  1. ROUND 13: Michael White - RHP 6'6", 185, R/R, Walters State Community College (TN) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/michael-white.jpg SCOUTING REPORT: White has come a long way since the Brewers drafted him in 2008. Both his fastball and breaking ball continue to improve, as he now throws his heater in the low-90s, up a few ticks from a year ago, and his breaking ball has better bite. He does continue to struggle to consistently command the strike zone, although he did go 10-0 this season with 5 complete games, striking out 102 batters in 95 innings of work for perennial juco powerhouse Walters State. Many believe he will continue to get better as he fills out his lanky body, tightens up his delivery and starts to find the strike zone more consistently. NOTES & INFO: Born 9/11/1989. Drafted by the Brewers in the 33rd round of the 2008 draft. Committed to Western Carolina. In 14 G/13 GS: 95.0 IP, 66 H, 34 R, 23 ER, 39 BB, 8 HBP, 102 K, 5 HR (2.18 ERA). 2. ROUND 14: Mike Walker - 3B 6'3", 215, L/R, University of the Pacific http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/paci/sports/m-basebl/auto_headshot/2653816.jpeg SCOUTING REPORT: Walker exhibits a high baseball acumen and is a solid overall athlete with good, not great tools across the board. He has a good glove and a strong arm at third base, and swings a left-handed bat at the plate capable of hitting 15-20 home runs a year with regular playing time. He has exhibited a patient eye at the plate, but his ceiling is limited, likely as a utility player with the ability to play both the infield and outfield corners. At worse, he should fill a valuable spot in the system at third base the next several years. NOTES & INFO: Born 6/12/1988. Hit .327/.390/.552 in 249 PA. 3. ROUND 15: Chris Bates - LHP 6'4", 180, L/L, Regis HS (NY) http://www.fiveborosports.com/multimedia/news_images/ChrisBates.jpg (Philip Hall) SCOUTING REPORT: Bates is a projectable lefty that doesn't throw particularly hard at this point in time, but continues to get better. He has good size, with long, loose proportions and an easy delivery with a few correctable mechanical concerns. His fastball at this point in time is thrown in the mid-to-upper 80s and he also mixes in a slurvy slow curve that also shows promise. Keeping him away from Richmond may be a little difficult, and don't be surprised if he does wind up in college if he's throwing considerably harder three years from now. NOTES & INFO: Born 3/20/1992 Verbally committed to Tulane University before changing commitment to Richmond University NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: New York Post: Regis' Bates part of the Brew Crew LoHud.com: Ossining resident Chris Bates was shocked by his Day 2 selectionFive Boro Sports: Regis rising senior to ride the Green Wave of TulaneNew York Post: A day in the life of Regis star Chris BatesNew York Post: "If Chris Bates is ever going to have a sensory overload, now's the time."
  4. ROUND 11: Andre Lamontagne - RHP - SIGNED 6'4", 215, R/R, Oral Roberts University (Oklahoma) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/andrew_lamontagne.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Lamontagne has always had a good profile. He is built tall and strong with long limbs and has good stuff. He can run his fastball up to 95 mph, and works comfortably in the low-90s. He has also shown a good cutter that acts as a slider, and this year has started to show more confidence in his changeup. Prior to this year he struggled with control, which forced him to leave his fastball, which doesn't have much movement, down the center of the plate leading to him getting hit hard. This year he worked harder on taking a little off of his stuff to improve his command. He still has work to do, but has the talent to be a sleeper if he's able to put everything together as a pro. NOTES & INFO: Born March 24, 1986 First Team All-Summit League selection in 2009 Spent two seasons at Long Beach State before transferring to ORU Made 16 appearances in 2009 (13 starts)...went 6-2 with a 2.97 ERA; 72 strikeouts and 36 walks in 75.2 IP. 5. ROUND 11: Greg Holle - RHP 6'8", 220, R/R, Texas Christian University http://images.townnews.com/troyrecord.com/content/articles/2010/07/10/sports/doc4c391d712677b515601732.jpg SCOUTING REPORT: Holle is an athletic, bid-bodied right-hander who has more polish than power, which is not what you may expect from a 6-foot-8, 225-pound pitcher. In high school he thrived as both a pitcher and as a hitter, drawing some comparisons to Richie Sexson as a slugger. On the mound he pitches in the upper-80s to low 90s and mixes in a solid curveball and changeup. He made an immediate impression as a freshman, making 14 starts, but has been used as both a starter and as a reliever the last two years. However, he likely would have started more for TCU had he not been a part of a very talented pitching staff. His mechanics can get out of whack, and overall was rather hittable at the college level. Pitching to contact may suit him better throwing to hitters swinging wood bats. NOTES & INFO: Born 11/16/1988. Drafted by New York Yankees in 35th round of 2007 draft. In 14 G/5 GS: 29.2 IP, 40 H, 33 R, 28 ER, 7 BB, 2 HBP, 34 K, 4 HR (8.49 ERA). 