  4. ROUND 50: Chad Jones - OF 6'3", 215, L/L, Louisiana State University http://www.tigerrag.com/wp-content/uploads/dsc_0341_jones_villanova_lsu_09.jpg SCOUTING REPORT: Jones is an extremely athletic prospect, although football has always come first for him, recently drafted in the third round of the NFL draft by the Giants this past April. On the gridiron he is a hard-hitting safety with ballhawking skills, and on the baseball diamond he has played both the outfield and has pitched for LSU. He served some key roles last year during LSU's championship season, coming out of the bullpen to record some key outs down the stretch, reaching the low-90s with his fastball and also throwing an explosive breaking ball as a left-handed pitcher. His time was limited last spring as he took a few weeks off from baseball to be part of the football team's spring practices. As an outfielder he has good speed and a strong arm with a promising and powerful left-handed bat at the plate. Jones seems intent on playing in the NFL, so I wouldn't expect him to pursue any kind of a baseball career. NOTES & INFO: Born 10/5/1988 Former starting safety on LSU's football team. Taken in the 3rd round of the NFL draft by the NY Giants. Previously drafted by Astros in 13th round in 2007. Hit .343/.489/.486 in 45 PA for the Tigers in 2009. He has decent quickness behind the plate and shows an advanced ability of blocking balls in the dirt. He has a strong, compact frame with some bat speed and pop in his swing, but his defense is ahead of his bat at this stage in his development. Like most catchers, he doesn't run particularly well. 20. ROUND 40: Scott Matyas - RHP 6'4", 220, R/R, University of Minnesota http://image.cdnl3.xosnetwork.com/pics9/640/DP/DPZNIFFXWKDFPGD.20080324223803.jpg (Gopher Sports) SCOUTING REPORT: Matyas' arm strength was well known coming out of high school, as he also served as Kettle Moraine's quarterback, but he lacked polish and a solid secondary offering. He has worked hard on his game and has developed a pretty good slider, which is now his best pitch. He profiles best in short relief, throwing consistently in the upper-80s to low-90s, and has a tall, athletic frame. NOTES & INFO: Born 1/18/1988. Wisconsin native: from North Prairie and attended Kettle Moraine HS. In 27 G/0 GS: 37.0 IP, 29 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 14 BB, 6 HBP, 60 K, 3 HR (2.19 ERA). 22. ROUND 42: Johnny Dishon - OF 5'11", 193, R/R, Louisiana State University http://image.cdnl3.xosnetwork.com/pics10/200/UG/UGGCOBZCEXQJOGS.20091202180958.jpg (LSU Sports) SCOUTING REPORT: Dishon is a very gifted athlete with close to 5-tool potential, highlighted by his speed. He hasn't received much playing time in his three years at LSU, red-shirting during his true sophomore year due since it would have been tough for him to get regular playing time given the presence of players such as Jared Mitchell, Leon Landry and Mikie Mahtook. He did play in the Valley League last summer and was named one of the circuit's top prospects. He has good power potential at the plate and a strong arm, and could end up being an exciting centerfielder if all of the tools come together for him. He may be inclined to return to LSU for his junior year of athletic eligibility. NOTES & INFO: Born 3/21/1989 Hit .213/.333/.492 in 75 PA. NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: LSU player profile
  23. ROUND 43: Steven Okert - LHP 6'2", 210, L/L, Grayson County CC (TX) SCOUTING REPORT: Okert is a good-sized lefty with improving stuff, which includes a fastball that has gone from the mid-80s to the upper-80s over the past year, as well as a 76-79 mph slurvy curveball.
