  1. Lot of time left in this race. Cubs have played over 700 ball for over a month now, they will hit a cold streak. Teams rarely play ball at that high of a rate for more than a month or two. Brewers should settle back in to winning and stay right with the Cubs, I see this race being close.
  2. I kind of missed the IGT last night. It was so nice to see Jenkins have that great game, even though I distinctly remember being told that he doesn't do anything unless the team is out of it and how they needed a LF to replace him. For a performance that excellent to come on deadline day was even sweeter. Well he will most likely become white hot or take off the next couple of weeks like he had before last night. I truly believe that most fans only recall the walk off shots and big hits when it comes to certain players. Jenks has looked awful at the plate on Saturday and really should be hitting better this year because he is only facing RHers for the most part.
  3. Dillion is only going to get a spot start and some pinch hitting duties. I don't see him having much of an impact on this team over a long period of time this season or next.
  4. Maybe Pitt thought they were getting Matt Morris from 5 years ago.
  5. The Suppan contract mistake might mean that Jenks gets the heave ho as they try to save as much as they can. Lets see we get a pitcher that puts up innings and allows the team to not rush the youth, and gived the team a chance to win most of the time. OR keep a downward trending lefty hitting OFer that can only play against right handed pitching and is only average at that. Jenks was out the door before the season started and it can not come any sooner.
  6. I hate to go clancy on a point, but this continued trade speculation that Gwynn is a centerpiece to this deal really really makes me think that Gwynn plus the package for Linebrink would have been competitive with the Braves offer for Texeiria at least in the minds of Texas. I'm incline to think that this would have helped the team more than adding Gagne and Linebrink personally. Are you kidding? 1. What spot would Tex have played in Milwaukee, with Prince at first. 2. Gwynn is not even close to Salty as a player. You do realixze that Salty is a power hitting catcher, that could move to 1B if needed. Inman is not close to Andrus as a prospetct. The other two guys might have been washes. Brewers would have had to include Parra or Carlos V to get this done and maybe both.
  7. How about we trade Gwynn while he still has some value off his name recognition. He has no future with this team. Amen Brother, nothing like getting rid of a defense of replacement that might steal some bases for an arm or two. Calling San Diego you need another weak hitting Gywnn.
  8. Was this subject started by a Bill Hall fan, who wants him back at SS. Hardy is the best short stop the Brewers have, he is above average on defense. Take a look at the plays he has made this year and he has saved enough hits and runs for this team.
  9. In a pennant race with my fantasy team and now Utley goes down just when Tejada was coming back. At least I picked up Braun this year to take care of 3B for years to come.
  10. Also, as for the comments about us minor league fan that over value our prospects... that may be true, but we started the year with a stud pitcher at every level of the minor league system; Yo at AAA, Parra at AA, Inman at A+, Periard-Braddock-Jeffress at A, Seidel-Tyson-Anundsen-Bryson at R+. Due to promotions (nothing wrong with them), trades, and injuries the cupboard is pretty bare all the way down to A ball with Jeffress pitching well for his age and Periard doing well but not great. We've gone from a position of great depth to a position of "not much" by next year. Calling us short sighted because you think we have problem giving up prospects for talent leads me to believe that many people have entirely missed our point. Being short sighted is looking at this season by itself, this season is make or break... The flip side of the coin is the many people that question this deal are looking at the big picture and are looking for long term success for this franchise. Take a look at why we are low in the top end prospects of the minors, Last 3 years are infield has been turned over the to the youth, Hart was added to the OF, also take out Yo, Carlos V, and Parra. Most farm systems in the bigs will be lacking upper talents. Melvin is in a spot that most GMs dream of that is having a chance to make a run at the playoffs. To do that some wholes have to be filled and the bullpen has been taxed this year so we needed a arm. 3 arms that might be part of the future are not a big amount to pay. Look at the guys that have never made it from the minors to the bigs. Next year even if the don't get extra picks the front office will keep reloading this system like it has over the last couple of year. With the young guys and depth with starting pitching options on the big league club there is not a real need for young starters. I dont buy into the notion that 2 of Cappy, Vargas, Bush will be gone next year. I think one of them might be moved for a corner OFer but 2 of them would be a bit of a reach.
  11. Yes. Because I hate the Brewers. Does reality hurt that much? Can't you take the goggles off and look at things realistically? Cubs are the best team in baseball and we're far from it. Me saying we'll be out of first place in 3 days isn't that much of a stretch. Take a look and you will see if the Cubs keep this 700+ winning Pct up all season. By they way cub fan, dont think Marquis and Lilly are going to keep the magic act up all season.
  12. No he decided that it was time to take a chance and win a title this year instead of waiting around for a couple of guys that might have had an impact on a team in 3 years. No one has an issue with that course of action, just the cost for the relative return. I forgot that I was at Brewerfan.net and all Brewer prospects are considered cant miss players. This is a typical trade for a team in the race. We gave up a couple of prospects for a guy that hopefully get us to the promise land. Sorry but the last month in the trade forums there have been some far out posts about what the Brewers should trade away to get talented players. It would be nice to give up nothing and get all stars but this is reality.
