  1. sean nolin is expected to start the season on the disabled list.
  2. rotation set (barring injuries or transactions): wily peralta, jimmy nelson, matt garza, taylor jungmann and chase anderson.
  3. I sort of remember that too? Was it Kintzler? i believe this is what you're referring to. it wasn't during spring training, and it was kintzler appealing to be placed on the 15-day disabled list.
  4. i can't recall a brewer who was likely ticketed to the minor leagues (such as barrios) ever being put on the 60-day disabled list before opening day. it likely stems from the team's reluctance for that player to earn major league service time (and pay) while on the disabled list. i should clarify. barrios would definitely qualify for the 15-day disabled list, and would accrue major league service time and pay during that time. he could be activated when the 15 days are up, and either sent to the minors on a rehab assignment or optioned to the minors and paid per the terms of his split contract (and then placed on the minor league dl). thus, the brewers would reduce his service time by 45 days by using the 15-day instead of the 60-day disabled list.
  5. i can't recall a brewer who was likely ticketed to the minor leagues (such as barrios) ever being put on the 60-day disabled list before opening day. it likely stems from the team's reluctance for that player to earn major league service time (and pay) while on the disabled list.
  6. counsell stated today that these relievers are assured a spot on the 25-man roster: michael blazek (can be optioned), jeremy jeffress, corey knebel (can be optioned), will smith and tyler thornburg.
  7. this 28 march opt-out applies to any player signed to a minor league contract and invited to big league camp who spent the entire 2015 season on a major league roster and/or major league disabled list.
  8. ramon flores just entered today's game in left field in the 5th inning.
  9. best: joe block for jeff levering worst: one year before possibly gaining use of the dh, trading khris davis
  10. cecchini can be optioned in 2016. if middlebrooks' contract is selected and he's added to the roster, he would be out of minor league options.
  11. updated list of low-salary players out of minor league options: as of today, here are the low salary players that do not have any minor league options remaining: ramon flores jeremy jeffress rymer liriano kirk nieuwenhuis sean nolin ariel pena tyler thornburg jonathan villar
  12. The guy Oakland DFA'd might be worth a waiver claim. LHP Sean Nolin was actually a Brewers draft pick, unsigned out of high school, in 2008. bringing things full circle, nolin fills the roster to capacity. he is out of minor league options.
  13. flores completed rehab last week and states he is ready to go.
  14. all but pena can be optioned in 2016.
  15. starting today, teams can place players on the 60-day disabled list to free up spots on the 40-man roster. the brewers' roster is at 39.
  16. as of today, here are the low salary players that do not have any minor league options remaining: ramon flores jeremy jeffress rymer liriano kirk nieuwenhuis ariel pena tyler thornburg jonathan vilar plus, rule 5 picks zack jones and colin walsh have to be treated like they have no options remaining in 2016 if the brewers wish to retain either/both. i can't recall a spring training in recent years where the club has carried so many low salary players with zero options left.
  17. the brewers are indeed considering moving braun back to lf.
  18. today's trade of khris davis likely paints a clearer picture of the 2016 outfield. on one side, it opens up a 40-man roster spot that could be claimed by eric young, jr. (or another player). on another side, it increases the likelihood that three players, all of whom are out of minor league options, all make the club: ramon flores, rymer liriano and kirk nieuwenhuis.
  19. with today's trade of khris davis for two minor league players, the roster is at 39.
  20. jacob nottingham becomes the 19th nri for 2016 spring camp.
  21. blaine boyer becomes the 18th nri for 2016 spring camp.
  22. similar to numbers in recent years, but notable in that david stearns is continuing the trend. 17 non-roster invitees to date for 2016 camp. not a record for the brewers, but getting close.
  23. shane peterson has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to the minor leagues. he will be in big league camp as a non-roster invitee. should he be added to the brewers 25-man roster, he will have no minor league options remaining.
  24. the 40-man roster is still full after yesterday's trade with the diamondbacks. chase anderson appears to have one minor league option remaining, but based on reports, it seems that the brewers do not plan on exercising it.
  25. the brewers want to keep peterson in the organization. many teams already have their triple-a depth lined up (in contrast to early november when opportunities were abound). peterson is out of minor league options, so that works against him in claiming him. he knows that the brewers are trying relative unknowns in center field, and he knows that ryan braun can be bitten by the injury bug. and he knows that another proven pinch hitter, jason rogers, is no longer in the organization. i think he'll opt to stay, and await having his contract purchased again in 2016.