6. ROUND 6: Hiram Burgos - RHP - SIGNED 6'0", 205, R/R, Bethune-Cookman University (Florida) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/hiram_burgos.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Burgos doesn't win too many observers over for his short yet compactly strong frame, or for his stuff, as he tops out in the low-90s. However, he does win people over with an absolutely fearless and tenacious approach on the mound. He never gives into a situation, and has never faced a situation that he has back down from. He opened the season vs. Stephen Strasburg and San Diego State as part of the MLB Urban Youth Academy classic in San Diego, and recently shut down perennial powerhouse Miami over six innings of work. He typically pitches in the upper-80s, and has a good, not great, three pitch mix. His approach allows him to strike out more batters than his stuff would normally dictate, but that also causes him to get hit hard as he challenges batters more often than most. NOTES & INFO: Born August 4, 1987 in Cayey, Puerto Rico 2008 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year 2009 Second Team All-MEAC selection NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Bethune-Cookman player profile Brewers take Burgos in sixth round 7 area players drafted
  7. ROUND 7: Khristopher Davis - OF - SIGNED 6'0", 195, R/R, Cal State-Fullerton (California) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/khris_davis.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Davis arrived at Cal State Fullerton with pretty big expectations. He was a talented two-way star in high school that was considered to be a potential early round pick, and it was thought that he would make immediate contributions in the Titans' lineup and possibly on the mound as well. He never took the mound for Fullerton, and he also struggled during both of his freshman and sophomore years. He made some key adjustments this season, particularly toning down his swing with two strikes, and had a big season at the plate for the Titans, drastically improving his draft stock. He is a toolsy outfielder with big power potential, but an average at best arm will limit him to left field. He has an equally big swing, and will need to continue to do a better job managing the strike zone and shortening his swing when he needs to. He's a very good athlete overall with good speed, and profiles in a similar fashion to former big-leaguer Ron Gant. 8. ROUND 8: Chad Stang - OF 6'2", 180, R/R, Midland College (Texas) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/chad_stang.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Stang is a tall and wiry strong athlete built similar to Hunter Pence. He has similar tools to Pence as well, with an unorthodox approach and an interesting blend of power and speed. He enjoyed a fine season at the plate this past spring, hitting .370 with 12 doubles, five triples and six home runs. He also showed a disciplined eye, walking 29 times in 173 at-bats. He has committed to play for LSU for the 2009-10 calendar year, but being selected this high he likely signs with the Brewers. 9. ROUND 9: Jonathan Pokorny - LHP - SIGNED 6'2", 220, R/L, Kent State University (Ohio) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/jon_pokorny.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Pokorny is a lefty that was used predominantly as a reliever during his college career at Kent State, splitting time in the closer role the past two years, although he made eight starts last summer for the Alaska Goldpanners in the Alaskan Collegiate League. He has a knack for missing bats, with 124 strikeouts in just over 97 career innings of work, allowing only six home runs in that time. With only 97 college innings under his belt, his arm has relatively low miles on it, and could move quickly through the lower levels of the minor leagues if he continues to be groomed as a starter. Similar to Steve Hammond a few years ago, the Brewers may opt to try him as a starter, as he has a decent three-pitcher reportoire, including a upper-80s fastball that has touched the low-90s, to succeed in such a role. NOTES & INFO: Born April 4, 1988 Named Second Team All-MAC as a reliever in 2009 Made 22 appearances for Kent State in 2009, including one start...went 5-2 with a 2.25 ERA NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: MLB.com scouting video Kent State player profile SportingNews.com blog Five Flashes drafted

He shows good footwork behind the plate, sets up well, and calls a good game. With a strong, athletic build, he also shows power in his swing, although his offensive game overall needs some work. There is potential there to get better at the plate, but he's going to need plenty of reps in the minors to get there. NOTES & INFO: Born October 25, 1990 Hit .584 as a senior with 13 home runs and 51 RBI Committed to Meridian Community College NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: Perfect Game showcase profile MLB.com scouting video Jones County's Roberts set for baseball draft Patience pays off for Jones County standout Tyler Roberts Roberts drafted by Brewers
