  1. I would just like to add that I was one of those who was kind of defending Yuni before he ever played. I never really watched him play much and didn't put too much stock into defensive stats. His offensive stats indicated he had some pop for a SS, which I thought was definitely needed after Escobar. I also couldn't believe that someone could be as bad as people were saying Yuni was. I figured I would give him the benefit of the doubt and watch him with my own eyes before I passed judgment. While he made some flashy plays on defense and came up with some hits at times, overall he was a pretty terrible player. Some might argue the flashy plays he made were because he has such a terrible jump/range and an average SS would have made those plays with ease. I don't necessarily think he was lazy like some do because he didn't dive for balls. I do, however, think he was very hard-headed in not changing his offensive approach. I could understand how some, like me, might've defended him before ever seeing him play. I could also understand how some might want to defend him from being called the worst player ever, since that's kind of hard to judge. What I can't understand, however, is how someone can say he wasn't a bad overall player after watching him for an entire season. I don't care if he made some nice plays or had a few key hits. Overall, his lack of range on defense and poor approach on offense made him a pretty bad baseball player over the course of the season.
  2. I thought that's how most people felt when they first came out. The first one was (and still probably is, though I haven't seen it in a long time) really good. The second one had some cool scenes like the freeway scene but was just ok. The third one was absolute crap.
  3. Not really a surprise or even news. I'm pretty sure it was announced immediately that it wouldn't be made public.
  4. If we had 30 teams competing for 2 playoff spots that would be terrible. With 16 teams its not so bad. The sport would be far, far worse if more teams didn't have hope. There would no point to being a Brewer fan if there were no playoffs. This is why there are more playoff spots, not because of money. They have playoffs games on during the day, if they were interested in money that would never happen, how many NBA playoff games occur during the day? Also, the playoffs are more exciting from a fan perspective even though they are less "fair". If you wanted a fair system then all 30 teams should play each other an equal number of times and the team with the best record is the winner and there are no playoffs. It is better to have smaller divisions to create rivalries and give more fans hope their team can win the WS. It is great that 5 WC winners have won the WS because most fans can still have WS hope in August, even if it is remote. If we played each team in the league the same number of times we would not hate the cubs any more than the padres, which would suck. We also would have to watch more games starting at late times which is worse for the fans. This sums up everything for me. I don't care about the best team from the regular season winning. If that was the case, why not just give the championship to the team with the best record? It would suck to be a fan of most teams if there were still only 4 teams making the playoffs because most teams would know they have no shot. For me, it's all about making the playoffs and from there, anything can happen. I think the NFL has it best but it's easier to do when you only play 16 games.
  5. In Zombie mythology, they've always been able to rip apart flesh and limbs fairly easily (or at least going back to the Romero zombies). I've wondered why this is myself. Maybe their desire for human flesh is so overpowering it gives them superhuman strength? Whatever the reason, I love it. As for Dale, I'm glad he's gone. He was annoying and IMO, stupid. I don't know if I would've killed the kid but Dale just couldn't realize that the world they knew was gone and everything now turned to survival first and foremost. And I have a feeling that his won't be the last big death this season. edit: I can't stand the sherrif's kid either.
  6. I would go with Aoki/Morgan at the top and hit Weeks 5th. But knowing Roenicke, Weeks will stay at leadoff and I wouldn't be surprised if he did something stupid like put Gonzalez 5th, because Gamel can't hit higher than 6th and Lucroy is a catcher so he has to hit 8th. That would leave Aoki/Gonzalez for the 5th spot. edit: As much as I love watching Gomez play, he really shouldn't be starting against righties, but I could easily see Roenicke playing him and Morgan until Hart comes back. I think Conrad probably makes the team now (with Green going back to AAA) to back up all infield positions.
  7. I like bigger playoffs, like the NFL and NHL (I dislike the NBA). It gives more teams a chance to win and you (usually) don't have the same teams dominating every year. I understand the argument that when you play 162 games, they should matter. I would've shortened the season to 154 (or even less) and expanded the playoffs. But then you have the problem of records and such not being comparable and everything. Obviously if you're a team like the Yankees, Red Sox, or Phillies and usually have a good shot at the playoffs every year, it doesn't really matter. But for teams like us, I like giving us more odds to get there. That being said, if they are going to add another team, it should be a 3 game series, not just a 1 game playoff.
