  1. I would put the Cardinals defense in the OF a notch below that of the Brewers. Pessimistically, we may have just one above average defensive player in our starting lineup next season (Gomez/Dickerson).
  2. Melvin said Yuniesky Betancourt, who came with Greinke in the trade, will be the starting shortstop and likes his offense and says his defense is underrated. "I think he's an exciting player who is still young," said Melvin. "He led their club in RBI. I think he will do OK in the field." Please be lip service.
  3. Nick Punto would make a lot of sense. Switch hitter, can play all around the diamond. Heck, could give him a two year contract, bring Counsell back on a one year deal, cut Betancourt, and have Luis Cruz as depth in Triple-A. Bang, done.
  4. His glove alone negates around 20% of the value Greinke adds. He must not see the field. If Betancourt were to hit .300 OBP / .400 SLG, Cruz would only need to hit about .250 / .300 to break even.
  5. Betancourt probably projects to -12 or -15 with the glove. That's bad, but over 150 games, that's like one run every 10 or 12 games. That's like 1 run every 3 or 4 series. I think we can overcome that. That negates around 20% of the value Zack Greinke adds. That's just his defense. Betancourt is bad.
  6. What am I missing on this guy? His career major league (527 PA) line of .267 / .356 / .403 / .759 His career Triple-A (900 PA) line of .282 / .382 / .471 / .853 Nobody's calling him a potential All-Star, but nothing tells me this guy isn't capable of at least .730-.750 OPS that's shaded a tick towards OBP. ...he is one of the oldest position players that the Brewers have He'll be 29 on April 10. Yeah, he's not a prospect, but we aren't banking on improvement (see above stat lines). He just can't get worse, and guys don't tend to get worse at age 29.
  7. Dickerson has hit .267 / .356 / .403 / .759 in 527 major league plate appearances. We would have been thrilled with that line out of Cain. He also plays average defense at worst. I make Dickerson the starter, slot Gomez as the #5 OF, and bring in another OF to compete with Boggs for the other backup OF spot. I'm comfortable with that.
  8. This sums it up perfectly. I agree. And love the username, ListachRides.
  9. I think you might be incorrectly pushing together the two rumors. I don't think its fair quite yet to assume Betancourt is coming over. One says: Greinke + Betancourt for Escobar + Cain + Jeffress The other says: Greinke + "major league piece" for Odorizzi + Escobar + Cain + Jeffress
  10. We have no firstbase man ready to take over for Prince next year if no extension is signed, Same with Weeks. So now we end up with holes in CF,SS,1B,and 2B. Mat Gamel for first base. We are working to extend Weeks. I really expect Mcghee production to go way down once Prince is gone. Even if protection does exist, McGehee has always hit behind Fielder. I don't see what effect Fielder is having on McGehee. If we sign Greinke and/or Marcum to extensions it will not give us much room to negotiate with free agents to fill our week areas. So we can't fill holes because then we can't fill other holes?
  11. With Odorizzi going over, maybe we can hope for a better player than Betancourt coming our way?
  12. Jim just tweeted that it may in fact be... Escobar, Cain, Jeffress and Odorizzi for Greinke+ EDIT: Got scooped by a couple posts.
  13. Betancourt is terrible. It would be nice if he was at least good at defense, but he's not. Losing Cain sucks. Gomez can at least play defense, but his bat back-to-back with the aforementioned shortstop is going to be some black hole. That said, it's worth it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. Betancourt's contract... 11:$4M, 12:$6M club option ($2M buyout)
  15. Could it have been better if it was R-rated? Or was that not necessary?
  16. It feels unfair to him, but I don't think there's really anything wrong with stashing him at Triple-A, playing 1B/3B/RF/LF, and waiting for an injury. I think you trade him before doing that, but the Brewers know better than I what his market value is. If he's viewed as just a throw-in, then there is no reason whatsoever to move him.
  17. I'll bet you can sample something from this video. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TpYcA9bSaU
  18. Hard part is thinking of a song with just the guitar playing. How about the first note of Wild Thing? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GG4JedMZEhs
  19. Does it need to be held longer?
  20. Don't ask my how this was the first song to pop into my head, but this may work... Marty McFly in Back to the Future: Right at 2:32.
  21. Sorry if I'm behind, but is this poll just based on speculation right now? Or is there a legit rumor that I missed?
  22. I think it's more of a why would we move Cain? I don't think we are making Cain available just to get pitching. Its just that he's not untouchable in a really good offer. We have other avenues yet available to add pitching. Why take the one right now that creates a glaring hole in CF?
  23. It's also finals week. If there's any game that was going to be quiet, it was that one.
  24. And believe me I am still alive. I'm playing baseball and I'm still alive. I feel FANTASTIC and I'm still alive. While you're dying I'll be still alive. And when you're dead I will be still alive. Still alive. Still alive.
