  1. Ho, I read the headline initially and thought the Pirates took the T-Rats. Whew.
  2. There are about 100 different scenarios that could play out this season, more than in years past. Trade Fielder, trade Corey, trade Hardy, trade Weeks, trade Hall, move Weeks to CF, move Hardy to 3B, move Hardy to 2B, move Gamel to 1B, move Gamel to the OF, call up Escobar, decline Cameron's option, resign Sheets, resign Sabathia, let both go, acquire a new 3B, acquire a new 2B, acquire a new 1B, acquire a new CF, trade for a SP, sign a free agent SP... Determining the best of these options will probably depend on info that we as fans will never be entitled to. Which free agents want to come here? What team is offering great value, and for which player? Is Hardy open to a position change? I think its going to be incredibly hard to speculate on the team's offseason direction, more difficult than in year's past, at least until the first domino falls. So yes, I can see scenarios play out where Hart to 1B does make perfect sense. I can also easily see him staying put, or even moving to CF. I wouldn't be against any of the above, until I see it in context. EDIT: And I know a lot of this usually goes without saying, but I just want to emphasize how difficult speculating this year will be.
  3. No current designated thread, so I made a new one. It seems the general consensus is the lineup should be shaken up for the last two weeks. There's been a few grumblings about Sveum's lineup last night, but I haven't seen many other ideas. What about this radical beast: LF Braun SS Hardy CF Cameron 1B Fielder RF Hart 2B Weeks/Durham 3B Lamb//Counsell/Hall Pitcher C Kendall I'm not necessarily for it, but I think it would be interesting to see. Ryan Braun is swinging out of his shoes on every first pitch, and it seems his average and OBP have plummeted with his P/PA. (Do the stats back this?) Maybe shoving him in the leadoff spot will force him to be a little more patient, and he'll walk a bit more or sit back a little and wait for the right pitch. 2B, Hardy and Cameron are really our next best OBP guys, any combo between 2/3/6 would work in this lineup. I put the guys with more pop at the top of the lineup, and also hitting Weeks/Durham 6th really lets Hart run when he needs too. And lastly, stick Kendall back behind the pitcher to hopefully get more base runners for Braun.
  4. Using career numbers, and giving 2/3rd control of the outcome to the hitter, it was a good decision to bring in Shouse: Shouse OPS vRHB = .845 Blanco OPS vLHP = .710 Total = .755 Villanueva OPS vLHP = .760 Ward OPS vRHB = .785 Total = .777
  5. Yeah, I was going to post something like this in the silver lining thread.
  6. Wow, nasty pitch. Tip of the hat, get them tomorrow.
  7. Let's return the favor Zambrano gave us in our stadium.
  8. The other thing you can do is just click the "quote" button in the bottom right corner of each post and it'll automatically put it in there for you. But then you gotta edit out the text you don't want to quote.
  9. Well then outside the box is the wrong term. Gotta be outside the traditional box and not an idiot.
  10. After seeing tonights traditional lineup, my god do I want a new outside the box manager.
  11. Can someone give some more info on Iorg?
  12. From post #181 linked article: Think about this for a second. Yost had a 481 OPS pitcher facing a 697 OPS hitter. He elected to issue an intentional walk in that situation to allow an 817 OPS pitcher to face a 905 OPS hitter with an additional runner on base. That's when you start looking around the roof of the stadium for snipers, because gunpoint is the only place where that kind of decision makes sense. Awesomely said.
  13. Jack Zduriencik is the only person I'd feel comfortable replacing Doug Melvin with. I hope DM stays. And I really hope Jack Zduriencik stays in his current capacity.
  14. An even more motivated to win Mark Attanasio in 2009.
  15. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d175/sbrylski06/untitled.jpg
  16. Tonight's game is as must win as I'm willing to admit a baseball game can be a must win.
  17. I'm with you. Someone is going to catch fire, 8 guys don't go cold all at the same time for an entire month.
  18. I think they would be hard pressed to not have Jim and Pam get engaged in the first episode, since they are seemingly picking up right where they left off in May. It's not like the guy is going to suddenly not want to marry her, and I don't think he'd wait 8 weeks to ask. I know the general formula for TV romances is to wait on that kind of stuff until sweeps/season finale time, but I think if they try to go that route it will be awkward and weird because they'll have to invent reasons why it hasn't happened yet (it wasn't like Pam was leaving the very next day for New York--I got the impression it would be a couple weeks before it would happen). But Jim was big on waiting for the "right moment." I could see the time from the finale to Pam leaving for New York going by without a proposal.
  19. I just want to post some more pictures of teams already eliminated to help me feel better: Goodbye, Reds! http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0b8HbBQ0YTg4L/610x.jpg http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/05gb2G39wm7WS/610x.jpg http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/images/2006/05/14/gLMcLu6w.jpg Goodbye, Pirates! http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/images/200805/dianapirates0521a_500.jpg http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20080909/capt.3688368f8d404c1097284374ada609dd.pirates_astros_baseball_txbl107.jpg Goodbye, Braves! http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0dYk5604JO4B7/340x.jpg http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/0cS82ud013f5Y/610x.jpg http://deadspin.com/assets/resources/2007/05/bobbycoxgone.jpg
  20. I've got a bad feeling about this season. It'll be hilarious (I think the show is peaking there), but I'm afraid the writers are setting up Jim and Pam for a rocky few weeks. They are going to be separated, Pam's going to New York, and Jim's not getting promoted to Ryan's job, because how would he ever end up back in Scranton. Something bad is going to happen (new receptionist in town, anyone?), and those of you who are tired of the constant PB&J drama are probably going to be a bit peeved, I predict engagement isn't happening until this season finale or even later.
  21. This has been posted in the minor league coaching thread as well. I think it makes sense to promote Don Money with Salome and Gamel to AAA.
