  1. today's waiver claim by the cubs of frankie de la cruz puts the roster at 39, plus a suspended mark rogers.
  2. out of all of the position players on the 40-man roster (excluding the injured corey hart), the player with the fewest plate appearances (8) is jeff bianchi. all other players on the 40-man have had at least 14 plate appearances. seems rather telling for the fate of jeff bianchi, yet with one minor league option remaining, he does not have to be outrighted from the 40-man roster to be sent to the minor leagues.
  3. the minnesota department of transportation endorses the zipper during road construction. you should too. do the zipper merge
  4. more indication that brooks conrad has a shot at the 40-man and 25-man roster . . .
  5. if you have a problem, find an usher or security official. politely state that you're visiting their fair city, paid the team for your tickets (not a ticket reseller), that you've been spending money at area hotels, restaurants and merchants . . . but that you're dissatisfied with a fan's or fans' behavior.
  6. with corey hart's injury, it appears that a player who can also play first and back up mat gamel has a good shot of making the club (assuming hart opens on the disabled list). 40-man roster player taylor green bats left-handed like gamel, so he doesn't seem a likely candidate. 40-man roster player brock kjeldgaard bats right-handed, but hasn't played above double-a. he also has outfield experience. the candidates with major league experience at first base are not on the 40-man roster: mike rivera (bats right), brooks conrad (switch hitter) and travis ishikawa (bats left).
  7. todd rosiak projects today that brooks conrad has a leg up on gaining the final bench spot in that among other positions, he can be used as an emergency catcher. brooks conrad is not on the 40-man roster. i'd project that if brooks conrad makes the roster, it's at the expense of trying to outright either eric farris or jeff bianchi.
  8. domestic assault charge . . . later dropped.
  9. chris dickerson was outrighted to the minor leagues by the yankees. any major league team could've claimed him.
  10. "all samples shall be taken immediately to fedex on the day they’re collected absent unusual circumstances". that's what the joint drug prevention and treatment program states. there needs to be a clause on protocols for when "unusual circumstances" occur: the unusual circumstances need to be reported immediately to a supervisor, the supervisor has to be fully compliant in sharing all details of the unusual circumstances with mlb and the players' union, etc. one can only assume that when immediately made aware of unusual circumstances, management would find a way to fulfill the task at hand--which is transferring the shipment to an authorized carrier. in other words, a competent manager would have known that a 24-hour fed ex facility is available at mitchell international airport, and would have instructed the collector to drive there. ryan braun did not give any indication that the collector made any effort to discuss the situation with a superior or a co-worker. at this point, we're led to believe that the collector had no contact with any person of authority at comprehensive drug testing, inc. during those 44 hours.
  11. stating the obvious: ryan braun is able to remain on the 40-man roster. remember, the brewers' 40-man roster is really 41 when mark rogers' suspension ends after the eighth mlb game in april.
  12. because braun will be speaking before journalists today, and because it will be captured on video, i think it'd be really cool for the entire brewers organization to walk in with ryan braun, as a sign of support, and then send him off to the table or podium. they don't need to each speak with him (because that would take too long)--but it would speak volumes about the support we all know that they've given him throughout his entire career.
  13. i saw it mentioned somewhere last night . . . what is the name of the company that was responsible for collecting the sample(s) and shipping them via fedex?
  14. if you are near a major metropolitan airport, you can drop off expedited packages with fedex or ups. they have facilities near or at the airport. i've done it numerous times with ups late in the evening hours.
  15. oh, how i would love to have that fed ex tracking number. i'd play those numbers on powerball.
  16. want some fun reading? http://forum.brewerfan.net/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=8860
  17. manzanillo threw a bullpen session in recent days, so it's unlikely that he'd be headed to the 60-day disabled list as a result of the injuries from his car accident.
  18. manzanillo has thrown a bullpen session under the watch of ron roenicke.
  19. i just revisited the brewers' 2008 transactions. turns out that it wasn't pitching that was chosen ahead of jay gibbons . . . laynce nix got a 40-man (and 25-man) roster spot in august, and angel salome and mat gamel got 40-man roster spots ahead of jay gibbons. everyone else was already on the 40-man and recalled. seeing how late gibbons signed a contract, i doubt there's an opt-out clause before the end of spring training. gibbons sure must enjoy living in nashville to have signed this deal . . . because that's likely where he's headed.
  20. at this point, jay gibbons does not have an invitation to major league camp. he'll get to fight with corey patterson in minor league camp. granted, because gibbons was signed to a minor league deal back in 2008, this thread should've been started in the minor league forum, and therefore resurrected in the minor league forum.
  21. wow. gibbons got burned in 2008, huh? if i recall correctly, the brewers were so desperate for pitching help, that there was no room left on the 40-man for a september call-up. we'll see how 2012 treats him.
  22. minor league deal with oakland.
  23. wow. the giants now have 28 non-roster invitees in big league camp.
  24. i just was talking with a giants fan and asked him if he knew how many non-roster invitees the club had. he didn't, so i looked it up. 25 players!
  25. take russell branyan (yes, two a's) off the board. of course, the brewers could trade for him, but that's doubtful when you consider they could've just signed him.
