  1. The latter. A frustrated, emotional, pessimistic comment is at least reasonably understandable and easy to ignore. Multiple crabby, uptight responses along the lines of "get off my lawn!" and "how dare you think negative thoughts about my beloved Brewers!" is just maddening. Worse, the pessimists never come back and say "see, I told you the game was over" but the other side loves to do the reverse. Anyways, back to baseball. Let's go Soup and let's go offense. How about 7 or 8 runs tonight? You're all due....
  2. Didn't see this topic posted. Randolph banned 1 game, fined I don't really understand the 1-game suspension. Did he somehow come in contact with the homeplate umpire from the bench? (I missed the game. Did he come out of the dugout and get on the ump and bump him?)
  3. I didn't see any of the game, but watching the clip just now, I just can't get up in arms about the call. DiFelice missed his spot badly and Jason Kendall was sitting on the ground when he caught it. That combination of events made the pitch look up and maybe inside, to me. (And maybe it was? You'd need an overhead camera and a camera from the side to determine that it was over the plate and not high.) If it was just the awkward way Kendall caught it, Welke should be better than that, but you see it all the time. You hate for the batter to be rewarded for being cowardly and taking such a close pitch, but an honest interpretation from watching the clip was that the call could have gone either way.
  4. Will we have enough guys tomorrow? Thursdays before the 4th of July weekend has been a little rough in the past, sometimes leading to cancellations. IN 01 Valpo 02 Houle 03 Beeks 04 Tim 05 Dan 06 Zach 07 Brent 08 Juddy 09 Radman 10 Happy OUT Razzzor Erin Jamie
  5. Nothing wastes a solid offensive day against an ace pitcher for a win quite like being blanked by Mike bloody Pelfrey for a loss in a one-run game the next day. Monumentally disappointing offensive showing. In hindsight, this should have been easily predictable, I guess.
  6. 2-0 Mets thanks to a BP fastball to Wright. I was NOT saying Boo-urns.
  7. 1 vs NYM (1-0) 4 @ CHC (1-3) 3 vs STL (1-2) 3 vs LAD (1-2) 4 @ CIN (1-3) 3 @ PIT (2-1) 3 vs ATL (2-1) 4 vs WSH (2-2) 1 @ SD (1-0) 12 - 14 Braun + Fielder = 8, Hoff = 8, total = 16
  8. Baseball Reference had JJ's line as 220/ 294/ 340/ 634 coming into tonight. ESPN.com has JJ's current season stats as 232/ 307/ 370/ 677. So... +12/ +13/ +30/ +43 Nothing like tacking on 43 points to your OPS in a night in late June!
  9. We are blowing through way too many pitchers in this game....
  10. Actually, I blame Braun for not being able to hit a Dessens fastball far enough into the outfield to get the runner in from third. Weak piece of htting by Ryan. And now the double plays and wasted opportunities are coming back to haunt us. Wonderful work, Brewers. Every aspect of this Mets team tonight is Junior Varsity, and we've got a one run game on our hands at home. SCORE MORE RUNS, PLEASE.
  11. Completely non-chalant and unaccaptable. Get bent McGehee. That's about as awful as it gets.
  12. This team is awesome.... ....at wasting golden opportinunities. BOO.
  13. +1. This was my first thought, too. When he gets back, just try to fast track him as a closer or 8th inning guy. Grooming him into a MLB ready starter will take longer than we'd want to wait with this ticking timebomb. Get him up before it's too late.
  14. AKA, little Sam Weir (from Freaks and Geeks) all grows up. Maybe we should use this thread to document every movie reference used on the scoreboard at MP: Waiting, Napoleon Dynamite, Big Lebowski, Hoosiers, Animal House, ???. Pretty great list. Or, to discuss which other movie scenes would be great to use for various situations....
  15. Couldn't the delay be due to the "honeymoon" of having the great new facility needing to wear off a bit first? Like, you build a new house and you're ecstatic about it, but you soon realize you hate the carpeting and wish you'd done hardwood floors. At first, you shrug it off that not all things can be perfect and it seems like an overreaction to jump on it and make such a dramatic change. Six, seven, eight years later after it's been gnawing at you that whole time, you'd probably begin to think more seriously about finally making it "perfect".
  16. The absolutely awful play in June continues. Mediocre ~.500 teams, facing mediocre pitching, much of it at home!, and we can't even rise to the meager challenge. Just pathetic baseball for four straight weeks now. Utterly disappointing. We look nothing like trade deadline buyers right now....
  17. The game is far from over, and that post toes the line of the "game over" rules we have for IGTs. The Twins getting two runs back is discouraging, but IGTs aren't designed to be vent threads.bklyn's post isn't a useless or over-the-top vent, it's a 100% IGT-worthy reaction to the game being played.
  18. Gotta love improving in the standings while idle. Thanks NL East! Braves 2 - Cubs 0 (Final) Mets 6 - Cardinals 4 (Final)
  19. Not fair... a 1-5 homestand against two very mediocre teams is barely a week old. It was nice to pick up three hard-fought wins in between there, but we gave up an average 8+ runs a game in that series. It's been a very rough month so far, losing almost 2 games for every 1 win. Parra going down makes the SP situation look pretty bleak. In my opinion, it'd be too early to pull the trigger on anything, but it's not a bad idea to start thinking about how selling might set us up better for the next few years.
  20. Unbelievable job by Stetter! I did not feel a win late in this one, but they pulled it out. Wow. Now rest the bullpen, get Braun and McGehee healthy, and carry this momentum into Detroit.
  21. That blown call at second was one of the worst I've ever seen. And of course it had to come factor into the score.... Infuriating.
