  1. ERA is now really close to 4.0. I was really an idiot for questioning the guy a couple months ago. Would love to sign ZG to an extension.
  2. Why is everyone so sure that Green or Gamel could excel in Kotsay's role. Sure they are having great seasons at AAA while palying every day but that is quite different than getting 5-7 at bats a week in MLB while also many times facing very tough relievers. Its not that I think they couldn't do it; but its comparing apples and oranges and at this point in the season I don't know that the Brewers have the luxury of letting them sink or swim. I mean how would any of the regulars fare in a pinch hitting role like Kotsay? Personally outside of Braun I think they would all suck at it. I just don't think it is as easy as bringing up your best everyday AAA players, cutting the veterans, and all of a sudden our bench will be world beaters
  3. Agreed we didn't have anyone even in camp that I would feel comfortable in Kotsay's spot right now. It would be ridiculous to have Green and Gamel in his spot. Dickerson, Boggs? No Thanks. Sure we could have traded from some hypothetical left handed bat I suppose but that is a whole other argument. Kotsay arguable is the best possible late inning pinch hitter that we had on the team heading into spring training. You could have tried a minor leaguer; but then you take the risk of another Brad Nelson
  4. I think the goal really should be the next homestand. I would absolutely put Rickie back at #5. McGehee more often than not has still been pretty underwhelming there. I like Hart/Morgan at the top.
  5. They have a couple top of the rotation guys in the minors; Shelby and another guy (can't rememember the name) It will be interesting to see what their team looks like next year; Pujols, Berkman, Carpenter, Jackson etc all have the potential to leave. Wainright will be coming back from TJ. If they lose both Berkman and Pujols they are going to be awful (Unless they sign Fielder, Beltran, Reyes Etc)
  6. If things keep going like this we might clinch the #2 spot with a week or so to spare; We might phone it in the last week with replacement players and lose a bit. I think the team tops out at 96-97 for that reason.
  7. Ron Dayne (In Camp Randall Crowd Voice)
  8. Yeah I'll be curious to see who messed up the sign with Yuni up. I hope Prince mistakenly thought the squeeze was on; because a squeeze with Yuni up and Prince at 3rd is just about the worst possible combination of players to call a squeeze play for. RR has gotten a little squeeze happy, that has got to be 4 or 5 times we've tried it now and I believe it has worked twice. Be happy it has worked at all and just retire the idea right now.
  9. And how close they were to making it 19 of 20 with a 14 game winning streak in there. If only Furcal would have tripped on a shoelace or something
  10. I am a little concerned about the lack of offense the last couple 4 games or so. Only 8 runs in 4 games; of course we only gave up 2 runs during that same stretch. I am sure the offense will turn it around again.
  11. Johnny Estrada deserves a temporary ban hammer
  12. I am loving this but it is a little concerning that we aren't scoring at all. Obviously the pitching is awesome but the offense has gotten into a funk. So I guess it is a positive that we keep winning despite no offense to speak of.
  13. I am cheering for the Phils in the series with the D backs. Get as many games as possible between the Brewers and the NL West Leaders. D-Backs refuse to go away though, Overbay fresh off the waiver wire beats Halladay in the 9th
  14. But why wouldn't you want homefield advantage throughout the playoffs? Just because past #1's have chocked is no reason not to want the #1 spot. I don't think recent history means anything in this case; Philly is far and away the best team in the NL; one of the most dominant NL teams in the last decade. I don't think Philly is sweating the fact that #1 seeds haven't fared so well recently. Given the Brewers home record; getting as many home games in the playoffs as possible is huge.
  15. So we signed both Jungmann and Bradley with about 5 minutes to spare. Nice. (According to JS Online article)
  16. I don't know starting Randy Wolf in Game #1 against ATL to make sure he gets 2 starts seems pretty ridiculous to me. Not Jeff Suppan Game #4 starter stupid; but still pretty stupid. I don't care what the splits look like; in a 5 game series you absolutely throw your Top #3 starters first; you just don't play starter pitcher matchups.
  17. I think the Pirates have a better chance of catching us than we do catching the Phils. The Phillies are really really good. I know the Brewers could always beat them in a series; but it makes me a little depressed to think this is probably the best Brewers team of my lifetime and they will have to beat Lee, Halladay, and Hamels to make it to the World Series. Stupid Phillies and their giant payroll.
  18. So what happens if their is a NLCS or World Series game the same time as a Packer game? Would they really bump the Brewers or do they still not have a choice? Ratings would probably still be higher for the Packers which is a damn shame. Thankfully I get to watch most of the games so it doesn't bother me too much what radio station is broadcasting what. Its not nearly as annoying as getting a Bucks game early in the season instead of a Brewers game when the Bucks are terrible.
  19. Yeah this is the best stretch of baseball since I became a fan (2001 Season). Yeah don't ask me why I decided to become a fan that season. I keep waiting for this team to slow down with a series of gut wrenching losses and it just hasn't happened. At least now since we are up 6 games; I don't need to hang on every win or loss. They haven't been scoring a lot of runs lately; this streak has all to do with the pitching. Just amazing to compare this year's staff to last.
  20. When things are going good they go really really good. This team can do no wrong right now
  21. RR was a rookie manager who I am sure came in thinking there was an exact way to do things. As the year has gone it seems like he has adapted quite nicely. He still occasionaly makes a mistake but I think he has come around with his game management. I think he does an excellent job managing the roster and getting playing time for the bench guys that he has to rely on late in games. In a perfect world his pinch hit options wouldn't be Kotsay, Counsell, Wilson, and Hairston/Lopez but he has handled the chips he does have pretty well.
  22. Both MIL and STL have 41 games left. IF the Brewers go only 20-21 (Against pretty poor competition) the Cardinals will still have to go 26-15 just to tie or 27-14 to win. If they don't take at least 4 of 6 agaisnt MIL I don't think they have much of a chance. If the Brewers can go 24-17 the rest of the way the Cardinals would have the near impossible task of going 30-11 to tie. I am of the opinion that the Cards simply aren't good enough to go more than 26-15 the rest of the way; so long as the Brewers go .500 or better we won't have to worry about the wild card. If for some reason they do pass us while we go 20-21; 90 wins might be in the ball park for the WIld Card. Of course if the Brewers flame out and go 17-24 or something then we deserve to miss the playoffs.
  23. The Dodgers series scares me. They are not having a good year but there is still a ton of talent on the team. Atleast we will miss Kuroda. Brewers have to keep playing well; Dodgers are a better team than the Astros or Pirates
  24. Marlins sentLogan Morrison to AAA today; what a completely inept organization. Morrison has an OPS near .800 as a 23 year old. And we thought sending Hardy down was questionable. If there was ever a transaction that the MLBPA should file a greivance on it is this one. He has been one of the best players on a pretty crappy team
