  1. braun expected to miss only the requisite 10 days.
  2. i wonder if the outcome would have been different had 30-man rosters been extended.
  3. i mistakenly stated that brett anderson needed to be added back to the 40-man roster in order to be activated. he was never removed from the 40-man. he has been activated, with jacob nottingham optioned to the alternate training site in grand chute.
  4. the brewers confirm that both players clear intake. the cpp remains at 55.
  5. shelby miller opts out of playing in 2020, and thus, cannot be added back to the brewers' club player pool. the cpp is at 55 with two players still in limbo on the special covid-19 list.
  6. shelby miller has opted out of the 2020 season. he cannot rejoin the brewers' club player pool.
  7. i will be shocked if keon broxton doesn't have his contract selected today.
  8. he saw action in grand chute yesterday.
  9. lorenzo cain is placed on the restricted list, removing him from the 40-man roster. the roster is at 39, with two players on the special covid-19 injured list.
  10. lorenzo cain is placed on the restricted list, and is removed from the cpp. it was our original understanding once a player opted out for the season and was thus removed from the 60-man club player pool, he could not be added back. there was a side agreement that allowed players to opt back in by 1 august, which nick markakis took advantage of. the cpp is at 56, with two players still in limbo on the special covid-19 list.
  11. in addition to of hedbert perez, rhp justin topa has been added to the cpp and will report to the alternate training site in grand chute. the cpp is at 57, with two players still in limbo on the special covid-19 list.
  12. it's now listed on the blue jays' website as placement on the bereavement list.
  13. 17 marlins players now.
  14. considering that the brewers start a stretch of 17 games in 17 days on friday and that a week from tomorrow, they are supposed to pare down to a 28-man roster, advantage to the brewers for an extension of the 30-man roster. seeing how good counsell has been with an expanded roster in past septembers, i'm hoping it happens.
  15. the only healthy pitcher on the 40-man roster right now optioned at the alternate training site is trey supak. i don't think that the club wants to risk losing grimm just yet--especially given their pitching woes. don't forget, when the brewers signed position players jedd gyrko and brock holt, it was at the expense of removing pitchers jake faria and taylor williams from the 40-man (and the latter from the organization). i think they'll send a pitcher out on optional assignment and dfa a position player on optional assigment (barring another player hitting the covid-19 injured list). david freitas is at greater risk to be dfa'd, in my opinion . . . and the brewers can take solace knowing that the marlins just activated two of their veteran catchers, and optioned two catchers to camp. the marlins probably don't need any more catchers on their 40-man roster.
  16. he's opting back in.
  17. the players union is pushing to extend the 30-man roster.
  18. this may help with service time, if you feel like doing the math. the author got a copy of the 101-page mlb operations manual.
  19. reports that angel perdomo has been working out in grand chute at the alternate training site. he has not been formally activated from the covid-19 injured list, and therefore, still does not count against the 60-man cpp or the 40-man roster.
  20. trades can only include players from the 60-man player pool. it's unclear if teams are permitted to include cash or a player to be named later in a deal. a player to be named later was permitted in this deal. furthermore, the named player had a spot on the 60-man club player pool, but had been removed from his club's cpp, but had remained in the organization. so, presumably, provided you've had cpp status at some point in 2020, you can be traded. also presumably, when reporting to your new club, you must be assigned to that club's cpp--either to the alternate training site or the major league roster.
  21. up to 16 marlins players and two coaches who have tested positive.
  22. grimm is now 31 years old, and is only 61 days of service shy of eligibility for article xx-b free agency. with service time being prorated this year, he only needs 22 days on the active roster to reach six years of service and be eligible for free agency.
  23. brett anderson will be activated friday to make his brewers debut as an initial out getter.
  24. with the marlins claiming mike morin, the cpp remains at 55 players, with the same two aforementioned players on the covid-19 il.
