  1. Joey Cora will interview for the Brewers job. Count me in the minority that think gambling on a younger guy like Cora is the right move for this team.
  2. Sounds like Kenny is looking to get Berkman and Myers. Shock the world? Big move but I don't know about shocking the world. Berkman can't hit lefties anymore.
  3. http://mlb.fanhouse.com/2010/07/09/brewers-put-fielder-hart-weeks-on-table/ The fire sale is on!
  4. More work to do? Yes. Great step in the right direction? Hell yes.
  5. Not a big fan. Saw that we were linked to him according to Tigers' writer: http://twitter.com/joecapMARLINS/status/15193266460
  6. Francisco Liriano has been impressive so far in winter ball. "I just got a report that he's throwing the living fire out of the ball down in the Dominican (Republic)," said Twins manager Ron Gardenhire. "He threw eight innings the other day, and his fastball was 92 to 94 (mph) and his slider was filthy. That's a really good thing, because he can be the bonus if we can get him on track." A healthy Liriano would fit beautifully behind Nick Blackburn, Scott Baker, Kevin Slowey and Carl Pavano in the Twins' starting rotation. I am still among the skeptics on this guy. He looked terrible last year. Hopefully he gets his stuff back but I certainly wouldn't count on it.
  7. Royals declined catcher Miguel Olivo's $3.3 million option for 2010. Olivo batted .249/.292/.490 with 23 homers, 65 RBI and a .781 OPS in 2009, but the Royals opted for the $100,000 buyout on his mutual option. The Royals could have a completely different look behind the plate in 2010, with John Buck a likely candidate to be non-tendered in December. Buck or Olivo would be solid short term solutions behind the plate.
  8. Here's the Twins forum at KFAN (local AM sports radio station): http://rubechat.kfan.com/viewforum.php?f=18 There's a few topics on it. The main trade topic seems to be pretty optimistic for the Twins on this one. They all agree that they got hosed in the Santana trade but did fine in this one.
  9. The guy was the centerpiece of the Santana trade. While his OBP is not where you'd like it (to say the least), we got a solid young player with potential gaining a ton of salary relief in the process. I won't say I'm blown away by the trade but I don't think it's fair to grade it until we see what Doug is able to do with the pitching staff.
  10. Isn't this the same knob who said we had a deal in place to land Zack Greinke? No story here at all. Is trading Fielder while his value is at its peak a good idea? Maybe. But I think they have to do their due diligence and find out what Boras will accept in an extension, if the Brewers can afford it and what trades are out there. I don't think anything's going to happen before next year's trade deadline.
  11. http://ussmariner.com/2009/07/13/the-jj-hardy-plan Hardy for Bedard, Washburn and cash. I'm all for it.
  12. go with Catalanatto. Just my preference.
  13. Sounds like he'll be let go if Andruw makes the team. He'd be my choice.

  15. From Rotoworld via hot stove blog: The Brewers have joined a group of teams that will watch free agent Chad Cordero throw this Wednesday and Friday. Cordero could be the Brewers' back-up plan if they lose out on Trevor Hoffman. The 26-year-old closer is hoping to prove that his shoulder is in good shape with these throwing sessions. He had major surgery this offseason but is expected to be ready by Opening Day. The Diamondbacks, Nationals and Tigers will also be in attendance. I have a feeling that it's not the Dodgers being played but the Brewers to raise Hoffman's price to play for Dodgers. Hopefully we can work it out but I think Trevor will be a Dodger. Cordero scares me but if he returns to form, he's a steal.
  16. He says the Brewers might look at Brandon Lyon. Isn't he a type A? Yikes. He also said he "expects" them to talk to Trevor Hoffman soon. I'd prefer Hoffman over Lyon and giving up a 1st. That said, this is mostly a fluff piece with him guessing what Melvin might do. Thought I'd post a link anyway. http://sports.espn.go.com...344&name=olney_buster
  17. Per MJS http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/35082834.html
  18. Became a free agent yesterday when he refused assignment. Sounds like he thinks he'll be ready to pitch by late spring training. What do you think he'd be looking for? I think he could be worth a flyer....
  19. Just talks about managers in similar situations but can't come up with anyone that's been in this type of position this late before.
  20. Pedro rulz. I'd love a shot at the tickets. I do try to post here often but I've been traveling a lot for work of late and haven't had a lot of time. Your generosity is very appreciated. Jeff
  21. I worried about Bedard and I'm glad he's going to be a Mariner. Next on my list of worries with the Cubs is Joe Nathan. If they add a top 5 closer, I worry. That's been their Achilles heel for awhile now. Could be dangerous if they landed him and signed him to an extension. Hopefully they give up too much for Roberts and won't have what the Twins are looking for.
  22. Mauer signed a long term deal about a year ago.
  23. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/14355301.html Just a hunch but I'll bet that Santana is gone within a week. Smith did something to appease Twins Nation so that giving up Johan for peanuts won't hurt so bad. Interested to see how his contract compares with Baby Jesus (Mauer). Story updated to say that Cuddyer is also signing a long term deal. Big news for the Twins.
  24. I see us landing Haren is if we give up Sheets to a club willing to give up some prospects (LA, NYY, Bos) which go to Oakland. We'd have to add at least a solid young player to upgrade to Haren. Highly unlikely. No way does Gwynn and Jackson land us Haren. He's a top ten MLB starter under his team's control for 3 more years.