  13. Yes its about winning now. But Melvin still acted like a drunk who took out a $100 bill along with two 10s to pay his $25 dollar bar tab and told the bar tender to keep the change. No he decided that it was time to take a chance and win a title this year instead of waiting around for a couple of guys that might have had an impact on a team in 3 years.
  14. Jenkins has been a better player over his career where Dye has been the model of inconsistancy and Dye and Jenkins are the same age. I would say that Jenksins is also inconsistance over his career when you break it down.
  15. Prince needs a day off and with a lefty good move. Teams should be pretty set here to go on a little run guys rested, rotation in good shape and added help to the pen. Time to take the wind out the Cubs ans Cub fans sails.
  16. Yes and the Mets were smart to trade away the short Kazmir! He has not really lived up to all his press clippings. Althoug he is still better than Victor Zambrano.
  17. I tell you, along with Gregmag and others I have about HAD IT with individuals that have different perspectives on this trade denigrating a different opinion that theirs on the trade in this manner. This thread is rife with disrespect, especially towards the contingent that follow prospects closely. So maybe it should have been worded better. But to worry about 3 guys that might help this team in the future when we have a chance at a pennant is not right. ANY team small market or not knows when it has a chance to make a run they make the moves that are needed. I follow prospect also not to the depth that a lot do on this site, but all three of these guys can be replaced in very little time. I actully liked Garrison better than the other 2 but to shore up the pen and a chance at bigger things time to move him.
  18. He also leads the league in hits and runs allowed. People who keep insisting that he's doing exactly what should be expected of him have need a serious reality check. I'm not saying he's not going to pitch better - primarily because it would be tough for a guy with a decent career track record to pitch worse. But has he disappointed thus far? Unquestionably. He is what he is and tha is a pitcher that eats up innings and gives up runs. He is the same pitcher he was his whole career nothing has changed. With out him this year Brewers would have been in trouble again. Cappy's injury team would have had Sheets, Bush, Vargas and Yo (Maybe). Now Sheets is out so Yo, Vargas, Bush, Cappy with out him. In those situtations team is counting on a rookie for a long time and should have his innings limited. Who would have filled in at 5 Carlos V and then the pen misses a piece. Parra needs to have his innings limited this year. Take a look at the big pitcher and Suppan has helped the Brewers out more than people are claiming this year. But then again this team is dealing with the ace Ben Sheets on the DL when he is needed.
  19. Sure, but what did they get? 20 innings? 25? No way would they have dealt the first 6 years of a Gallardo or a Braun for something like that, even if you consider the possibility of compensatory picks If they would have been in a playoff race and needed help I think that it would have been discussed about moving Yo. Young pitching is hard to gauge with injuries and all the other stuff involved. Inman may have been the top prospect in the minors but he was a long way from helping the Brewers the next couple of years and the team has other pitchers that could do what Inman does. This called a pennant race for thos of you who forgot what it was like or not around the last time the team was in a race.
  20. I think people have over estimated what Suppan was going to do coming to Milwaukee. He was bought at market price and done his job. He leads the team in innings pitched and before last night the bullpen had blown two straight wins for him. I don't now but all those innings and his record plus the two innnings the bullpen cost look like a solid pitcher.
  21. I said it 6 weeks ago that Inman was one the Brewers bigger trade chips and it has happened. Young left handed pitchers can get the trade done. This not over paying, Brewers are gettting one of the most coveted relievers in the game for this season. All this posting about giving up too much is crazy, Brewers are in a division title race and need help now. Inman is a couple of years away at best. If the Brewers don't resign Linebrink they get two solid picks in next years draft that Jack Z can use to reload on what he gave up this year. My book this is a no loose situation for the Brewers when it comes to players.
  22. 2008 closer is named Coco Cordero. Honestly I like the idea of the Brewers going out and getting Dye for T-Bow and Parra. Nothing wrong with trying to get a better stick with two guys that can be replaced internally.
  23. The Brewers have a LF who has a 933 OPS after the break the last 3 years. I think they'll stick with him. If you mean Jenks we are in trouble. This team is in a pennant race he doesn't get hot till the team is out of it.
  24. Phillips gets a big edge because right now he is hitting in that bandbox that the Reds built. I don't think he would have the power numbers he does right now if he was playing in a more neutral park. Both these guys are going to be plus offensive players.
  25. I could care less about how Coco comes out of the bullpen. Why does every one have to have a fancy entrance with music?? Tell you what bring back the bullpen cart that can bring him around from the pen in foul terririty and I will be happy. It was always great to see a pitcher come in with his jacket on his lap riding in the bullpen cart.
