  1. Prediction: Signs for 8 years, $280 million. $35 AAV.
  2. Was MA one of the owners in favor of expanded replay for on-field calls? If stadiums started replaying more stuff to the fans, I can see that putting pressure on the league to add in more reviewable plays.
  3. I vote no divisions, and want to see a round-robin style playoff system if we are moving to 5/6 playoff teams.
  4. I still think the stadium overall looks too "industrial" and could use some brick finishing or something. Like cover the back wall (the one beyond the actual OF wall) and up the major green steel pillars in the back.
  5. I think "awful" is pretty harsh. But it would make sense if they affixed a border all around the video board and ads, considerably or completely closing those gaps.
  6. From those arby numbers, both sides seem to be operating under some wishful thinking. I'm pretty nervous about these conversations at this point. If I'm Genske, I don't even agree to a one-year deal. The Brewers's number is so low. Crap.
  7. Olmedo played in Nashville last year, and has left the organization. Here's the original source of the signing. It lists Olmedo as signing with the Rays. http://www.baseballamerica.com/blog/prospects/?p=10777#more-10777 Yahoo's transaction list must have been wrong. It now says he's signed with the Rays. You scared me though - I wrote that short blurb for Yahoo's news and notes section, thought I made a mistake.
  8. Years 2 and 3 of this deal are actually player options. Soriano could just opt out after this season if the market for closers is better next year. He could also opt out in two years just to force the Yankees to give him a big extension if they really want him to be the heir to Rivera. Excellent deal for the player.
  9. I was there too. Crap, I should have did that.
  10. Yeah, Hoffman could get a Walk of Fame nod, but that's probably it.
  11. You get out of it what you put in, to an extent. But you could get by with around 15 minutes a day or less. Most people in that league are really active, so you could also spend half your day around there if you choose to. That's far from necessary though. I would say 10-15 minutes a day during the regular season, and then a little more on certain days during the offseason to explore trade opportunities with other owners and scout the draft class.
  12. League sucks, don't join. Kidding, of course. OOTP 6.5 is simple yet in-depth, easy to pick up if you've never played before, and the pace of the league makes it very fun because you get feedback on your moves as GM quickly. I ran a team from 1913 until the early 80's, but still hang around the forums (off-topic section mainly).
  13. I've always liked him as well, but I think the star has just about gone out on his career. He's 28 years old, and after missing much of 2009, he posted a .223 / .280 / .299 line in nearly a full season at Triple-A last year. His defense alone makes him a 5th outfielder, but I no longer see reason to think he'll hit anywhere better than a .300-.320 wOBA in the majors over his career, if that.
  14. Eh, Garza's overrated a little. He's definitely not an ace. His career low FIP is 4.14 and xFIP 4.21. Last year they were at 4.42 and 4.51, respectively. I think Marcum is a strong bet to have a better ERA next season. We started this offseason a better team than the Cubs, and we added two pitchers better than the Cubs one acquisition. I still don't see them as a real division threat.
  15. If there were a competition for slowest chef, I wold be world champion. Seriously, it takes me nearly 45 minutes to boil spaghetti and heat sauce. I have no idea where I'm losing so much time.
  16. My group has two extra Rose Bowl tickets that we need to sell. Section 9, Row 67, Seats 14-15 I'm not looking to break any BF.net trading post rules here, but I'll just say that we paid a decent bit over face value for them when were collecting. With the market now repressed a little, we are expecting to take a loss. PM me with your interest and we can talk more about the details.
  17. I think most would agree that the Phillies are the favorite to win the pennant at this point, easily. Next, I think there's a group of four teams... Giants, Cardinals, Reds and Brewers. If you ask 24 people to rank those four teams you might get 24 different answers. I think that makes the Phillies and Giants favorites, while the Cardinals, Reds and Brewers each have about a 66.7% share on the "favorite" title. I'll round up and call us favorites.
  18. That is overall MLB since 1995 expansion. Last year, for example, teams with 88, 89, and 90 wins all missed the postseason. A team with 90 and a team with 91 made the playoffs. Which might help stomach ~89.5 wins being the 50% mark. The orange dots represent the percentage of teams that made the postseason for each given level of wins. So you can see that since 1995, it looks like 2/3rds of the teams with 90 wins made the postseason. But only half of the teams with 93 wins made the playoffs. So the regression line ends up right through point 90, 54%.
  19. Francis would give a better GB rate than Narveson, but I agree with everyone else, we should be focused on upgrading SS first, particularly defensively.
  20. I ran the data about a year ago, here's a little illustration of the value of a marginal win. Melvin needs to keep the pedal to the floor. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d175/sbrylski06/Podds.jpg?t=1292965572
  21. The Royals are actually paying that buyout. 08:$1.25M 09:$2M, 10:$3M, 11:$4M, 12:$6M club option ($2M buyout)acquired by Kansas City in trade from Seattle 7/10/09 (Seattle to pay all of 2009 salary, $1M of 2010 salary, $1M of 2011 salary)So it appears to me we are paying him $3 million this season and zero next year.
  22. Melvin still doesn't understand the value of defense very well, it seems.
  23. I think they should released Betancourt after spring training if he doesn't win a starting job. It is not hard to find a backup caliber guy with his bat that actually plays good defense.
  24. Since they're already paying Yuni, and his SLG, his only real positive, might well be helped by Miller Park, I wouldn't be in much of a hurry to make a move. Betancourt's salary is a sunk cost, it should have zero effect on the decision to bring in another SS.
  25. We have confirmation from his agent that Jeffress is indeed the PTBNL, and your speculation is correct that they were looking into the drug/medical history on him.