  11. He originally committed to Arkansas, but ended up going to Walters State for a year before transferring to Tennessee for his sophomore and junior years. He is a polished left-handed hitter, showing a very keen eye with a smooth stroke and advanced hitting mechanics. He has shown quite a bit of power in each of his three years in college, hitting 59 home runs those three years. He didn't hit as well this year (.327) as he did a year ago (.364), but was considered one of the better pure hitters available this year. There isn't much past the hit tool, and his future likely lies at first base or possibly left field. ROUND 7: Joel Pierce - RHP 6'4", 185, L/R, Vincent Massey SS (ON) http://www.windsorstar.com/sports/3378674.bin (Jason Kryk/The Windsor Star) SCOUTING REPORT: Pierce is a live-armed Canadian prep player that continues to add velocity to his fastball as his body continues to mature. His fastball started to top out more regularly in the low-90s this spring after sitting in the 88-90 range last summer and fall, as he has added an inch to his frame and could top out in the 6-foot-5, 210-pound range when he's done growing. He also continues to make very good strides with his slider. He excelled pitching for the Canadian Junior National team in the Dominican Republic in the weeks leading up to the draft. A former two-way prospect as a strong-armed third baseman, he started to focus on pitching in the past year with encouraging results. He appeared in 52 innings as a freshman, mostly out of the bullpen, 83 a year ago and a team-leading 88 this past year. For as reliable as he has been, he doesn't have the stuff the profile as a staff ace, even at the college level. He's a good athlete with an easy delivery and decent stuff, including a low-90s fastball that shows some sink and a slider that projects to be a solid big-league pitch. NOTES & INFO: Born 8/12/1988. Despite his listed 6-foot-2 size, there are reports that he may be as tall as 6-foot-4, and even with that size he shows very good defensive tools. He plays the shortstop position easily, with a strong arm, soft hands and excellent range. He shows the ability to make the highlight play as well as the routine one, without much concern about a change of position. How he progresses offensively centers around how much he gets stronger over the next few years. He has the frame to do so, but presently is rail thin, and will need time to mature and develop. 15. He has posted impressive numbers at the plate each of his three years at New Mexico, and added power to his game during his junior season by shortening his stroke and driving inside pitching to left field. He has modest potential at the plate with a contact approach and gap power. He has displayed strong catch-and throw skills with a strong arm and good quickness behind the plate, but like many amateur backstops has a few things to work on defensively at the next level. 16. ROUND 3: Joshua Prince - SS - SIGNED 6'0", 195, R/R, Tulane (Louisiana) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/josh_prince.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Prince was one of the top prospects last summer playing for the Green Bay Bullfrogs in the Northwoods League, and recorded the fastest 60-yard dash time as part of the league's all-star game's pre-game scouting event, clocking in at 6.60 seconds. He has solid tools across the board, with bat speed, defense and some power to go along with his larger shortstop build. Despite his size, he moves well at the shortstop position, and is the type of athlete that makes everything he does look easy, gracefully moving to both his right and left. He started his college career at Texas before transferring to Tulane for his sophomore year, and was originally lauded by the Longhorns for his defensive prowess. There has always been promise in his bat, and he started to show that promise last summer in the Northwoods League, leading the league in triples while crushing a home run in the all-star game, and has continued that success during his junior year, ranking among the national leaders in stolen bases. His bat is still in question, and while he has good tools across the board, none are great. 17. ROUND 4: Brooks Hall - RHP - SIGNED 6'5", 200, R/R, T.L. Hanna High School (South Carolina) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/brooks_hall.