  1. Can you think of anything worse for the Cubs? He is an upgrade for this team and even if they don't make a run this year, they would have him for next year. He would add a little more pop to the middle of their lineup.
  2. I really like this site it is loaded with info. Checked my B-Day. My most hated Brewer Jenks has the same day. What a let down at least my middle son shares that day with me and is becoming a baseaball nut also. Hendu, Al " Mad Hungarian" Hrabosky, Mike Hegan and Hall of Famer Johnny Evers are also that day .
  3. Brewers would have to give up Inman & Vargas or CV to get Griffey. Reds need to get some arms, Hamilton, Freel, and Dunn cover the OF for them. Griffey gets traded after Dunn then they would be looking for a young OFer, but Gwynn isn't going to do it as he duplicates Freel as an CFer.
  4. Of course, I would not be trading a "top" prospect, like Jeffress or Inman, but "high-upside" prospects that Texas would be interested in, like Parra, Sarfate, and maybe Rottino would probably do it (a package of a couple prospects and Mench would be a shoo-in for Texas to accept, I'd think.) Parra or Sarfate would be a good starting point in talks. Texas is always going to be looking for pitching as it plays in a hitters park and will have to over pay to get pitchers to come there. Not sure what interest they would have in Rottino unless they are looking getting 25 man kind of player for their roster. No real upside from him.
  5. UWRYAN you are one of buddies on this site, but I feel you are out there with some of the trades. It will take more than Cappy to get McCann. McCann is a big time catcher and the Braves are more likely to move Salty. I don't understand the wanting of Martinez in any deal he is not healthy at all. Rocco is a huge gamble for this team to take. Some feel there is no need for a lefty then why are teams always looking for lefties?? Cappy needs to stay Yo has yet to prove anything beyond one start against one of the worst hitting teams in the league.
  6. He isn't leaving the rotation anytime soon. If he gets rocked the next couple times he will be back in the minors.
  7. Yo pitched great last night very few can argue that. But it was against the weak hitting Giants. FSN showed last night how bad they are in a bunch of hitting categories. Yes they have Bonds, but he is not Barry of 5 years ago, and who after that in the batting order scares you?? Yes wait and see when the NL has a book out on Yo and see what he does. Vargas has earned his spot in this rotation and should not be traded. If any thing I would send Bush down to the minors to work on his pitches as a starter if Yo is to stay in the rotation.
  8. This is the kind of thing that occasionally blows my mind. If we could get an all star caliber closer/set up man for a guy who has a good chance of never making it onto the big league club, who would not make this trade? If we are a contender right now, we'd pay a much steeper price to have the type of bullpen that would give us This kind of stuff gets posted in the trade forum all the time. Either people think we can rob other teams or way over value Brewer prospects. I have yet to figure which one it is.
  9. I'm glad to see that Derrek Lee wasn't bush league like Prince Fielder was against the Pirates. Lee is a class act for sure. I know you have it in blue, but Lee is considered a class act among the baseball community. IMO he did nothing wrong. Peavey made the comment that he thought some would be hit, and Lee wasn't going to take it. Not a Cub fan but they are showing that they are becoming a tighter team and not going take things from anyone. If you recall Jenks was out of the dugout when Prince was knocked down. What would you think if Prince or Jenks would have gone after the Pirates that night? Jenks coming out of the dugout could be considered bush league for doing that by some. On a different note Lee and Young you were looking at two very good basketball players in their youth. Lee turned down UNC while Young played two sports in college. 10. I said it before and I'll say it again. Chris Capuano would be the ideal trade chip at the deadline. Unfortunately, he's hurting his stock by lounging around the friendly confines of the hot tub. Only way Cappy goes if he gets packaged up with some kind of young talent to get this team a SP that is lights out. Cappy is struggling but that is no reason to think the Brewers will move him. Who would replace him in the rotation if you move him for something other than another SP?? Yo has not shown anything and they way Bailey and Lincecum have looked we cannot think he will be any better. Gillespie is going to be a starting corner OF for the Brewers by 2009, I would bank on that. Brevard is really supressing his offense, and once he goes to AA I think he will take off. I would not back on that Hart looks like he might have RF covered already and LaPorta should be ready sometime around 09 to take over LF. Unless Gillespie shows some more like you are saying he will be on another team or the #4 OFer for the Crew.
