but he will have to be added back shortly (I think tomorrow), so the roster will grow to 35. JC Mejia is on the restricted list due to his 162 game suspension given last Sept 20th. He will not count against the 40 man roster during his suspension. The Brewers will need to tender/non-tender him this offseason, though not sure of the downside of tendering him a contract since he does not get paid during this time. Since this is his 2nd suspension, they may decide to non-tender him. Other possible non-tender decisions are Woodruff, Toro, and Tellez. I think the other arby eligible players are likely to be kept (complete arby eligible list is below per MLBTR): Brandon Woodruff (5.161): $11.6MM Willy Adames (5.105): $12.4MM Corbin Burnes (5.049): $15.1MM Adrian Houser (5.010): $5.6MM Rowdy Tellez (5.004): $5.9MM Hoby Milner (4.068): $1.7MM Devin Williams (4.056): $6.5MM Tyrone Taylor (3.093): $1.7MM Bryse Wilson (3.036): $1.3MM Joel Payamps (3.027): $1.7MM Abraham Toro (3.011): $1.3MM The Brewers also need to decide on Mark Canha's team option.
  13. I expect the Brewers to be very aggressive in claiming players this year. After adding Quero, I can easily see the Brewers will have 8 open 40 man spots after non-tender decisions are done. They have plenty of open spots. Wouldn't surprise me if they claim anyone/everyone who's name crosses Arnold's desk. He can then just cycle players through these 8-9 spots to keep the best of the group and sneak who he can through to the minors. Its a nice situation for the Brewers to be in. Capra has some good minor league numbers. Not much different than Owen Miller, Devanney, Toro, Dorrian. Good chance he could hang around until next spring and be a depth option next year.
  14. Santana is not a sexy addition to the 2024 but is useful and depending upon the other adds they make, may be a good choice. He is solid and stabilizing guy. That being said, there is very little upside. If the Brewers are going to make a big run next year, they need to make a significant trade for a hitter or roll the dice on the upside with Black and Chourio. I dont see them going after any big name free agents. If I had to decide today, they take the option on Canha and insert him as DH/1b and move Yelich to 1b/DH/LF. Then go with Chourio and Black in CF and 3b, respectively from day 1. If they dont succeed right away they can send them to AAA. They can sign a few minor league free agents as insurance if Black/Chourio dont pan out right away. They need some luck to do well next year, and Black/Chourio are their best shot at it. Santana is not a needle mover. He's just a safe choice and I'd rather go for it and if doesnt pan out, do a soft rebuild and compete in 2025.
  15. There actually is a Wikipedia page listing the bewers 40 man roster with links to each player. The amount of detail varies. I have not used it much, but now that I looked at it again. It has some of what you are suggesting. I'd prefer info on the minor leaguers as that info is harder to come by. The big thing for me is what types of pitches do our prospects throw and how hard. That can sometimes be found in our forums but it's hard to easily find that info. Maybe quick links to online prospect evals would be nice. A wiki that can be maintained by our whole community is the only way this can be done. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Milwaukee_Brewers
  16. Is this for MLB players or MiLB players (prospects)? I think a prospect Wiki would make more sense since there is less info known about them. I had pitched a "adopt a prospect" thread many years ago but there was no interest in it at the time. I think it would be useful to have one location where specific info on the player could be posted by users. The types of pitches a pitcher throws, how hard, defensive capability, recent performance, etc. Sort of a one stop shop for that prospect. So yes, I would be onboard with this.
  17. Nice writeup! Love the details and history on each player. If i had to nitpick, I would choose Will Rudy over Jarvis. He had a under the radar season with a 3.46 ERA and 1.289 WHIP. A touch on the older side for the league so need to factor that in.
  18. This just sounds like GM speak to me. ... I may trade him but I don't want to announce that I will because that will lower his value.
  19. I think it is difficult to judge who was the Top rookie. You could make a case for almost any of these guys, particularly when Top rookie is so subjective. Do you look at best offense, best overall performance, most impactful, etc. The best metric we have is maybe WAR, as flawed as it is. Per BRef, the list would be Turang (1.6), Monasterio (1.3), Frelick/Perkins (1.2), Uribe (1.0), Wiemer (0.9). I would disagree with that but all of these are real close and likely within the margin of error. I would rank them by most impactful as follows: Uribe, Frelick, Monasterio, Turang, Perkins, Weimer.
  20. With the season ending, time to look forward to the offseason. Two key dates: November 14 (6pm Est) - Reserve lists for all Major league and Minor leagues levels are filed (in prep for Rule 5 draft) December 6th - Rule 5 draft is held in Nashville, TN With Quero the only obvious guy that needs to be protected, let the speculation fly. The Brewers have plenty of open 40 man roster spots open, so the only question is how many borderline guys they will protect.
  21. I'd put Wiemer on the 10 day IL due to a dislocated swing.