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Hall is a tall and projectable right-handed pitcher who is just starting to scratch the surface of his potential. He has spent the first few years in high school known more for his abilities as a shortstop/third baseman, with good athleticism for his size, a strong arm and interesting potential at the plate. If he honors his commitment to South Carolina, he likely would be used both as a hitter and as a pitcher, but at the pro level he will continued to be groomed on the mound. His velocity continues to get better, going from the 88-91 range last year to sitting in the low-90s this year touching 95 frequently. He also has an improving slider and a changeup, giving him three solid pitches. His arm action is incredibly loose, and he throws the ball effortlessly, meaning he should be able to maintain his improved velocity as his body continues to fill out and also deep in ballgames. His fastball also shows very good natural late movement to it, and despite being shut down this spring due to some tightness in his forearm, which probably isn't a reason for concern if the Brewers drafted him in the fourth round, his mechanics are considered clean. 18. ROUND 5: D'Vontrey Richardson - RF - SIGNED 6'1", 210, R/R, Florida State University (Florida) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/dvontrey_richardson.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Richardson is a superb overall athlete, similar to current Brewers farmhand Brent Brewer. He oozes with tools, with a great combination of speed, power potential and arm strength. His time on the baseball field has been limited given his two-sport career, serving as the backup quarterback for the Seminoles. He did play during his freshman year, and started his junior year with regular playing time. After starting the year slow, his playing time diminished, but the talent is there for him to succeed with regular playing time in the minor leagues. He profiles as a centerfielder with the speed to cover a lot of ground in the outfield with more than enough arm to handle right field if needed. With good bat speed and natural strength, he could also be a force at the plate, and a threat on the basepaths. With any two-sport star that hasn't fully committed to baseball, he will need plenty of time to refine his game, as his overall potential is nearly limitless, but it's matter of him putting it all together. NOTES & INFO: Born July 30, 1988 Also played football for the Seminoles (quarterback) Posted a .351 average and .481 slugging percentage in 131 at-bats in 2007 (first full year of baseball) Missed 2008 season due to academic issues Hit .304 for FSU in 2009, starting 22 games Reportedly ran 6.2 60-yard dash for Brewers scouts NEWSPAPER AND WEB COVERAGE: MLB.com scouting video D'Vontrey Richardson returns to baseball, which may be bad news for FSU football fans Brewers Make Florida State QB a Surprise Draft Pick Perfect Game showcase profile D'Vo close to leaving football team

ROUND 3: Tyler Thornburg - RHP 5'11", 185, R/R, Charleston Southern University http://www.baseballrumormill.com/images/gallery/tyler-thornburg-delivers_184x276.jpg SCOUTING REPORT: Thornburg evokes some comparisons to Tim Lincecum thanks to a smallish build, unconventional mechanics and an exaggerated delivery. He comes straight over the top, and pitches consistently in the low-90s with the ability to touch 95, and on a few occasions, 96-97. He also throws a very sharp overhand curve that that is a true swing-and-miss pitch. While he has spent some time as a starter as Charleston Southern, many believe his future lies in short relief, a role he is familiar with haven been used as his team's closer in the past. He served that same role that past two summers playing for the Cape and Valley Leagues, registering eight and 10 saves respectively. NOTES & INFO: Born 9/29/1988. 20. ROUND 4: Hunter Morris - 1B 6'2", 210, L/R, Auburn University http://i.tsn.com/i/photos/20100413/140651.jpg SCOUTING REPORT: Morris turned down a significant bonus from the Boston Red Sox as a second round pick in the 2007 draft to honor his commitment to Auburn. He didn't miss a beat, hitting .351 with 11 bombs on his way to being named the SEC freshman of the year. He followed that up by winning a roster spot with Team USA, although he didn't hit particularly well that summer. He also didn't hit as well during his sophomore year, but still proved to be a natural run producer for the historically strong Tigers offense. After launching eight home runs on the Cape last summer he entered this spring as one of the best power prospects not named Bryce Harper available for this year's draft. He responded with a huge junior season hitting .386 with 23 home runs on his way to being named the SEC player of the year, although he has been prone to strikeouts during his college career. His big, powerful left-handed swing matches his build, but he has also exhibited a patient eye at the plate. As good as his bat is, his glove makes him somewhat of a liability in the field. He doesn't have much range, and overall needs to commit himself to defense to avoid becoming a one-dimensional player. His bat is good enough to overcome such problems, and he's a good enough athlete to improve is he makes it a bigger priority. NOTES & INFO: Born 10/7/1988. 