  11. Geoff Jenkins could play everyday. They don't need to replace Mench. When Jenkins is hitting, he hits enough vs. lefties that with everyone else healthy, they should have a potent enough lineup. Besides, I'd bet if Jenkins is seeing lefties more, it will make righties seem that much easier, and he'll start hitting them better too. Jenks has not hit lefties over his career so why would he start now?? Bring up Rottino on Sept 1, and he could fill in a couple times for Jenks down the stretch vs. lefties if need be. Just what we need a guy that has less major league experience getting playing time during a pennat race. A vet bat would be a better option.
  12. That wasn't the wisest move by Derrek Lee. The Cubs travel to Texas next week, and they'll be missing his HR bat down in that bandbox. He will appeal and he might be playing next week. Use to take a will for the process to take care of its self. Last year I thought they speeded it up a bit though. Anyways, isn't that the Cubs second brawl this week? They're sure a classy bunch. Why is this classes, because Lee didn't like being thrown at after Peavey has lipped off? It looks like this team is starting to come together and battling what ever comes their way. There have been in teams in the past that fought like this.
  13. Yost uses so many lineups because he thinks all you need to do is try one for a game or two and see if it works. You'd think he would know better. Rluz you are right. Problem Bobby Cox taught him how to mess things up. Cox does this more with his bullpen than anything. Early 90s Mike Stanton has 20 saves and doing a fine job and good ole Bobby decides to push him to setup guy. The master has taught him to well to mess around with things.
  14. I'm a Yost fan generally....but think this team needs some new energy and I'm willing to sacrific Ned to do so. I seem to recall Buck Rogers being fired during the season the last time we went to a World Series. Wasn't that the case? That was veteran team that was done dealing with Buck micro managing them. Keuhn came in and told the guys to just play ball and have fun. As was discussed in earlier (or another thread) this is a different type of team as it is much younger. Yost is from the Bobby Cox tree and I have never liked him as a manager. Cox always messes around with his lineup, he flirts with different closers in the pen, and sticks with his slumping guys too long.
  15. Problem #1 is that Bernie has stated he is only going to play for the Yankees.
  16. What is Al Reyes' value right now? He has some value as a setup man for a team in the playoffs. Don't think he will get a boat load of talent because he has those arm issues in the past. I give him 85% that he will be traded this year, D-Rays have no need for a closer till they are in the hunt for the playoffs.
  17. Think about the kind of trash the Brewers received in similar type deals though What kind of trash are you talking about? Graffy is not trash and he was acquired to fill a void left by Weeks injury.
  18. No way TB would have the slightest interest and the value to the Brewers does not warrant adding a pitcher that would interest them enough either. Agree with you John. Unless the Brewers want to over pay for another bench player this deal not even goint to be on the radar.
  19. Zambrano to Milwaukee would be better. How about Bush, Turnbow, and Palmisano? Think the Cubs would be looking for more than this. No real sure talent coming in with this trade.
  20. What I would do if I got Cabrera is for the rest of the year I would throw him in RF. I would switch Hart to center and keep Menchkins in LF. From there Hall becomes a supersub playing 4-5 days a week at 3B, SS, 2B, LF, and CF. This would be messing around with Billy again but heck, look at last years numbers when we did that too him. I don't like this at all. Hall is not a good CF, but Hart is right behind him in bad OF defense. He is athletic, but he is not all that instictive out there. Cabrera is a young version of Carlos Lee, so why would we stick him in RF wich is harder to play than LF? More I read about this guy I will pass on him being a Brewer.
  21. I love this pick. Kid is going to move to LF most likley or behind the plate (bit of a stretch). This club needs to get some bang in the corner OF and this kid can add it. He will be a fast mover like Braun so the lineup will be much tougher with another power stick. Futuer lineup. Hart CF Hardy SS Braun 3B Prince 1B LaPorte LF Hall CF Weeks 2B Vet Catcher Solid lineup to produce some runs backed by solid starting pitching.
  22. Nothing wrong with a little tude on the team. He has to be proven that he cannot play on this level yet.
  23. This was hashed out before and there is no real replacement hanging aroung to make this move. Posters mentioned Kremblas in the off-season, but do we really think Melvin is going to ax his man during the season? Team is still in first place.
  24. Mark Teixera Akinori Otsuka for James Loney Matt Kemp Chad Billingsley Does make a lot of sense for the Dodgers to go out and get a power stick. Not sure Loney is the guy they would want in the trade he has yet to show any power in his game. Dodgers maybe add another pitcher in this trade instead.
  25. Joe Table it is time to move on and retire from baseball.
