  1. Blanton to Milwaukee for Chris Capuano and Dave Bush would also make sense. The Brewers need quality more than quantity when it comes to starting pitching, and it would allow them to save a little money. http://www.rotoworld.com/content/features/column.aspx?sport=MLB&columnid=2&articleid=29637 That's a little rich for my blood but maybe others out there are higher on Blanton than I am. Not a terrible trade but also not one I'm overly excited about.
  2. Thought this would be a good thread to post the latest from Ken Rosenthal concerning Ned's future: The Brewers are tied with the Cubs for first place in the NL Central, but Ned Yost could be in trouble if the team misses the postseason after opening the season 24-10. The Brewers' Class AAA and AA managers, Frank Kremblas and Don Money, were managers of the year in their respective leagues. And Joe Girardi lives not far away in Lake Forest, Ill.
  3. Interesting read regarding this topic: proxy.espn.go.com/page2/s...okies.html
  4. Those last two picks couldn't have gone any worse for us.
  5. For what it's worth: sportsillustrated.cnn.com...index.html I would think most of y'all would be pretty excited about this.
  6. www.denverpost.com/rockies/ci_5483072 "Jon Lieber's situation should come to a breaking point soon. The Phillies aren't going to use him as a reliever. The most logical scenarios floating around: Lieber and Aaron Rowand to the White Sox for a reliever, or Lieber to the Brewers for Kevin Mench." Does this make any sense at all? Isn't this just recycled? If the Phils pick up the rest of the salary difference, would we have any interest? Sheets, Cappy, Bush, Suppan and Lieber would be interesting. I personally don't think it's much of an upgrade over Vargas or Villy. I'd prefer a prospect myself.
  7. The latest from Rotoworld: The Cardinals' only offer to keep free agent Jeff Suppan was for less than $20 million over three years. Jeff Weaver is a better bet than Suppan to stay in St. Louis. The Brewers and Giants are the leading candidates for Suppan right now. If the Blue Jays are interested, they've been keeping it quiet lately.
  8. DAMN!!!!! Donnelly to the Red Sox. Hopefully the multiple players means there's another trade on tap. Donnelly doesn't have any closing experience, does he? Is he coming in to be the setup man? I hope so...
  9. When I saw the DeJean rumor, it got me thinking that we already had 6 bullpen arms so Dougie must be planning a trade. Since Turnbow has closer experience and with so many teams in need of bullpen arms, I can see him going. If Turnbow goes away and they bring in DeJean, who's the main setup guy for Cordero? I hope it's not Wise. Aquino? Yikes. I hope Capellan could grow into that role but that's a big gamble.
  10. Everything I've read says Ryan is reluctant to give up a young reliever in Crain even for a guy like Jennings. I doubt this package will excite him much. Kubel is still in the Twins plans for next year. They definitely need a LF but I think there are plenty of options out there for them. Jenkins or Mench for something smaller works for me. They have a ton of young pitching talent in the minors. Split the salary with them and get a prospect. I'd be happy to do that.
  11. I keep seeing that they might be williing to put Gavin Floyd in a deal for Garcia. I'd be more than willing to give up Capellan and Mench for Lieber and Floyd even if we have to pick up all of Lieber's salary. I don't see Gillick willing to give him up in that package though. Who would we have to include in order for them to put him in?
  12. Here's a blurb on mlbtraderumors.com that I found interesting: One deal that was rumored a few weeks ago was Aaron Rowand for Mench and, perhaps, Damian Miller. Personally I'm not a big Rowand guy.
  13. Graffy could definitely be an option. Someone with a high on base percentage towards the top of the order that plays decent defense but won't cost us too much. Graffy fits the description as well as Loretta does.
  14. If Ryan Braun is better off in LF than 3B defensively and If Weeks is better off in CF than 2B defensively and If Hall's talent is better utilized in the infield and If we're not having much luck finding a big corner OF bat then... Is Mark Loretta someone we should talk to? Probably wouldn't cost too much. Still solid offensively and defensively. Look at the lineup: Weeks CF Loretta 2B Hall 3B Fielder 1B Braun LF Hart RF Hardy SS Miller/Rivera C P Next year could be rough defensively in the OF. But if we're better off in the future with those two in their new positions, should we think about it? This would give us about 7-8 mil to spend on relief help and/or a bottom end starter. Thoughts?
  15. They're already in desperate need of a power bat for DH and someone to man LF if Kubel isn't the answer. They don't have much for right handed bats (he and Hunter are it) so I don't see him as an option.
  16. This is from a FA prediction story on Rotoworld: Dave Roberts (Padres) - Prediction: Brewers - three years, $16 million I can live with that.
  17. The blurb from ESPN on the top 20 in the draft said Jeffress was number 11 overall in their rankings. I would cut and paste it but it's from ESPN Insider so that's a nono. Basically they say he's a true flamethrower with a slim frame. Velocity is not just an early inning thing and while his curveball is inconsistent, his changeup is solid which is unusual to say the least for a HS pitcher. Durability is not an issue with this kid they say. They finished saying he projects very well. Overall a very good review.
  18. Jeffress it is. I'm not a huge fan of picking HS pitchers usually but it sounds like this kid could be tough. Poll: Bard vs. Jeffress?
  19. While I'd love to see one of the top college arms slide to us, I just don't see it happening. I'd be elated to see Sapp as our pick. Miller went earlier than some would've expected but most of the other picks have been as expected. Jack is the man.
  20. Very nice Bruce. Very good info. The signability thing scared me a little. I didn't see that as much of an issue with him.
  21. Wow. Townsend at 8, Pelfrey and 9. Maybin's still out there.
  22. I was hoping for Romero or Maybin. Oh well. Braun looks solid. We'll see.
  23. I would agree. Personally I can live with Braun but there are a lot of guys I'd prefer over him. Clement would work for me. Bruce, Romero, Hochevar (pipe dream), even Maybin. But he's better than anyone else at that position in our organization. We'll see. Jack likes to surprise...
  24. I thought the draft was a teleconference. Maybe it's just a studio analysis or something.
  25. I've heard the same rumor about Ken's nickname. Not sure of its origin. Everest? I always thought the true hatred was towards SPASH or Marshfield.
