  1. I agree with that sentiment, but only because in order to hold down a rotation spot on a major league franchise for the 15-20 years necessary to reach 300 wins, you have to be pretty darn good. So for a career, I think it can be an effective benchmark. Season to season? No.

  5. He said that while he likes the Brewers, he doesn't think Sheets qualifies as a ace because he's never won more than 12 games, and that's the difference. I just registered FireSteveStone.com (kidding) Seriously though, I wish he would have made this claim in print instead of on a radio show so I could submit it to FJM.
  6. I won't say that I don't see where you're coming from, DOA.... but I would think Mark A. recognizes that our "tailgating culture" is very important to a lot of Brewers fans. For a lot of us it is intertwined with the gameday experience and part of the reason we like coming to Miller Park so much. We realize that it's something that makes us unique among MLB franchises - as it has been pointed out elsewhere, not a lot of other ballparks have the huge parking lots that cater to tailgaters. You would also have to concede that this was a factor in the decision to build Miller Park where it is rather than the proposed downtown location. To me this would be a very nice gesture by ownership, a "thank you" of sorts.....ensuring that their guests have the best time possible and want to come back often. There's nothing wrong with incurring some limited expense in order to generate goodwill.
  7. It's funny that you chose to rail against the word "sellout", because I think this is the best description of our problem with Nickelback: from Reel Big Fish Well, I know you can't work in fast food all your life But don't sign that paper tonight, she said, but it's too late. I don't remember what I read, I don't remember what they said, I guess it doesn't matter, I guess it doesn't matter anymore 'Cause you're gonna go to the record store You're gonna give'em all your money Radio plays what they want you to hear They tell me it's cool but I just don't believe it... Sell out, with me oh yea, sell out, with me tonight Record company's gonna give me lots of money And everything's gonna be all right No more flippin' burgers puttin' on my silly hat You know I don't want that no more, I didn't ask when we'd get paid, I quit my day job anyway, I guess it doesn't matter, I guess it doesn't matter anymore You're gonna go to the record store, You're gonna give'em all your money, Radio plays what they want you to hear, They tell me it's cool, but i just don't believe it Sell out, with me oh yea, Sell out with me tonight, The record company's gonna give me lots of money And everything's gonna be I don't think it'll be so bad And I know it won't be so bad 'Cause the man said "that's the way it is" And the man said "it don't get better than this" no no no So I signed on to the record company, They say they're gonna give me lot's of money If i play what they want you to hear They tell me it's cool, and I sure believe it...
  8. LouisEly, the one that I've heard is "dropping the Cosby kids off at the pool".
  9. This definitely needs to be a YouTube thread.? You can file this one under the "things that get you pumped up" thread too.
  10. Wham!/George Michael Huey Lewis & The News - had a great conversation with a friend about how everyone's dad owned a copy of "Sports" when it came out, regardless of age or background. His dad is like 15 years older than mine, but they both mowed the lawn listening to that cassette tape.

  12. "I can't believe this. We sitting here talking about parking. Not the GAME....not how obscenely inexpensive it is to attend the GAME. We talking about parking." http://bp3.blogger.com/_lqd--I1h1qY/RyUPU_0hvSI/AAAAAAAAAAU/6cBKTspaJzc/S220/ThumbnailServer2.jpg
  13. Seconded. Also when they are showing the montage of the Indians reeling off all those wins to get back in the pennant race, peeling the stickers off the Rachel Phelps photo, etc. That synthesizer music fires me up. As South Park has proven, you gotta have a montage....
  14. In theory, I enjoy the NL-style of play, as it follows logic that every person who plays the field should also have to hit. In practical terms, though, I would rather just use the DH in both leagues. It's never going to go away because of the player's union, and I don't like the sport operating with 2 sets of rules. It also sucks when your the bottom of the order starts a rally and you watch it die as a man who has no business swinging a baseball bat flails aimlessly at 3 straight pitches. As for the league switch, I'm not sure where I stand. When I was growing up the Brewers were in the AL and I was a member of the Pepsi Brewers Fan Club, so many of my memories are of games against the Tigers, Indians, Twins, etc. I really miss those rivalries. At the same time, our new rivalries are beginning to flourish, and I think we have a better chance of staying competitive in the NL.
