  1. According to wikipedia, he has a strong arm and can make flashy plays but sometimes messes up the routine ones. That sounds a bit like Yuni but he did win a gold glove in 2008.
  2. So Prince was at least a 10 WAR player this year? I don't buy that. The Brewers may very well win 10-12 less games but it won't be due to just losing one player. I say the difference between Gamel and Prince is 3-4 wins.
  3. Yeah this has been pretty well known for awhile. I think some on here have even talked about deferring money like this for Prince but people bring up Bonilla and how it backfired. Article from 2000.
  4. Jericho said he is not coming back, i think its too early for the taker to come back, and they are running seperate promos for masked kane. i think and hope its someone new. From what I read, Jericho said he will never "wrestle" for WWE again. Which was meant to be a joke since WWE superstars "entertain," not wrestle. Not that I'm saying it's him but I don't think that statement should exclude him.
  5. I think technically it's just the tv show. Obviously trying to show that it's more about wrestling when WWE is about the entertainment. Unfortunately, Hogan/Bischoff haven't exactly made it about the wrestling. I tried to get back into it over the summer but when I saw segments involving challenging Scott Baio to a match, I gave up. If TNA could realize they have some legit talent there (Styles, Daniels, just about the entire X-Division, etc.) instead of pushing all the old washed-up WCW/WWE castoffs, they could give WWE a run. I just don't see that happening with Hogan/Bischoff in charge.
  6. I'm a huge Morrison fan but yeah he just looks uncomfortable when he's on the mic. And in the WWE, mic skills are much more important than actually being able to wrestle.
  7. I'm surprised there's been this much confusion over everything. There's been plenty of good writeups on MLB Trade Rumors that explain things pretty well. But basically this offseason has its own set of rules and then next offseason the stuff from the new CBA agreement goes into effect. So this offseason, there's a group of guys that cost a pick to sign (plus supplemental), another group that nets a 1st rounder in front of the signing team (plus supplemental), and another group that just nets a supplemental. Then next offseason to get compensation, the player must be offered a one year deal of the average of the top 125 (I think that's the number) salaries from the previous season and that player must have been under team control for the entire season (so don't get rewarded for deadline players like KRod). Then I also believe that only the worst 10 teams are protected from losing a first round pick (instead of worst 15 in years past). Also if a bottom 10 team then signs a protected player, they would lose their second-highest pick, not necessarily 2nd round. So if they got a supplemental pick from supplemental draft (another new thing they are doing), they could lose that.
  8. I thought the show was awesome last night. I think Shane was right in doing what he did. And of course the ending was great. For those who've read the comic, is that what happened there too?
  9. Well it wasn't right that we got screwed for losing Sabathia as well. But keep in mind this is only for this offseason. Then next season it goes to the average salary thing.
  10. That has more to do with "punishing" the team who signs the best free agents than it does "rewarding" the team losing him.
  11. If KRod signs elsewhere, the Brewers will get a 1st round pick and a supplemental no matter what.
  12. It's not that they can't up payroll for next year. They probably could. It's that they can't lock themselves into a $100+ million payroll long-term. They no doubt brought in a lot of extra money this year but chances are, we won't have all those extra playoff games, 3+ million in attendance, new fans, etc. every year to sustain that type of payroll. If they had a chance to sign a guy like Prince, Reyes, etc. at 1 or 2 year deals for $20+ million annually, they would do it. But these guys are asking for at least 4-5 years and the Brewers can't afford that without sacrificing other areas, ultimately making the team worse.
  13. KRod won't bring back a 1st round pick only these players who are free agents will a team have to surrender a pick: Prince FielderDavid OrtizAlbert PujolsJose ReyesJimmy RollinsC.J. Wilson Yes he will. The team who signs him won't have to give up a pick but we would get the pick directly before whoever signs him.
  14. Actual link. Another link from Haudricourt. Even if KRod does accept (which I highly doubt he will), we would have a stud bullpen again. I think the Brewers could also just trade him if he accepted.
  15. If they could do this without giving up Peralta, I'd be all over it. I would then look to lock up Greinke and trade Wolf or Marcum (preferably Wolf) for a RF/1B (or play Gindl/Schaefer in RF and sign a 1B). Having a top 3 of Yo, Greinke, and Gio would be amazing. Unfortunately, it won't happen.
  16. Is that luck though or can that be attributed to the Brewers' system? I know the pitching coaches have changed a few times over the years (a lot of success was due to Maddux) but maybe Melvin has just done a good job of finding undervalued guys with the talent to close. I agree that we shouldn't trade Axford just to trade him but if you get offered a good deal for him, I wouldn't hesitate. I think closers are overrated and we would be able to find someone else to step up. Look at the Cardinal's this year. They had multiple guys close throughout the year and they won it all.
  17. I don't think you'd be able to get both of those for that price. Rollins might be 4/48 himself and Ramirez at least 3/36, possibly even more. I think we should just concentrate on SS and let Green/Gamel have 3rd/1st. We need young, cheap talent on the roster and if we sign someone at 3rd/1st/SS, all we'd have to fit that description is Lucroy, Gomez, and a few pitchers.
  18. I too think they could to better than Gamel and Green. The fact that they're willing to deal him I think speaks volumes about their stadium/financial situation though. At this point if nothing gets resolved they really need guys that can even just fill out their roster who are MLB quality. The Reds and Royals would be much better matches in my opinion. Here's my video game type trade: Gamel, Green, Axford, Schafer, Narveson for Gio and Balfour Gio's control is quite concerning. He might end up being Jonathan Sanchez 2.0, not that that's horrible just not all that great. Then who plays 1st, 3rd, closer, 5th starter, possible 5th OF? The last two might be easy to fill and possibly even closer, but it would be hard to match Axford's production. The Brewers don't really have anyone else in the system ready to step in at 3rd/1st and they can't really afford to add anyone via free agency, at least not at both positions plus SS.
  19. I think what's happening this offseason is for this offseason only. It's like a bridge between the old rules and new rules. There were a few guys like KRod where if someone signs them, the signing team doesn't lose a pick but the other team gains a pick before the signing team and a supplemental. Then next offseason, the new rules go into effect where you only gain the other team's pick if you offer arby of the average of the highest paid players from the previous season.
  20. That's the plan but I don't think they needed to sign Nathan to move Feliz into the rotation. They could've just moved Adams into the closer's role and gotten a great starter/great closer for free if that's the way you're looking at it.
  21. Yeah I was thinking extending Greinke first. I'm also looking further down the road. Spending $20 mil on Prince wouldn't be a problem this year or possibly even the next couple. It's a few years down the line when Braun, Weeks, Yo, etc. start getting expensive that the money will matter. If Prince would go something like 3/60, I'd be all over it, but it would never happen.
  22. Exactly, it's not whether the Brewers could afford him. They most likely could. The problem would be that he just wouldn't be worth it in the long run and the money would best be spent elsewhere.
  23. That would be the worst defensive infield in the history of the game.
  24. Both are the last two ranked Type B free agents on the list I saw.
