  1. More likely they would just wait until Nix is cut, pick him up for a month and then dump him If the plan for the A's is to contend they will not target a guy to be cut. More likely they will look to trade for a cheap alternative.
  2. These are the kinds of injuries that happen in the spring that help teams weed out their extra players. Week of spring and now the A's MAY need to go get an extra OFer for the first part of the season.
  3. Kotsay is seeking a 2nd opinion on his back. Now if that turns out to be serious coupled with a temporary loss of Kielty I think that very well could put them in the market for another OF. Having to rely on Shannon Stewart as your insurance is not real comforting. Stewart. Bradley, Swisher to start and Buck to come up and play if they really need the help.
  4. Actually, Lowell hit worse in Fenway than on the road - .763 OPS at home versus .866 on the road. An .814 OPS is pretty solid. Not great, but solid. Certainly better than a Graffy/Counsell platoon. Reilly, thanks for that information. I would that it has to be kind of a fluke as Fenway is suck a good hitters park. I still would take the platoon over him. You are going to after trade some depth for a guy that doesn't really jump up the improvement at his spot. He also one the slowests runners in the bigs.
  5. They have to much depth to worry about this injury. Swisher was moving to 1B fulltime, and he could be moved back to the OF with Dan Johnson starting at 1B. Do some people even look at a roster before they post these rumors??
  6. Why in the beep would we want Lowell, he is not done much lately. He is playing in a hitters park when you look at his stats. I would stay with Graff/Cousnel at 3B.
  7. I'd love to add Walker. He's a fine hitter with good discipline. He's a better #2 hitting option than anyone we have as of today, aside from a hittin'-Hardy. You forgot to mention that he has two frying pans for hands and can not playd defense a lick. I don't see him much of an improvement over what we have right now. All these little rumors and speculations really are such a tease! There are so many ways in which the Brewers can clearly improve their team, while possibly helping another team to improve, that it drives me nuts! This time of year there is a lot of things that could improve each team. But do you give up someone that may even better than the year before?
  8. I would say Larry Hany is semi-retired, and does what is asked of him by Doug Melvin. I'd say he is a cross-checker of sorts. I have to agree I wouldn't think that Haney is part of the daily grind. Send him out when they want a final check on a player.
  9. it seems that Josh Fields is being moved to the outfield" Just wondering where you might have got that info at? I couldnt find anything on that. So why would they go after Erstad? They already have their OF set Pod Anderson/Mackowiak and Dye factor in Erstad and Ozuna. Granted they could use some power out there. Danny there has been speculation of that going on all offseason. I know I read it in both the Sporting News and Sports Weekly this winter. Old school as I get these these in paper form. Can never have enough material to use when you have to do some thinking.
  10. Although I'm not sure I believe the Santana/Figgins for Crede/Garcia rumor, since you would have to be crazy to turn down that deal IMO. In the same boat Colby. Angels are not ones to deal young players. Santana is one of their great young arms so I don't see them moving him for those players.
  11. I would pass he has a bum back and I don't think he had surgery to repair it. He had a great season and they have a younger guy so his name will be out there. I would take Braun and see what he can do.
  12. I understand that, but I figured with Mike Sweeney always being rumored to the BoSox, that Shealy would then shift to DH. But let me guess, Billy Butler? I doubt we'll see him for at least a year. UWRyan, they are actually trying to put a team on the field that can hit. Gordon is a young guy and I think he is average on defense and will make up for that with his stick. They actually have a lot of sticks that play corner spots and need someone to step up and move to a new spot and produce.
  13. How does BA's prospect handbook compare to Prospectus 2007 and Sickel's Baseball Prospect Book? Or is it even an apples to apples comparison? Are there other resources out there worth cosidering? Just curious where people's allegiances lie. Thanks. Read them all and they are all good. I love Sickels myself I think he finds some lower guys and gives you some good insight.
  14. I see Teahan staying for a while unless they get over whelmed with an offer. Butler and Lubanski are two corner guys that they like, but Lubanski has not lived up to his first round selection yet, and for a while know Butler was suppose to force his way onto the field with his stick.
  15. Right now Villanueva/Jackson and Mench/Gross could probably start on Various teams throughout league. My issue is I'm not sold that the Braves give up Jones for those players. I know he is only a rent a player, but I feel they can get more for him.
  16. I don't think Jones would sign a deal with us. The whole point of the trade was to make a push this year. In the second half. If the Brewers are doing well. Then Cash in with the first round picks when the season is over Hall is not going to be moved back to SS if we do that trade, mybe in to 3B, but more likely to LF. I would not like the trade if they have no shot of bringing back Jones for a couple of years. This is not a older team that is trying to make one last run at a title. Also think we have to offer a high end prospect to get Jones from the Braves. We are offering a lot of mid range guys at best from the proposal I say in this thread.
