  1. I was there for a week in early January. For bars with good and local live music (jazz and blues), go to Frenchman Street. It'll be a 10 minute walk for you, on the edge of the French Quarter. The Spotted Cat was a venue I liked, and next door is the Apple Barrel, this tiny little place that was real cozy. There's a number of others too, but I recommend this street because it's a good mix of locals and tourists, authentic and non-tacky. On your walk, there's also a great pizza place called the Mona Lisa on the way there. Its inexpensive but has a very quiet and classy vibe, good place for a date night.
  2. I'd play off the future rivalry with the Rangers. Something like the Houston Bandits or Houston Outlaws.
  3. Selective memory? E.g. Thinking you always lose coin tosses, even though your lifetime record is around .500, because you remember the losses more than the wins.
  4. Flexibility is always a good thing. I'm not the only one with a slightly irrational hope that Aoki signs and turns out to be a fabulous sparkling diamond in the rough. What I dislike is frequent moving of players around. A week or two of play is not enough for a manager to change his mind on certain players. Pick out a lineup, including platoons where beneficial, and stick with it until June 1st at a minimum. Make your changes that are glaring, and then go another 6-12 weeks before shuffling everything around again. Playing the hot hand in baseball is like trying to time the market, it never works like you think its going to and you're just hurting yourself in the end.
  5. If the market is as tepid for Prince as it seems to be, the Brewers should offer Prince an otherwise team-friendly contract, but give him the option to opt-out after the first year.
  6. I really want an MLS team to root for, but Milwaukee just isn't a realistic candidate for a team. From what I've read, a second team in New York is nearly a done deal as team #20, and the league plans to sit on that number for a while after rapid expansion over the past few years. There's no great reason to stretch the talent past 20 teams, the typical soccer league size, so the bar to entry will be high. D.C. United will just move up the highway to Baltimore. Columbus will also likely move eventually, but there are so many markets available that even if Milwaukee is viable, it's a longshot. San Diego, Arizona, San Antonio, Las Vegas, Minneapolis (if they build a joint soccer/football stadium), Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Atlanta...
  7. Seeing that the Brewers changed leagues about 15 years ago, I think any correlation at this point is pretty spurious. I don't see any more sensible option to ending the stupid "six teams in one division" situation we have now.Not to mention, he offered the Royals the chance to move the NL first and they declined.
  8. FWIW... http://www.fangraphs.com/graphs/1945_690_OF_aseason_full_8_20110928.png
  9. Jeffrey Loria still owns the Marlins, so it's highly unlikely they spend for a top free agent. Or maybe he's just been saving up all these years!
  10. Just gotta cry at this point. Equivalent of the Suppan start in '08?
  11. He just had a nasty changeup there to Pujols. Looking good.
  12. Hmmm. I didn't know Fielder could play SS. How good would a team of eight Lucroys? Or can he play SS too? That's apples to oranges my friend. He'd be better or at least as good as a team of 8 Orlando Cabreras, Ronny Cedenos. Jack Wilsons, Edgar Renterias, Clint Barmeses, Paul Janishes, Craig Counsells, Josh Wilsons, and on and on. How far down is a 96 win team pulled anyway? Every other Brewer team in history been pulled down farther. I mean equivalents. Take Betancourt's relative bat and defense to the average at his position, and say you have seven other players that are the same distance from average at their position. This is a team of equivalents for Betancourt based on last year's stats: C - Miguel Olivo 1B - Adam Lind or Mitch Moreland 2B - Aaron Hill 3B - Danny Valencia or Casey McGehee SS - Yuniesky Betancourt LF - Delmon Young CF - Angel Pagan RF - Cody Ross This is based on WAR.
  13. Briggs, answer me this. How good do you think a team with eight Betancourts would be? I have no idea how you could possible come back with an answer of "above .500". Therefore, Betancourt is pulling the team the wrong direction, wouldn't you say?
  14. I just want to point out that two of the next three posters wanted Uecker instead. They're not all crazy.
  15. L, W, L, W, L, W, W Just to make sure the fans are as tense as possible throughout.
  16. On the flip side, you don't want to waste the triumph over them during the first 162 games of the season, making it hurt more to see them play in the World Series, or worse, win it. Sweep 'em.
  17. And Jon Lucroy for blocking about 10 pitches in the dirt with a Diamondback on third base!
  18. Oh, and it's BIG too: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6171/6183368575_db2b8fe3e9_b.jpg
  19. I'm by myself watching this one, so I'm going to be tempted to post my every thought. That was strike three.

  21. I was trying to look back to see if the team was inspired by an old Miami baseball logo, and the best I can find is this Miami Amigo's cap on the left. Same shape of the M: http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=13627&d=1210957115
  22. Delmon Young, part 2? I'd absolutely take Young. Even if his bat doesn't reach above average (though it has the potential to be much more), he's also very good defensively. Not moving Hart for him though, unless it's to first base.
  23. Francona wears Ben Franklin glasses, he was perfect for Boston and their old-timey stadium.