  15. Are you planning on getting cable? Do you know which regional sports network would come with the cable package? Because if they include Comcast Sports Chicago you wouldn't have to worry about missing any Brewers-Cubs games. Cardinals would still be a problem though. You would think that Peoria's cable would feature a sports net that broadcast the games of one of those teams.
  16. Highs in the 20's, 50% chance of snow showers, <1% chance of cruise missiles or suicide bombings. Enjoy Tel Aviv.
  17. Don't be an R.A. unless you're willing to turn a blind eye to non-dangerous* booze infractions. I'm thinking of the children here. * - if a kid is vomiting and unresponsive, by all means, call the authorities. But don't make people dump out an entire 1.75L of vodka because you caught a glimpse of it while passing by their room at 8 p.m. That's an easy way to turn an entire floor against you real quick.
  18. Another reward would be meeting the hot blonde that appears in the TV ads.
  19. A couple years ago I purchased a customized Prince Fielder jersey from MLB.com. It is the retro (pinstripe) model, and is authentic style (NOT replica). The size is 44. I have only worn/washed the item 2 times since purchase. It's just a tad small for me - wasn't sure about my size when I ordered it...I guessed 44 because I have a replica Red Sox Pedro jersey that is a 44 and fits me OK. This one is cut a little differently and is tighter around the midsection (read: beer gut) than my other jersey. In retrospect, I would have gotten a 46 or 48. And as you may know, MLB doesn't accept returns on customized product. Wanted to see if anyone has any interest in purchasing it from me. Like I mentioned above, it was only worn a couple of times and is in "like new" condition, no visible markings or stains. It does not have the 25th anniversary sleeve patch that the team wore last year, because I bought it prior to that. I figured something around $130 would be a fair price (retail was $200 + tax/shipping). I can tell you that the proceeds would be going directly towards purchasing another Brewers jersey for myself in a larger size. Any takers? If so, either post here or PM me. Thanks!
  20. OK, I have an idea but I don't know how to render it as a "design", so hopefully one of you graphically-inclined people can create a mock-up. Front of shirt: You Down With OBP? Back of shirt: Yeah You Know Me! Brewerfan.net Thoughts?
  21. My favorite too. I thought this was the best batting interface of all time, and part of the reason I like MLB Power Pros for Wii is that it's very similar to N64 Griffey. If only the AI on this game was a little better...even on the highest difficulty, I think I broke Hack Wilson's RBI record during a season with Carlos Delgado.
  22. 5) Once they push back from the gate, no cell phone use. The pilots need to communicate with air traffic control. So if they say no cell phones, how about people actually listen to them and follow the rules? I think it's ridiculous that the flight attendants have to tell people to shut off their phones after the announcement has been made over the loudspeaker. There's always a handful of nitwits that are still tapping away on their Blackberry, completely oblivious to how disrespectful they're being to both the crew and their fellow passengers. It reminds me of a bunch of 3rd graders being told by their teacher to put away their Game Boy during class. Unfortunately, you can't send airline passengers to detention (or can you?) Same thing with people that walk around in the cabin while the seatbelt sign is on. It better damn well be an emergency. Pathetic.
  23. I need to give a shout-out to Andrew Siciliano, the guy who hosts the Red Zone Channel on NFL Sunday Ticket. I only got to watch this channel once during the season (visiting my parents who have DirecTV) but I'm hooked now....not only is it fun to be able to bounce around to the most exciting games, but Andrew is legitimately funny and informative to boot.
  24. Was it wrong of me for holding out hope for "You Wreck Me" after "American Girl"?? I thought that playing "You Got Lucky" would have been a fitting tribute to the gambling community on its holiest of days, but alas...
