  1. Again, I'm not saying that. It boils to down to this: Hart will be 32 and he's already lost quite a bit of speed. I think his body will continue to break down at a faster-than-normal rate. He will also most likely be looking for 4+ years and 12+ mil/yr. I think he will be closer to an .800 OPS than the .865 OPS he's put up the past few years during that time period. I ultimately think it won't be worth it and the money will be better spent elsewhere (including not spending it). There is no rule that says we need to have a $90+ million payroll every year. I would maybe consider a 2/24 extension but I don't want to get into Hart after age 34. And like I said, I think he could bring back some good talent, maybe even a top 100 prospect.
  2. To me, it has nothing to do with his abilities. I've never been a huge fan of his and while he has his faults, he's still a good player. That being said, he's on the wrong side of 30 and will be relatively expensive at positions where we already have young and/or cheap bodies already here or coming up (Gamel, Green, Aoki, Schafer, Gindl, Morris, etc.). He's still under contract through next year and after that will be entering his age 32 season. I think he definitely has trade value so I would actually look to shop him in the offseason. I think what he brings back in a trade, combined with the savings from his salary and production from whatever player fills in for him, won't be too far off of whatever value he brings himself. If we still had a great pitching staff/bullpen, a SS, and a non-struggling 2B, then I might consider offering him a 2 yr extension. Depending on what happens with Greinke/Marcum, I don't know if we'll be competing next year so I would look to get some talent back for him. And then when (hopefully) some/all of Thornburg/Jungmann/Bradley/Peralta are in the rotation by 2014, we will be ready to compete and could maybe use that extra cash from Hart to get a good SS/3B/SP.
  3. I'd do Lee and Eovaldi for Marcum if he comes back healthy soon. Not enough for Greinke IMO though.
  4. I don't get it either. He's only 22, sure, but he really hasn't hit much in his career, minors or majors. And he doesn't seem like anything more than average (at best) defensively at SS and may be better suited for 2B. Sure I would take him because our options at SS are rather limited now. But I definitely wouldn't take him as anything more than a throw-in for Greinke (i.e. in addition to Teheran/Delgado/Minor types) or even for Marcum straight-up.
  5. They've been all over Facebook for days. They've also had tons of "Vote Braun" sign stuff over FSN the past couple of weeks. Since they didn't play yesterday and had a day game Wednesday, then it might've been hard for more people to see that the past few days.
  6. According to BRef, Loe and Veras won't be FA until 2014.
  7. Kinsler is signed through 2017, with option for 2018. Andrus through 2014. So yeah Andrus likely wouldn't hold up Profar but I also don't know if the Rangers would want to just let Andrus walk either. They could always trade him in the offseason or next year I guess.
  8. Not a fan of these "out of your mind if think 'x'" posts. Yes Profar might be wishing. But I don't think it should be dismissed outright. Texas has Andrus and Kinsler up the middle for the next couple of years, plus Beltre and Young. Sure they could move one of those guys. But if they really wanted Greinke (and I think they should, since he would put them as the absolute favs for a WS title) and Melvin was really insistent on Profar, it could happen. However, I don't think Melvin is the type to be really insistent on a certain player and I could see him being talked into something less.
  9. That normally doesn't mean much. A lot of 2B/3B and even some OF were the SS in high school because they were the best athletes on the team. Usually if a guy isn't playing SS in the minors, its because the team thinks he can't hack it there. I know some times certain players are blocked but usually if a good offensive guy can play even average defense there, he'll stick. Just looking at Castellanos FLD% at 3B, it isn't very good which makes me think he wouldn't be a very good SS. I know FLD% isn't the greatest defensive stat but like I said, if the Tigers thought he could hack it there, he'd probably be playing there. That being said, I'd probably take him as part of a package for Greinke. I'd like to see a little more HR power out of a 3B but hopefully it will develop, as he just turned 20.
  10. Man, Axford is just beyond awful this year. I will never understand why Brewers closers can never last longer than 2 years tops.
  11. Axford up now? Is this a matter of him needing work, showcasing KRod in a closing role for a potential trade, or just giving KRod the closer's role outright?

  13. Oh really? Estrada always does this. Looks awesome for a few innings and then gives up the longball. That's why I (and others) think he's best served out of the bullpen.
  14. Regardless of whether or not that was a good trade, a Greinke trade shouldn't be comparable. Just because one trade is good or bad doesn't really have any effect on any subsequent trades. Each trade should stand on its own.
  15. I can't stand Izturis. He has no use on a AAA team, let alone a MLB team.
  16. I (and many others) think Michaels is an idiot and I'm not really sure how or why he was given a show by WSSP. And he spelled Morgan's name "Nyger." I know the guy isn't paid to strictly follow the Brewers but I hate it when supposed "sports professionals" (journalists, reporters, hosts, etc.) don't even know how to spell someone's name correctly, especially when they should be well-versed on that player's team.
  17. Why are you only using his ERA from this season alone? This was easily his worst ERA in the minors for his career. He had an ERA under 2 last year in a much larger sample.
  18. I don't think a guy's BA in one playoff series should have much of an effect on whether or not he should be in the HOF. Playing with the same team shouldn't really have an effect either.
  19. Yeah I really wanted to get into ROH but just couldn't get over how terrible it looked.
  20. It doesn't matter what the other players in the trade do, it matters what the players we received have done. That goes for all trades. You can't just look at it as "well those guys are doing pretty good now, we never should have traded them." If Greinke was a complete bust and the prospects turned out to be all-stars, sure you can say it was a bad trade. But that's not the case. It was a good trade regardless of whether or not we resign him. We most likely don't make the playoffs without him (or Marcum). Now whether you believe simply making the playoffs was enough is another question. edit: I see you didn't really say it was a bad trade but that was my initial impression after reading how you mentioned Odorizzi lighting it up. I thought really highly of Odorizzi but like I said, he was years away from helping the club and I think the Greinke trade worked out fine (especially if we can turn around and sell him for a few prospects ourselves).
  21. I can't stand Roenicke either but yes it is annoying to scroll through every IGT and see like 8 of yours posts each page, with 6 of them saying how much Roenicke sucks. understood. I will post less. Not so much posting less, just don't post redundantly.