  8. Eh, not very funny to me. It doesn't even make sense since the numbers before "Priceless" are all years, not dollar amounts.
  9. I just don't understand it from the Brewers perspective. He's already 29 and under control for the next 5 years. edit: I guess if they think he's going to continue to pitch like he did last year and he'll end up costing something like $15 mil/yr in arby. I think he'll continue to be solid but probably never pitch like he did last year. And Brewer's closers have had a tendency to blow up in the past. I just worry they're gonna give him like $10 mil/yr, which is ridiculous for just about any closer.
  10. I think people are focusing too much on the fact that it wasn't sent to Fedex immediately instead of focusing on why and how that matters. If the sample was stored in a cooler in his basement with no ice and then left in that cooler in his car for Monday morning, then that would definitely seem like it could cause some problems. If it was kept in a cool place and at a stable temp for those 44 hours, I don't think there would be a problem. But it seems like that isn't the case.
  11. I was just going to post that article. Basically it would be too expensive and take way too much time, as well as destroy the sample.
  12. I wouldn't say that at all. The first season was better and that was the one that Darabont did. The main problem was the budget was cut in half and the episodes doubled, meaning less money and less zombies. However, with news that the Governor has been cast for next season, I have high hopes.
  13. I don't think many here are breaking it down scene by scene or looking too much into it (at least I'm not). Most of the time, I don't really care if a comedy is smart or not (though it can help). The Office just doesn't really make me laugh anymore. Actually, I rarely even crack a smile. I will continue to watch it because I've invested 7 or whatever years in it but it wouldn't bother me if it was canceled.
  14. I don't know, I don't think Royce Clayton looks much like Tejada.
  15. Haven't seen it but it's gotten pretty horrible reviews. It might be worth checking out because of the cast but I wouldn't expect anything very good. Pacino has done some horrible movies lately (88 Minutes, Righteous Kill, Jack & Jill).
  16. I don't know about that. The pool party episode and the appendix rupturing episode were really the only funny episodes for me. For me, The Office isn't even in the same class as Parks & Rec, Community, Workaholics, It's Always Sunny, The League, or Modern Family. Even when those shows are "bad," they are still better than the "best" Office episodes this past season.
  17. Those were the first 2 teams I thought of as well.
  18. Wow, is this true? I didn't know this. This makes Braun that much more believable. Yeah that's a big argument for Braun that I'm surprised isn't brought up more. Every player on every team that makes the playoffs will be tested and I assume all players are aware of that. So it would've been stupid (even moreso that during the regular season) to be juicing then.
  19. But that's assuming that Braun would have tested positive regardless, which I'm not so sure is the case (and really is impossible to know). There are different theories floating out there about tampering, bacterial infection because of sitting out at the wrong temperature, etc.
  20. Wow, that's a conspiracy theory right there.
  21. How can you still think Braun juiced? This test is the only real "proof" there is and there's so many questions surrounding the validity of it, what happened to it, etc., that it should really be thrown out. Braun's numbers have been consistent his whole career, he's not an idiot, he's been tested numerous times before, etc. You must think Braun did a hell of an acting job today then too but I saw real emotion coming out of him. Even people who doubted his story have changed their minds after listening to him. I just don't see any reason or evidence that Braun was using.
  22. Wow, what a turd. I can't believe people honestly believe that. Selig is the reason we have drug-testing, why would he want the system to fail? It just doesn't make sense.
  23. Either Braun should be nominated for an Oscar or he truly is innocent.
  24. Reading it wrong. He said a couple of guys already wrote a piece on the situation. Not sure if they covered the same sciency stuff that we would have but maybe SI just didn't want multiple pieces on the story. But wasn't the idea that he had NEW stuff? About replicating the tests and whatnot? If that's the case and this is really new stuff that could really help explain what the deal is, wouldn't places be jumping up and down to get it? Would it matter to have 2 articles on it if they were completely different? I'm not sure, all I know is he said that a couple of guys already wrote an excellent article on the situation.
