  2. I believe in bigfoots. The USA is not as explored as you might think.
  3. Average SS vs. Below Average 2B = Big Difference It seems like people are talking about 2 different things -- 1.) If you are comparing strictly JJ Hardy v. Weeks strictly against each other -- like if they both played 2b, or both played SS -- I think Hardy is worlds better. 2.) If you are comparing Hardy and Weeks v. other players at their respective positions -- I suspect it is pretty close. I think Hardy is an average SS, and Weeks is a bit below average.
  4. I would have thought Cameron's D would have been higher.
  5. Hi all. I know from time to time BF.net has flexed its muscles and changed the course of history by significantly altering online voting contests. A kid I know, from our local HS ran for ~300 yds, over the decidedly pro-Cubs Hustiford Fukudomes. Rio has not had a lot of FB success in the last three decades. If you feel so inclined cast a vote for young Mr. Selje... Thanks! Vote Here Matt Selje, Sr., Rio - Quick, what were you doing in 1969? For many of us, we weren't even born yet. For the community of Rio, WI it was the last time their high school football team won a conference championship. That 39 year drought was snapped on the shoulders of senior running back Matt Selje. He ran for 296 yards and 3 touchdowns on 34 carries to give the Vikings at least a share of the conference crown, keep them undefeated, and carrying positive momentum into the playoffs.

  7. Regardless, I'm thrilled. This has the potential to be awesome! Agreed -- I like what the NFL Network has done so far. I am sure it will surpass anything ESPN can or will do. I'm confused by this. They are having a network devoted to baseball and they are showing 26 out of 2430 regular season games? Wouldn't you think they could show a bit more than 1 game a week? The NFL Network shows 0 games a week (usually) with perhaps a game or two near the end of the year IIRC. I'd be happy if on Tuesday they showed condensed versions of Monday's games, so you could see a pitcher pitch or something like that.
  8. The problem with moving Weeks to CF, is who do you replace him with? -- I don't consider either Escobar, Dillon or Counsell to be options -- Looking at only the offense -- replacing Cameron with Weeks is a downgrade. If we brought Durham in as a stopgap for a year, Durham's bat would effectively replace Cameron's bat. I think in doing this, we could save a little money, but our overall D would probably take a hit, but I think offensively we would be OK, especially if Weeks improved.
  9. I think of Upton...a toolsy underachieving infielder whose offensive and defensive results failed to match his potential. I disagree - Last year at the age of 22 he posted an impressive ~.900 OPS. This year at the age of 23 he hit a ~.784 with a .383 OBP. I think he could do better, but I think he is well on his way. Yet moving him to CF and his offense has improved while showing off his great speed and strong arm. I tend to think his overall improvement has to do with starting as a 19 year old and simply getting older. Upton has played 3b, 2b, LF, CF, SS in his short career. He only has played ~50 games at 2b, and was probably only a backup at SS and 3b on some pretty bad teams. When you are winning 65 games a year, you can live with any young stud's glove anywhere. I certainly credit TB for finding a home for him in CF early in his career though. I wish Weeks hit like Upton. Me too. I'd trade Weeks for Upton in a flash. They should have moved Weeks to CF a couple of years ago instead of Hall. I agree 100%. I think the Brewers have been VERY stubborn with Weeks, and it has cost them wins. I think that Weeks has the bat to win a lot of GGs in CF, if he were given the chance to play out there.
  10. I would have gotten this right away -- Orr sang a lot of the Cars classic songs -- Let's Go, Just What I Needed, Bye Bye Love... I think he sang on about 40 percent of the Cars tracks. This is my favorite
  11. Maddux should be canned also, IMO. I agree 100% -- and I think he is 90% gone. If they hire someone like Davey Johnson, they are going to let him hire his own pitching coach.
  12. I guess I am happy that he gets the chance to play post-season, but I don't think he is "deserving" of it -- as perhaps an Ernie Banks might have been.
  13. But I really only laughed when Dwight was "testing" the stroller. I wish they would have either (a) shown what the stroller looked like when he put it in the trunk, or (b) had a scene with Jan taking it out of the trunk back in NY, instead of the Jim and Pam phone call to end the episode. Agreed 100% -- I was wondering if the melon survived all of Dwight's testing. The picture scene with Andy was pretty funny as well.
