  1. When I used to watch Mike & The Mad Dog on YES, they would sometimes be watching a game in the studio and give pretty constant comments/updates on it. I used to do on-air work for a radio station awhile back -- and our PD would get totally bent if we gave Brewer updates while the game was playing. He thought that if someone heard -- "It's 4-4 in the bottom of the 7th" people would decide to listen to the game instead of the vile AC crap music we were playing and turn the dial. That may be why local stations do not give out updates. As far ESPN, they probably have an audience that wants constant updates to track their fantasy teams more than anything. I am sure ESPN and MLB have a contract that spells out exactly how and how frequently they can update games.
  2. there was a tornado outside Rio
  3. After 100 years or so of Mark Belanger type of SSs that couldnt hit their way out of a wet sack, Yount was one of the first in a line of consistently good hitting SSs. If you compare Yount to Jim Rice or other corner OFs he probably doesnt stack up well, but compared to other SSs Yount is a HOFer, as a hitter.
  4. Did the former coach, now a Bucks assistant, promise these players so many illegal things that now they wont play for Crean because the program is on the straight and narrow? I suspect more than anything, the players are nervous about the state of the program, and probably want to avoid for playing in the turmoil.
  5. I wanted no part of Weeks playing 2b, however, when Weeks hit the scene the Brewers weren't going anywhere. I don't think Weeks's D is as bad as Braun's. I don't think Weeks will ever be a good 2b defensively, and I agree his bat is not going to make up for it.
  6. If Braun's offense wasn't good enough to make up for his defense, than Weeks offense isn't either. I don't think this is a fair comparison. Braun's D was historically bad, but so was his offense (but good). Braun has not struggled at any point in his career (for extended periods) and I think his O has outweighed his D -- that said, I think it is clear that moving Braun has maximized his overall contribution. My point is, based on what I have seen of Braun, I think you get his bat in the lineup no matter where he plays. Weeks however has not performed at the same level as Braun. Weeks D is subpar at best, and there probably is a point where if Weeks struggles offensively (for whatever reason), he can easily be replaced.
  7. Someone beat me to 12 Angry Men. How about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Princess Bride or Pan's Labyrinth for fantasy? Blazing Saddles for Western?
  8. On a more serious side, that is too bad about the lake and people losing their homes. I could care less about the resorts--they were overpriced to begin with-- This is a very callous thing to write -- I think it is easily as tragic for people to lose their businesses/jobs as it is to lose their houses. Of course I find the idea that the Dells resorts are overpriced to be false as well, when compared to others resorts. Even if they are overpriced, I don't think they should be precluded from our sympathy when they are shut down by an "act of God". I find certain restaurants to be overpriced, I guess I would rather let the forces of the market develop their fate than the forces of nature.
  9. There was a point in the season where like 3 of the 4 HRs hit by NL pitchers were against the Brewers.
  10. Keeping him is the sign of a bad franchise. You are probably right, in that if Bush is in your rotation it isn't a great thing. The question though is not "is Bush bad?" rather "is Weaver worse?" I am not real interested in just flipping pitchers into our rotation, because as bad as Bush has been -- I believe it can get worse.
  11. Isn't that the purpose of studies? No. Assuming that no manager is perfect, losing 2 to 3 games in a year is nothing to be ashamed of. Even Lou Pinella and Joe Torre lose games. Good managers win about 3 games a year -- above what their team would do with an average manager -- bad managers cost their team 3 games a year. If Torre was a good manager and Yost was a bad one -- it would be a 6 game swing.
  12. Weaver has many more 4 ERA seasons than Bush does as he did so in 2004 and 2005. So does Pud Galvin. It just is not relevant. Weaver has playoff experience and it's worth it to give him a shot. What does playoff experience have to do with June.
  13. What a horrible manager! I agree If you heard the interview, you would have had the explanation how managers have little effect on games, but they can lose them once in a while, while rarely win them. Of course you are taking a very general study and applying it to a very specific situation. No one here thinks Yost costs us 20 games a year -- but even 2 or 3 is way too many.
  14. That sounds awfully silly. Ned Yost says hi!
  15. I hope the ticket office staff is on this thread right now, and that they decide to comp a few July games to the poster who's got the grouchiest looking avatar. . . Mine's grouchier
  16. my only problem with Hall playing 2b would be that he would be leading off.
  17. Mota has been very good for the Brewers all year. False. I have a question for those of you who contantly bash Yost; who is the manager you want to hire after you fire Yost? 1. Mike Hargrove 2. Tic Tac Toe Chicken 3. Some guy not named Dale Sveum
  18. Would anyone else prefer McClung AND Weaver over Bush? Good Gravy no. At least we could see something new in Weaver. James Belushi's show is new every week, I would rather watch a Simpson episode for the 9 millionth time.
  19. and its tornadoey here again.
  20. Never, ever eat the brown pop-tarts.
  21. Well, what about it confuses you? Hits are overrated by many. I agree. Hits are entirely overrated, teams like the Cubs should stop trying to get so many of them. Outs on the other hand are underrated by many. 50 years from now people will realize that D'angelo Jimenez didn't suck, rather he was under-appreciated.
  22. A bunt is a not that crazy of a call. And it prevents the double play. Hart bunting was dumb, even for Yost -- bunting does not prevent DPs either.
  23. where are you located Logan
