This is what I worried about with Veras. I always heard he had a live arm but lots of control problems. Maybe if he took a couple MPH off each pitch and tried to locate a little more.
Corey Hart with another terrible route to a ball. Not sure if the runner still would have tagged if he took a better route but the ball almost went over his head. It seems like everyone on the team sucks right now except Gamel, Aoki, and the catchers.
Morgan's arm isn't much better. And one could make the argument he's worse defensively because of his poor positioning and judgment of fly balls. I'll take the guy with the weaker arm (if Aoki does in fact have the weaker arm) over the guy who makes stupid mental mistakes. While I wouldn't mind if Morgan was traded, I think Aoki should at least get more PT. I would love to see a 3-man platoon, with Gomez getting all the starts against lefties and Morgan/Aoki splitting time against righties. Aoki should get 1 start a week in CF. I also wouldn't mind him getting 1 start a week in RF either to either give Hart a rest or have Hart play 1B to give Gamel a rest. But there's almost 0 possibility to that latter part since Roenicke loves Ishikawa (so Hart is probably only the emergency 1B now).
Yes, new compensation is in effect for this year. Actually, new rules were in effect for this past off-season but they were special for that off-season only.
I like Gomez but can someone sit him down and tell him to bunt, then run. He's fast enough he doesn't need a head start. It's like the car commercials sign, then drive.
I like that lineup but Roenicke's thinking is Gamel is a lefty so he can't hit lefties well. If he wants to go that route, I'd still do Lucroy 6th and Gonzo 8th.
I've been saying this all along too. Give him 2 starts a week (one at 3rd, one at 2nd) plus PH and he could see 10-12 ABs a week easy. Plus, I think that would keep ARam and Weeks fresh, so there's less of an injury risk.
That's more what I meant. I know hot/cold streaks exist but you shouldn't really mess with trying to predict them because you don't know when they will end. So usually you just play the better player. I agree though that Morgan should get some time off and Aoki should take his place. I was just saying that just because Gomez has been playing well doesn't mean he should be starting every game.
Gomez has been playing well let him take over for a few straight games. No. As much as I like Gomez, he's proven in his career he is better off not facing many righties.
I didn't see it but I just read an article relating to Jackie Robinson day and how there are still very few minorities in manager and GM roles. Dave Stewart had this quote: "What did Jerry Manuel do to not get another opportunity to manage?" Stewart said of the former Mets manager. "He didn't get one interview after he was hired from the Mets. Not one. He had to go to the MLB Network just to stay around the game. I don't want to turn this into a political debate but I don't think these things always come down to race. If a guy is good, he's good. I don't care what color he is. I remember when Dave Stewart was the pitching coach here and he didn't exactly come off as a likable guy. I always liked him as a player but he came across as kind of a jerk.
