  1. Speaking of Spahn, he had 35 career home runs in the so-called "dead ball era". Dead ball ended in 1920.
  2. With Round 1 complete, here are your leaders with 4 of 5 games correct: Ennder, missed Red Sox brewerguy71, missed Dodgers Gobias Industries, missed Phillies ELCABALLO45, only member to get all 4 first round matchups correct, but did not predict the AL playoff BF.net collective intelligence is horrible. The most popular selections for each round were: Twins over White Sox (WRONG) Angels over Red Sox (WRONG) Rays over White Sox Cubs over Dodgers (WRONG) Brewers over Phillies (WRONG) Most popular ALCS and NLCS predicted winners: Angels and Cubs, both eliminated in round 1.
  3. The total of all his "odds" are 143%.
  4. How about we bring in guys that we feel are the best at their jobs? If that's Molitor, great, but I'm guessing that's not the real reason he's on a shortlist.
  5. Two things: I was a big Austin Kearns guy last offseason, and I'll still defend him. His BABIP was 50 points down this season despite improving his LD% by a percent, as well as a tick higher GB%. His BB% stayed consistent, his K% stayed lower than it had been earlier in his career, and he swung at less pitches outside the zone. He only got 357 PAs, so he surely is a very strong candidate to bounce back next season to a .260 / .360 type player. Sure he's RHed, but if he can be had cheap due to his contract, he's a textbook buy low candidate. I might go as far as declining Cameron's option and trading for Kearns, sliding one of our corner guys to center. And second, Nick Johnson would be a great guy to bring in to replace Fielder if he's traded for pitching. We'd actually improve team OBP. Of course, we need to have a backup option in place due to Johnson's injury problems. The Nats have already said they plan on bringing in a new 1B this offseason.
  6. The marginal value of each additional million goes down as you get into the ridiculous dollar amounts CC will approach. That said, whoever wins the CC Sabathia sweepstakes is also likely to lose it.
  7. Don't underrate Ray Durham and Mike Lamb. I think guys like these two guys get funneled into an unfair "Royals' Starter" category. (Apologies to Royals' fans for the jab.) They aren't great and they aren't sure bets, but they are plenty good enough to be the 7th and 8th guys plugged into your lineup. Durham's not the .380 OBPer he was this season, but if you follow the fluctuations in his BABIP he's been a .350s/.360s talent for his entire career. Mike Lamb is also a guy that in a good year has been a .360 OBPer. We aren't going to have an All-Star player at every position. I think Durham and Lamb get overlooked as the OBP over SLG guys everyone is looking to add. Just keep them around. I'm not an advocate of "giving up" on Weeks yet, though I understand if we want to compete next year we can't just sit on our hands. Durham or an external option over a full year is probably better than another mixed bag season from Weeks. So if we get a good offer for him, especially for pitching, I guess I would have to take it. It would also be great to keep them both around in a platoon, also playing the hot hand. That would kill Weeks future trade value, but it might already be low enough to not matter. Keep the outfield as is. If we need pitching through trade, use Fielder. Gamel or Nelson can fill the role next season. EDIT: And please keep Escobar in AAA this season - his bat ain't ready.
  8. That would be best case scenario for him, and quite unlikely. He only threw 94 innings this year, plus whatever work he gets in the AFL. So I'd estimate 120-140 for him next season at the most, great news if he splits that between Huntsville and Nashville as it means he's pitching well, but it also paces him to shut it down by September. He needs to hone his control before he is ready for the show, he's held a mid-upper 4's BB/9 for his professional career. Sometime in 2010 we'll see him.
  9. I'll third Dodgers - Rays. Not sure who I'd root for yet, but they will get my cheers for their respective LCS.
  10. I'll somewhat second Messiah's comment. These two will be out there every five regardless, assuming we're in the race into September. And I'll second the general consensus that Parra should be good for 200 if healthy, and Gallardo is a bit of an unknown how he'll respond.
  11. I was waiting too, but the piss starting running down my leg so I had to bolt. It would have been a nice gesture, but eh, no biggie.
  12. HA! What is this!?!? This is hilarious and awesome!
  13. Change goes to lives, and you're describing me.
  14. Yeah, I figured that service would have it. There'll be a day when I give in and purchase.
  15. I'm looking for the player with the lowest career ISO in MLB history. Anyone know where I could find something like that? And actually, I'd prefer 1920-present.
  16. Guys, guys. I found it thanks to a little truck icon. Don't worry.
  17. Ha. Couldn't find the old one, but I did search for it. Found Deer Drunk with Uecker Thread as the closest match. Brewers are totally winning tommorow not even joking. Game 3 4 and 5. No, they won't. But they might. Well see.
  18. Here's from the manufacturer for $129.95: LINK I believe its the same one you're talking about.
  19. Seeing as the trade has not been finalized yet, can we removed Brantley's name from the thread title?
  20. But is it May? I have yet to see any type of timetable for this injury. Are we looking at him being back for ST? OD? AS-Break? September '09?
  21. In the .01% chance something like a Fielder for Wright trade goes down, southpaw nailed the corresponding moves. I'd be for it all - I am for retaining Durham and Branyan. Probably a bit too lefty heavy, but keep Lamb around for the bench too. Kapler and Rivera as the other benchers.
  22. I'd do Fielder (Arby/Arby/Arby) for Wright ($7.5M, $10M, $14M, $15M). Move Gamel to 1B. Escobar spends another year in the minors. It'll never happen though.
  23. Mark me down as one that does not want to see him go. I think he should be the starting 2B for the Brewers again next season. I'd like to explore trying Durham at 3B next year, though not sure how realistic that is. Or bring Lamb back.
  24. I'm sure I'm late to the party, but count me interested. I don't really have anything to trade though.
