  1. doug melvin has demonstrated being comfortable carrying only two catchers on the roster. the last spring training when the club opened camp with three catchers on the 40-man prior to 2015: 2012. of course, it'll be up to the new general manager, but i too am sensing that centeno will be outrighted to make room for another player.
  2. that increases the likelihood of another team claiming that player. at that point, all the claiming team has to do is have an available 40-man roster spot because they can option said player (likely with three minor league options available).
  3. in every season from 1999 - 2014, the brewers have utilized the 60-day disabled list for at least one player. i have yet to determine if the brewers utilized the 60-day disabled list in 1998 and seasons prior to that. obviously, it will be pretty significant if the brewers avoid using the 60-day disabled list in 2015.
  4. i have to do more digging. according to the 2004 brewers media guide, no players were placed on or transferred to the 60-day disabled list in 2003. but according to this, todd ritchie was transferred to the 60-day disabled list on 7 august 2003.
  5. in 2011, manny parra, takashi saito and mitch stetter were on the 60-day disabled list.
  6. zach davies' contract selected. the roster is at 38.
  7. according to the brewers' website, it looks like yhonathan barrios will have his contract selected. if made official, the roster will be at 38.
  8. looks like yhonathan barrios will have his contract selected.
  9. knock on wood, but thus far, the brewers have avoided placing or transferring any player to the 60-day disabled list. as we all know, placing a player on the 60-day disabled list opens up a spot on the 40-man roster. i looked up the answer . . . anyone care to take a stab on the last season the brewers did not use the 60-day disabled list?
  10. i made a mental note to check on the sounds' record towards the end of the season in the hopes that it'd be horrible. 60-71. third place, 11 games back. this makes me happy.
  11. with the claim of cesar jimenez, and the trade of neal cotts, the roster remains at 37. it appears that jimenez has no minor league options remaining.
  12. i can't even begin to count how many times jimenez has had his contract selected, been outrighted, and then added back to the 40-man roster again. given how often the phillies have done so, you'd think that they were outrighting instead of optioning because he was out of minor league options. his transaction history is too muddled for me to determine whether he has any options remaining. i'm sensing none. http://m.mlb.com/player/462945/cesar-jimenez
  13. i heard bob uecker's call of ryan braun's franchise record 252nd home run. while he gave his usual excited call of the shot, he seemed to downplay the significance of the milestone. could uecker be disappointed that the record set by his good friend, robin yount, was broken by a player who was suspended by mlb for violations of the joint drug prevention and treatment program? now that they're in the top of the subsequent inning, there's been no further discussion on the matter.
  14. agreed. i have removed all photos of my wife from my facebook wall.
  15. according to the 2015 milwaukee brewers media guide, adam lind is married. his wife's name is lakeyshia. the couple has a daughter named martynne and a son named louie. nearly every other teammate has an entry sharing similar details. heck, i remember seeing a twins media guide that listed the maiden names of players' wives. soon, it'll be common sense to see entries like this regardless of orientation, because the sense of the commons is changing.
  16. "out at home--the glenn burke story" is a worthwhile read.
  17. check the visitors' clubhouse at wrigley field for half-torn phone books.
  18. in case you'd forgotten, in a somewhat surprising move, kintzler was optioned to colorado springs in spring training. in april, he was outrighted (off the 40-man roster). in may, the brewers selected his contract (adding him back to the 40-man and 25-man roster). the club later tried to outright him again, but kintzler appealed that he was injured, and instead, the brewers placed him on the major league 15-day disabled list. if the brewers didn't currently have three open spots on the 40-man, you'd think they'd designate kintzler for assignment yet again.
  19. evidently, the brewers think so. they activated him from the disabled list and optioned him to colorado springs.
  20. with today's outright of hector gomez, the roster is at 37. the brewers certainly plan to add a number of prospects to the 40-man roster this offseason; these current vacancies could mean giving some guys a shot in september on the major league roster.
  21. little used hector gomez has been outrighted to colorado springs. jason rogers recalled. this marks the second time that the brewers have outrighted gomez, so he should be able to refuse the minor league assignment and declare free agency if he do desires. this move also opens up a spot on the 40-man roster.
  22. no. everybody can pronounce "peterson" correctly.
  23. guilmet can be optioned back and forth this season (but will require ten days in the minors for each stay unless being recalled for an injured player). he will enter 2016 spring training with no minor league options remaining.
