  1. i like the signing of cesar izturis. barring the signing of another infielder to a major league contract, i'm confident izturis will make the club.
  2. just a note that this ramirez signing would put the roster at 39--with mark rogers being the 39th player but restricted due to his suspension. of course, that number could go down tonight if the brewers decide to non-tender any of their arbitration-eligible players.
  3. in case you've forgotten, there's a forum devoted to the minor leagues . . .
  4. a reminder on the importance of seat belts. you generally don't fly through the sun roof and potentially land on your head if you're wearing a seat belt.
  5. seeing that he'll be relocating to los angeles, i see more soap opera appearances in his future.
  6. very sad news. i'm wondering if the mariners could make an appeal to mlb regarding the upcoming rule 5 draft on 8 december. halman was on the 40-man roster at the 18 november deadline to protect players for the rule 5 draft. he could have been using a spot that the mariners might have otherwise used to protect an additional prospect. because of these unfortunate circumstances, could the mariners add to their 40-man roster another prospect that was in their organization at the rule 5 draft deadline, and have him protected from the rule 5 draft? i'm not aware of any 40-man roster players dying (at least in recent years) after the conclusion of the world series but before the start of spring training, so this might be the first time such an exception could be made.
  7. war! what is it good for? absolutely nothin'!
  8. in late april/early may, i'd feel better getting mark rogers off a sharp triple-a rehab assignment where he pitched consecutive days in cooler conditions, because that experience would be valuable in st. louis and san francisco--two ballparks where the temps can be low in late april/early may.
  9. a minor league rehab assignment after a salad tongs injury would allow mark rogers to get work in on back-to-back days (and in conditions cooler than arizona), whereas at the major league level, that kind of workload might be difficult to slot. if he excels during his rehab, one has to feel better about putting him out there in the big leagues. i'm also going on the assumption that another brewers pitcher would become injured by the time the salad tongs injury is healed. convenient transaction.
  10. or be placed on the major league disabled list (if he has a qualifying injury). but he does enter 2012 spring training with no minor league options remaining. if all the brewers pitchers are healthy out of spring training, i recommend the brewers create an amazon gift registry for mark rogers with nothing but salad tongs on it.
  11. --scott erickson's no-hitter against the brewers at the metrodome --the edwin nunez sucker punch / near-cycle from darryl hamilton / kevin reimer 6-hit game / matt maysey extra-innings hit doubleheader sweep against oakland
  12. i thought this thread was about his three children with three different women.
  13. i love that counsell got a standing ovation last night and then got a base hit. classy brewers fans will remember it was his bases loaded walk in the final game of the 2008 season that set the stage for ryan braun.
  14. take a look at the signs last night in the astros' visiting clubhouse (where the cardinals dressed). classy move (edit: changed link to perma-link --1992)
  15. he had a memorable grand slam against the pirates in 2008 . . . a few of those, some based loaded doubles (along with a slumping kemp), and it's possible.
  16. i counted the roster full at 40 before the fiers transaction. who gets bumped or transferred to the 60-day disabled list?
  17. in 2008, rickie weeks was injured during the nlds and was replaced by a player on the 40-man roster before the fourth and final game of the series. that player was not on the brewers 25-man roster as of 31 august.
  18. let's put it this way . . . based on how the 25-man roster was set at 11:00 pm on 31 august, the brewers would rather have taylor green eligible for the post-season instead of mat gamel.
  19. just name the players already! i assume that because the brewers want to add logan schafer to a full 40-man roster, that the mets will be making their selections today--and at least one of the players is currently on the brewers 40-man roster.
  20. on hold right now with mlb customer service to alert them.
  21. last year, the reds optioned edison volquez on 31 august and recalled him on 7 september (less than a ten day period). no other player was placed on the disabled list by the reds between those dates, so he wasn't replacing an injured player.
  22. a little more insight on this link when rickie weeks went down in the 2008 division series and replaced by alcides escobar . . . escobar was on the 40-man roster as of 31 august 2008, but he was not on the 25-man roster as of 31 august 2008.
