You have to go all the way to Page #4 of the Major League Forum to find the "what vlaue does Yuni bring to the club" thread. Thats where I like it. He has been crazy good since the all star break
If Lopez continues to be mediocre I think Hairston will start getting some starts at 2nd; but by then Weeks might be back anyways. I don't think RR has any intention of using Hairston at SS or 3B unless it is an emeregency or a double switch situation late in the game. The lineup is pretty weak, but I still like Grienke vs this Astros lineup. You really only have worry about 3 guys and they really aren't all that good (Lee, Martinez, and Frenchie). Better to start guys like Counsell and Kotsay against Houston than against a good team like the Cards. Kotsay has started 2 times in the last 2 weeks; I guess I don't have that big of a deal if he gets a start a week. It probably makes sense to give Counsell the start against a somewhat tough righty in Norris. McGehee hasn't had a good series anyways. If you have to go with this starting 9 I at least would have moved up Lucroy a couple spots (him and Yuni at 5/6 would be fine with me)
We'll miss Garcia & Carpenter in STL; I have to believe that boosts are odds of winning that series. Lohse, Jackson, and Westbrook just don't scare me all that much. I suppose LaRussa could skip Lohse though since he has been struggling so much. As long as we win today and don't get swept in STL we will have at least a 2 game lead coming home to face a struggling PIT team and a so-so Dodger team. STL isn't exactly hard though either. Our schedule gets really easy until we play the Cards at the end of the month but there are plenty of teams that we could lose to if we don't play well (Specifically thinking of the Dodgers and Mets) It seems like the Brewers have been playing pretty solid road ball for the last month; they just dug themselves a huge hole early in the year during interleague and the Astros/Braves/Cardinals trip.
Narveson makes me so frickin nervous. He just randomly loses control all the time. For a 5th starter he has been pretty good but I wouldn't be opposed to skipping over him when off days allow
Thats just another reason that the Crew should hope to plat ATL, ARI, or SFG in the Divisional round while someone else knocks off the Phils. The other teams have very right hand dominated pitching (I know IF we make the playoffs)
Counsell does have some value for his defense but if we are in the World Series and need a hit to force a Game #7 Counsell is probably just about the last person I want to count on to get a hit. I would rather have every member of the starting rotation get a shot first.
Frankly I don't really care how he does; I would do that trade again in a second; Marcum has been a godsend. Toronto potentially has a pretty nice core of players with Bautista, Lawrie, Rasmus, Arencibia, etc
Yeah I don't get the Packers thing either; we have had our fair share of showboats over the years (Nick Barnett anyone) and I don't remember any specific instances where someone in the Packers organization went all LaRussa on someone (Maybe the Moss mooning incident?)
Personally I would love Fangraphs to pick up on the story and gloriously debunk that guys wacked out statistics. Also I was thinking about this yesterday; the two pitches on Pujols and Braun were very very close to the exact same location. The only difference is that Pujols hands were hanging out over the plate and that Braun was able to turn his back to the pitch. If Braun didn't turn his back he probably gets hit in the hands or the ribs. As it was Braun got hit in the shoulder; its not like they hit him in the rump. So apparently it isn't OK to incidentally pitch up and in to a guy that crowds the plate and is to slow to get out of the way but it is OK to intentionally hit a guy up and in who is athletic enough to defect the blow. Makes sense to me
Yeah I don't really get this; their bullpen can't really be that bad that he is sending him out again after 100 pitches and 9 runs. Its like he is trying to kill his new toy