  14. Where's my golden shower Phyllis?!?!
  15. That's why you have the nail-gun on standby. The problem with pick-axes, crowbars, bats with nails in them, etc., -- is that for more decomposed zombies, that sharp edge is likely to get stuck or embedded. This would suck, because you would either lose your weapon, or be compromised trying to remove said weapon from said zombie. Based on my research, blunt objects (if used correctly), may be the best option. The reason I endorse the nail gun, is that your weapon is easily retracted. The bottom line is, if you need multiple blows to cave in a zombie melon, you need to head to the batting cages, and increase your bat-speed. I also have come up with a zombie-speed unit. Called the "estrada" abbreviated "JE"s -- basically 1 estrada is equivalent to 90 feet in 90 seconds. It will become essential for survival to know how many estradas the zombies are attacking at, to help select appropriate defense weapons. I don't think we should assume that "virus zombies" will attack slower or faster than "nuclear waste zombies". It would just be easier to say "Zombies heading your way, 4.5 JEs"
  16. Balfour was picked up from the Reds
  17. Weeks in CF Less Yostiness
  18. I don't know a whole lot about guns but want a decent one without spending a lot. The nice thing about an 870, is that there is not a lot to be worried about -- For the most part, nothing really can go wrong with a gun. Make sure you check the barrel on an older gun -- for corrosion -- you can tell when a gun has been taken care of though. Some calibers i would consider are .270, .280 or 30.06. I would tend to go .270 -- especially if you are walking a lot -- and are not hunting moose or estrada-like creatures.
  19. Two things.... 1.) If I flipped a coin 100 times and got 100 heads -- I understand that is an unsustainable rate -- but flip 101 is independent event, and so is Coffey's tendency to give up jacks. 2.) I think we are conditioned to think of "Regression to the Mean" as something that is going to happen from one season to the next -- Just because Coffey has a HR rate X in season A -- it does not ensure that Coffey will be at 1/X for season A+1 -- It may even out, but it may do so over 3-4 seasons. The reality is -- is (much like Turnbow), if he gives up as many hits/HRs/BBs as he did in Cincy (or Turnbow did in Milw) -- he probably won't be given the chance to "regress to the mean" I certainly do not believe that Coffey is going to give up a jack on every 4th FB, but that could be said about any MLB pitcher, and has no predictive value IMO. In short -- I think signing Coffey is a gamble much like Gagne was -- you end up betting on what pitcher you are going to get -- based on stats alone, it's really a crapshoot IMO.
  20. That has to go down, regressing to the mean. Why?
  21. As we go further into the 4th quarter of 2008-- I think it is an appropriate time to reflect on the many happenings in the world this past year and perhaps revise our various zombie defense strategies (ZDS). 2008, what did we learn: 1.) If your ZDS involves bats -- steer clear of the Hart and Hall models for obvious reasons. Earlier posts in this thread seemed to endorse Hart model bats, I think 2008 taught us, that those bats may be faulty and they are unreliable. 2.) Gas Prices -- With the escalation of gas prices, gas should not be used other for transportation -- this means, no making gas bombs out of empty beer bottles and dish rags. Shooting gas cans and making them explode should be frowned upon as well. As a side note, I will be generating empty beer bottles, if bychance gas prices plummet. 3.) Ned Yost -- One of the few upsides of the Brewers employing Ned Yost as long as they did, was the delay in zombie infestation. At some point, Ned will need to resume employment, if he put is charge of the manufacture, disposal, or distribution of radioactive materials -- God save us all. Rest assured firenedyost.com will redirect its efforts to see that Ned does not find employment in states with any sort of significant radioactive production. 4.) Economic Bailout -- That 700 billion dollars we gave to Wall ST. will not be available for Main Street when the zombies attack. Expect little government assistance. 5.) US Presidency -- I am very concerned that neither candidate has presented a platform for our country's ZDS. Expect either candidate to load up their cabinet with blissfully ignorant tools with regard to ZDS. Any other ideas? I am out of doughnuts.
  22. Yeah, I thought that was rather ridiculous as well. Shotguns are bought for many reasons aside from hunting, -- trap shooting, zombie defense, bank-robbing, tree pruning... a lot of people like my old man buy and sell them for collecting purposes.... I hope your heart attack was not severe.
