  1. FWIW, the Callup podcast just ranked Black as the 7th best 3b prospect. Wilkens was just outside the top 10, Nice problem for the Brewers to have. Really excited to see what Black can do next year. Worthwhile listen if your interested:
  2. I'm also having very slow load times the past week or so. 20 seconds typical. I almost did not post in this thread cause it was taking too long. Ohh the irony. All seriously, it has been very noticeable. I'm in the Milwaukee area.
  3. Should note that Jorge Lopez was an all star in 2022 making it 5 all star nods from this group. Jorge was fantastic in 2022 and it looked like he turned his career until it came crashing back down again this year.
  4. MLB.com has slotted Crow in as their 25th top prospect. Seems like Arnold could have at least gotten a lottery ticket out of that trade in addition to Crow. I think people are over rating him. The writeup for Crow is a ceiling as a backend starter. Not finding many who would evaluate him as a potential mid rotation guy; not with his fastball. I also don't buy that they needed to do this to clear 40 man roster space. Yes, they were full, but they have a number of guys who could be let go due to ineffectiveness last year or out of options and no clear role in 2024. Hard to believe Houser/Taylor were less important than Andrews, Bukauskas, J. Jones, Junk, Viera.
  5. I imagine that $700M was just slightly out of reach for the Brewers. Too bad. If I only had attended a few more games last year...
  6. surprised they did not pick up any catchers in the minor league phase. Brewers have a dearth of C depth right now. Guess they will be going out to get this years Crash Davis to fill the minor league rosters.
  7. Agreed on Knoth. He should move fast. I also agree with Yoho, especially with reports that he will move fast. This article says he could make the majors in 2024. I would not be surprised if he is placed at Wisconsin to start the season.
  8. Its hard to compare any of these to the meteoric rise of Chourio, but I'll play along. Yophery might be the only one who would be close. There is a chance he gets the Lara treatment and starts in low A next year. The rest don't have the prospect pedigree to be pushed by the Brewers like they did with Chourio/Lara. Even Pratt did not get promoted out of Arizona even though he played really well.
  9. The Rule 5 draft is Wednesday. The Brewers selected Gus Varland last year but ended up sending him back to the Dodgers. Will they dip into the Draft again this year? The Brewers have 5 open spots on the 40 man roster so little concern with that. Who may be picked from the Brewers organization? Reference: I could not find a complete list of all available players (it would be a large list), but this lists the top players who are available, and this provides a writeup of one player from each team. I think its unlikely the Brewers will pick anyone in the draft. They like roster flexibility and the ability to option guys to the minors. But they did select someone last year and the cost is low to take a shot. My thought is a reliever or an infielder could be targeted. My choices (in order) would be 3b/1b Deyvison De Los Santos, 1b/OF Carlos De La Cruz, RHP Matt Sauer, Power pitcher Tyler Owens, or 3b/2b Aaron Schunk. A 3b/1b would make a lot of sense since that is the biggest hole right now and you can always use more pitching. As for any losses, I'm guessing we wont lose anyone in the draft (at least the major league portion). What are your thoughts?
  10. Since there was no writeup on Merkel and Brady, what do we think of them as prospects? Both were UDFA in 2022. Merkel is a towering 6-7, 255lbs. I know very little of both other than they had nice years last year.
  11. Jordan was released last August and Karlos Morales is a free agent so no longer in the org. But, Merkel and Brady should be on this list. That being said, I'm really excited to see Biloxi's bullpen next year. I could see S. Smith, Shears, Brady, Merkel, S. Gardner, Yeager, Sam Carlson, R. Smith, and King. There is a ton of talent there and represents the next wave of relievers knocking on the door to the majors.
  12. I'd be interested in Mike Ford or Juan Yepez as some 1b depth. Both are more interesting to me than Jake Bauers and are optionable (unlike Bauers)
  13. The Brewers have a top 5 minor league system, so I dont think they need to tear the team down to rebuild. I can see trading Burnes and Adames assuming they get a good return. But trading Peralta impacts the 2024 team too much. I just dont see the Brewers doing that big of a teardown. They could still be competitive trading Burnes and Adames as long as they get close to ML talent back. I'm on the fence with Devin. It has to be a good return. We have depth there so I would be ok with a trade just need to get someone back who can help the ML team next year.
  14. He still has a lot to prove IMO. He was a 25 year old repeating AA. He really did make some huge improvements by cutting his K rate nearly in half. However, 25 year olds in AA are suppose to hit well. Let see how he does in AAA.
  15. Trading Peralta is a sure sign they are in full rebuild mode, so I am hoping that does not happen.
  16. Edwin Jimenez should be on one of these lists (probably the first one), especially if Fitzpatrick is on this list. Brian had a poor season and he was old for the league. Not a great combo. I second Galindez as well. Not a great year but he has some high K rates and has a bright future.
  17. This would still be a fun team to watch and will be good for a while. I think its a good compromise of getting the most value out of the free agents leaving without completely tearing down the 2024 club. I cannot imagine they would DH Frelick over Yelich though. At least I hope they would not let Yelich dictate where he plays. Need to put the best defense out there.
  18. Honestly, its not like Woodruff will be out of a job. He can now sign with any team and he will get a contract this offseason, likely a 2 year deal. I think they treated him fairly. He knows this is a business and they are not going to pay him for 1 year just to rehab next year. Attanasio did say that they discussed a 2 year deal. no idea what the terms were, but it was discussed.
  19. Well, the Brewers thought there was a chance. They waited until the very last minute to non-tender him to see if they could work a trade.
  20. I think this was an overpay but probably not a big deal. My issue is that Bauer really is not all that different than free agents who could have been signed for a similar salary without giving up prospects (Yepez, Dom Smith, Walsh, Vogelbach). As long as this does not prevent the Brewers from signing a better player to play 1b/DH, I wont complain.
  21. too bad they couldnt trade him for a lottery ticket
  22. Toro was going to be non tendered, so any return is good. Patrick will probably be depth pitching for now.
  23. Seattle DFAd Mike Ford. Had a good year last year (122+ OPS) but was bad the past 3. He's arby eligible but is only projected to make $1.5M. He's out of options, so there's that. I'd take him over Dom Smith. He has at least recent success
  24. I actually expected the Brewers to make multiple trades or waiver claims. This is underwhelming and the cost was a little more than I expected for a guy who needed a 40 man roster spot (though Mendez and Moore are both trending the wrong way). The fangraphs article stated Reading is a hitters park, which is what I was able to find as well. I think Dunn truly did find a power stroke but whether that translates into double digit HR numbers in the majors is questionable. He probably makes Toro expendable. Cant see Toro getting $1M+ considering he is out of options. In the end, its probably not that big of a deal and getting the guy closer to the majors is the way to go. Its possible the brewers could still swing a trade. A number of players were DFA'd today. Those teams could still trade them to the Brewers who have plenty of open spots available (even more so with non-tender decisions to happen yet)
