  1. I saw this one on Yahoo News today.? Great timing.
  2. Was Riske so bad today that he couldn't get the last out of a 15-3 loss?
  3. McCalvy makes it sound like he is wearing them currently in the article he wrote today for mlb.com. I like this deal in that the Brewers get someone in Corey Hart who is likely going to be at least average for his position until this 3 year deal is up. What gets me is the amount of people on this board who are also behind the deal and seem genuinely ecstatic about it. I expected to come to brewerfan today and see people yelling about DM making another bad signing. Go back and search for the 2 Corey Hart threads from March and April and then come back here and help me understand how 382 PAs turned "DFA Corey Hart" into "Hurray Corey Hart". I hope it's the contact lenses and rock bat that are helping Corey swing for the fences because if he starts regressing to his '08 or '09 numbers I fear people will be yelling about the money he is making.
  4. Looks like one of these teams isn't going to be losing 6 in a row, and hopefully it's the good guys.
  5. For comparison Scotty Podsednik has 45 RBI with a slugging percentage under .400 for the season.
  6. Wesley Wright had a perfect game going against the Brewers for as long as Gio Gonzalez did against Chicago. This has been a crazy year so far. TBS just posted a graphic that 14 pitchers have taken a no-hitter through the 7th inning this year.
  7. Nice play by Escobar with the Jeter style jump throw and it wasn't even close at first.
  8. Makes me wonder what this was all about since he never got traded......
  9. It's probably better that no deal got done at this deadline, the way things were shaping up for the sellers.
  10. Sure the Cardinals need another effective pitcher, but this seems like a big downgrade getting rid of Ludwick
  11. No kidding. They have 69 HRs on the season, compared to the Brewers 132. Now they don't have Berkman. Frustrating.
  12. I can't believe how bad the Astros are now. We should be taking 2/3 or 3/4 everytime we see the 'stros.
  13. I don't live in Milwaukee so I might be off base, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned PBR. It's what I drink when I drink cheap.
  14. It's a lot more fun to cheer for a competitive team in September. I really learned that for the first time in 2008. But every year has been meaningful to me, most especially the teams of my childhood of the late '80s and early '90s.
  15. Maybe it's just me, but BA and Rock have been really good together lately. BA with his cynicism and Rock with his "no kidding" responses. I can't believe we're still in the 4th inning.
  16. Protection exists in the sense that pitchers will pitch differently to certain hitters based on the situation and who is hitting behind them, but the overall statistical difference in production of a player is generally not affected by his placement in the lineup. There probably won't be a player like Fielder hitting behind Braun in the future, however it will probably be the second or third best hitter in the lineup and not make a significant difference in how Braun is pitched to. Just for fun (Small sample warning) Braun batting 3rd in 2029 PAs - .948 OPS Braun batting 4th in 228 PAs - .637 OPS
  17. I don't know how many teams are in your league, but V-Mart is one of the 3-4 best hitters eligible at catcher and I wouldn't just release him. I think your best bet is to offer him straight up for another injury prone player at a position of need. Make an offer to every team that doesn't have McCann or Mauer if you have to.
  18. Congrats to Matt Garza, throwing the first no-hitter in Tampa Bay history. The TB announcers did a nice job of calling it to.
  19. This is a good point. If anyone saw the Dan Haren press conference, he mentioned that both he and his wife are both from the same city which happens to lie 20 miles away from the stadium in Anaheim. Besides that, his facial expression was one of a man experiencing the greatest day of his life. It wouldn't be a surprise if Haren's choices of cities was very limited.
  20. Dan Haren's contract 2010: $8.25 mil 2011: $12.75 mil 2012: $12.75 mil 2013: $15.5 mil (club option $3.5 mil buyout) The DBacks rid themselves of about $30 million over the next 2 1/2 years, but if you are the Angels you have to be pleased to replace Joe Saunders with Dan Haren.
  21. DM, "We [our scouts] are out looking at a lot of pitchers, and that". That's nice to know.
  22. Welcome back Bob, we missed you. Anyone know where I can buy these jerseys? I've been wanting a personalized one for a while now.