  17. He has had chances in at least 4 seasons now, and has done nothing. Sure he may all of a sudden find it, but its much more common for someone to continue to play the way they have been than it is to magically turn it around. Those 4 years are not full years, he has been injured and in the minors. There are players in the past that figured it out later in their career. I'm not sure Nix is one of them, but I'm not writing him off yet. And that comment about his hall of fame father is just a blatant cheap shot people use to knock him down. People need to stop using it. Sure he may have a bit of an advantage growing up, but we're talking about the major leagues here. Teams arent going to simply give him a chance because his dad says to. It is not a cheap shot. I don't think a major league team would give him a shot because who is dad is. Although it would not suprise me if he doesn't put on a Padres uniform one day. My feeling is there are posters on this board and others that look at the name and think he will produce. If he was Joey Gathright or Nook Logan would we be thinking the same thing?
  18. Laynce Nix is 26 years years old. He's never batted above .255 in the majors, despite having at least 100 at bats 3 different seasons. He has never even had an OBP of over .300...thats awful. Gwynn is 2 years younger.and had a higher batting average last season in the majors than Nix has ever had. Granted his OBP was also pathetic, but that can be contributed to his lack of power and his still learning to be more patient. He can also steal more bases than Nix can and is a better defender. He may not be much better of a prospect than Nix, but in my opinion he still has an upside whereas Nix does not. So once a guy turns a certain age you should just throw him away?? Gwynn has upside in that he can chase balls down in the OF. He has not proven that he can get on base regularly to use his speed on the bases. And with no power what to speak of he is just a defensive player with a father that was a hall of famer. Slight of what Nix might was produce is Gary Matthews Jr. he bounced around for a while and lately has been a fair player. I don't think Nix will ever have the season that Little Sarge did last year though.
  19. Teahan is not coming to Milwaukee anytime soon. Royals have stated he was moving to LF this season to make room for Gordon. They have no need to move him and actually upgrade the team with him out there. Dejesus is supposedly going to play CF this year for them. Hardy is locked in right now at SS, with Hall moved to OF Brewers seem to think Hardy is the future. As much as I like Jones, I think it pipedream that he would sign a deal with us. He most likely needs to be overpaid to stay in Brew town.
  20. This has been a huge pet peeve of mine all off season....but why is Laynce Nix even bieng talked about as an option. He was not good at all in Milwaukee last season, and has never had success in the majors. He's too old to be considered a prospect anymore, so why are we still talking about him? Nix is an option because he is part of the 40 man roster like him or not he is part of the roster. He was considered a very good prospect and has battled injuries for the last couple of seasons. In my book he's as good an option as Gywnn Jr. As far a Benitez goes, I wouldnt mind having the guy, but i guess with him, Turnbow, Aquino, Cordero, and Cappellan, that seems like a lot of right handed power pitchers coming out of the bullpen. Is that a good thing? Pass on Armando all day. He has been on the block since last season. Marlins seem to be the team everyone thinks he is headed too. He's not reliable as a closer and has had numerous melt downs in that role before. He crashed in burned for the Mets years ago.
  21. Melvin Mora? No thanks. Graffy/Counsell would probably put up about the same numbers as he did last year. I agree with Ender. Mora is still living off that big year he had a couple seasons ago. He had a career year and now way has he come close to it. I would give up Little Ben and Gwynn Jr for him maybe.
  22. If the Twins want him, they can have him for nothing as far as I'm concerned. Send him back home - probably the second best scenario to dropping him on a division rival I agree, maybe they could use him as a batting practice pitcher if no one will give up a bag of used eye black markers.
  23. How can you even judge Hall in CF when he has not been given a chance in CF yet?? Two deep with Nix and Gwynn jr?? Nix I will give a maybe as he has had injuries in the past. If you call a guy that can fly and catch the ball in CF depth than that is Gwynn, he has yet to prove he will hit at the big league level or get on base either. Braun sure has a chance at turning into a decent 3B not a gold glover before Jenks put a WHOLE season together. Jenks is older and showing wear, Braun is young and improving.
  24. If...if...if... You could say that for most players in the league. If he also pitches like he did, he sends us out of contention when Yost sticks him out there. I agree with the if on players. IF Jenkins played a whole season we would contend IF Bill Hall can match last years stats he is an all star. IF Rollie Fingers would have pitched in the world series we woudl have won it.
  25. Lastly, I do want to point out that there's a heavy anti-Yankees bias on this site, to immediately discount a prospect as highly-regarded (across the league, not just in NYY-land) as Hughes. I understand the small market fans feeling that the way the Yanks are able to spend money is unfair. What's even more unfair, though, and counterproductive to objective discussion on this forum, is the notion that Hughes is a pedestrian pitcher who's merely a product of some conspiracy-riddled NYY media. My point is that the New York Media pumps almost every Yankee prospect like they are a elite talent. I have read and heard several baseball writes state this. Hughes is their Yo. Both these guys could be a bust, Superstar or some where in between. I do see a lot of homerism when it comes to Brewer prospect sites and have stated that since I came here early this year.