2010 SEC Player of the Year. He pumps his fastball consistently into the low-90s with arm-side run, peaking around 94, and also throws a quality slider that reaches the low-80s. He returned to a versatile swing role for the Wolverines this spring, somewhat out of necessity, and didn't fare quite as well as a starter. The biggest problem is the need for improved command, as he's always walked a lot of batters and seems to perform better when he doesn't have to pace himself. As enticing as it is to try and maximize his potential as a starter, his fearless approach may make him a perfect fit for a short relief role at the next level. NOTES & INFO: Born 1/30/1989. 22. ROUND 2a: Maxwell Walla - RF - SIGNED 5'11", 195, L/L, Albuquerque Academy (New Mexico) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/max_walla.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Walla is a shorter, compact athlete that has an exciting combination of a power arm and a power bat. While he led his team to the state championship as both a pitcher and as a hitter, his future as a pro lies as a hitter. He employs a short, compact stroke to muscle balls to right field, with good loft to his swing. His power comes thanks to very good hand-eye coordination and strong hands and wrists. While he doesn't have the same kind of speed, his size and potential at the plate makes him somewhat of a similar prospect to Kentrail Davis, both shorter yet powerful left-handed hitters that continually put up big numbers at the plate. His prowess as a left-handed pitcher means he has a very good outfield, making him a perfect fit for right field. His offensive promise, thanks to his power, is higher than Caleb Gindl and Erik Komatsu, but overall he profiles in a similar fashion. 23. ROUND 2b: Cameron Garfield - C- SIGNED 6'0", 192, R/R, Murrieta Valley High School (California) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/cameron_garfield.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Garfield is an exciting catching prospect which promise both offensively and defensively. He excels at certain parts of his game, showing good quickness behind the plate and overall technique, but inconsistent reports have arose about his throwing arm and accuracy. He has a quick release, and plenty of experience behind the plate, catching some of the best players in the nation participating in notable showcase events and playing for Team USA last summer. At the plate he has impressive power potential, but it remains to be seen how well he will hit for average. He has good bat speed and extension, but his swing can get long at times. His bat and defense are pretty much where you would expect them to be for a high school player, giving the Brewers plenty of time and patience to develop both. Like most catchers, he isn't the most fleet afoot on the basepaths. 24. ROUND 2: Jimmy Nelson - RHP6'6", 240, R/R, University of Alabama http://images.onset.freedom.com/wemcvarsity/l3pnbz-l3pnbgjimmynelsonwebactionpic2.jpg (AP Photo/John Amis) SCOUTING REPORT: Armed with an impressive one-two punch, with an upper-80s to low-90s fastball as well as a nasty slider, Nelson has had no problem missing bats during his career. Prior to this season, he bounced between the bullpen and the starting staff in his first two years at Alabama due to inconsistent results, but thrived in his two summers in between. He opened the 2009 season as the team’s closer, but was quickly removed from that role after blowing three saves early in the SEC conference schedule. He was inserted as the team's Saturday starter to open this year and has thrived, tossing three consecutive complete games towards the end of the season. He doesn't throw particularly hard, but he maintains his velocity well deep into games and keeps the ball down in the zone. His slider is his best pitch, and it is thrown with the exact same arm angle and speed as his fastball, making it that much more difficult to pick up. Nelson has a large and athletic, sturdy frame, clean mechanics and his arm is relatively fresh. NOTES & INFO: Born 6/5/1989. Drafted by Cincinnati in 39th round of 2007 draft. 25. ROUND 1S-b: Kyle Heckathorn - RHP- SIGNED 6'6", 240, R/R, Kennesaw State University (Georgia) http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y155/colbyjack/kyle_heckahtorn.jpg BREWERFAN.NET SCOUTING REPORT: Heckathorn is built tall and stronger, taller and thicker than Eric Arnett, although his delivery isn't as smooth. You can pretty much guess what kind of pitcher he is just by looking at him, as he's all about power. His fastball has touched 99 in the past, and he has worked comfortably in the mid-90s as a starter during his career at Kennesaw State. This year he has tried his best to improve his fastball command, which caused him to sacrifice some velocity, working more in the upper-80s to low-90s. The same can be said for his slider, a true power pitch that he can throw in the upper-80s, but a pitch that he commands better in the low-80s. Whether or not he can find that happy balance remains to be seen, but clearly the Brewers are excited about his power arm and body to take him so early in the draft, as few pitchers eligible for the 2009 draft have Heckathorn's upside. Many have him pegged for the bullpen as a prototypical late-game, short-inning reliever in the mold of Jonathan Broxton.
