  1. Wow, who knew McClung would have control problems? He has a new delivery and everything! If I have to hear one more time about how some "mechanical adjustment" is going to make a crappy pitcher into a good one, I'm going to scream. Hey, maybe they can teach McClung a new pitch! That'll fix em'!
  2. You think Yost will call for the intentional walk with the bases loaded and the pitcher up?
  3. Yeh, more intentional walks. Basically, the only thing Yost did right with regard to in-game management, he's abandoned. So happy.
  4. OK, this is just getting dumber and dumber. Stop walking Chipper like he is Barry Bonds for all that is holy. Stupid.
  5. Why the HELL do the Brewers keep trying to steal 3B with 2 out anyway? It's almost a worthless base in that situation!
  6. Did Braun try to steal 3rd or something?
  7. Another good defensive play by Branyan, what a surprise. I was kind of worried about his D at 3B but wow, he's been solid. Someone else said it and I agree; all his throws are effortless. He takes his time and has been dead accurate to Prince so far.
  8. Looks like they ended up giving Weeks an error. Holy crap. Did McClung really just give up a 4 pitch leadoff walk to Francour? Isn't that basically impossible?
  9. Weeks sure plays a part in a lot of a lot of infield "singles".
  10. SOS matters but nearly as much as I think some think. The fact of the matter is, the Cubs are a better team than the Brewers AND they have a 6 game lead. It's not impossible to catch them but very unlikely. The Brewers probably have a better chance at the wildcard but even that's in doubt right now. BP still has the Crew's chances at 37% but I have to seriously question that assessment. Of coourse, they are also presuming that Gallardo is still pitching for the Brewers. Look at it this way. It's probably a good bet that the Brewers will need at least 90 wins to make the playoffs. That's a 64-45 finish, or a .587 winning%. The Brewers will have to play like a 95 win team for the rest of the year. Possible? Sure, but there's no "very good chance" of anything associated with the post season happening to the crew this year, except them being eliminated from it. That said, there'sa long way to go, so I'll still be watching with anticipation.
  11. I chalked up the early season WOAS as nothing to get too worked about but.... just.... wow. Every friggin' game is a disaster. Every time they cut to a fan doing nothing or Yost looking stoic or another Trenni doing another worthless in-game interview, all I can think is, "Cut back to the pitcher! He's going to pitch and you are going to miss it again!" I'm sure it's a difficult job but the current director is an embarrassement to his profession.
  12. I wouldn't mind of the Brewers just pinch hit for McClung the second time he comes around in the batting order. Get 4 innings out of McClung and 3 or 4 from Villy.
  13. I know what you are saying -- but the balls caught by Prince and Hardy, are the sort of outs Torres induces (GBs). The thing that bugs me about Mota/Gagne are the BBs and HRs. The ball Hardy flagged down was a line drive up the middle. My point though, was to not put too much weight on the results of the most recent innings worth of work. The line between a good and bad outing is very thin. Personally, I don't see any reason to think Torres is anything more than a mediocre reliever.
  14. I think it's significant at this point in the season that the Cubs are 12-4 against the Pirates and Padres. What should they have gone, 10-6? The Cubs were expected to be a good team before the season started and have made good on that expectation so far. Are they going to stay on pace for 98 wins? Very doubtful. They are a very good team, however. Is that true? Day/Night OPS splits (AL & NL) from 2007 appear basically dead even, as does run-scoring. I've never heard of that and it certainly hasn't been true the last couple of years: MLB, 2007: Day: .266/.334/.423/.757 Night:.268/.336/.422/.758 MLB, 2006: Day: .266/.336/.430/.766 Night: .270/.336/.432/.769
  15. Here are how I see the odds the last 3 games of May: Brewers Win: 3: 16% 2: 41% 1: 33% 0: 10% As I always mention, I don't consider pitching matchups, so take those numbers with a grain of salt. Vegas and I agree that today's game is a coinflip, however and the pitching matchups look pretty good for the Brewers over the first two games against Houston: Parra vs. Backe Sheets vs. Moehler The Astros are complete pretenders in my opinion. They were only projected to win about 75 games before the season started and despite being 6 games over right now, they've only outscored their opponents by 5 total runs. The Brewers are heavy favorites to win that series. As for Arizona, they are the better overall team, certainly, but with the Brewers playing at home and no Webb, it's not a particularily lopsided matchup. The Brewers are lucky to miss both Oswalt (even if he is struggling) and Webb. The schedule looks pretty good for June, really. The Brewers meltdown in 2007, was one of the worst meltdowns in NL history -- (I think top 5), so while we can say "all is not lost" -- expecting something similar to 2007 probably isn't a good idea. Ageed. And let's not forget that the Cubs were expected to be the better team in 2007 to begin with. That's was also true for 2008. If the Brewers catch the Cubs, it will even be more of a surprise.
  16. While talent isn't static, when you ride a hot streak, you are treating randomness as a predictive tool. Now, if the Brewers see that Torres has great velocity and wonderful movement, this year, great. That's information that isn't necessarily captured in his performance over the short term but it has to be considered. His "hotness" better not just be based on simply results, though. Take last night for example. Had Fielder not handled that ball in the hole and Hardy not been able to dive for the liner up the middle, Torres may have blown it and this thread would be titled, "Who The Heck Will Be the Closer Now!?" All that said, Torres is clearly the best reliever the Brewers have (based on past and current performance), which unfortunetely isn't saying much. And yes, I'm including Gagne in there, since what he did 5 years ago is completely irrelevant these days.
  17. A little better than a 50/50 chance of being .500 by June 1st. Heck, there's around a 13% chance of being 2 games over by then http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I know, I know. Stop being greedy.
  18. A 2 run lead would SURE feel better in this situation. The Brewers don't exactly have a shutdown closer these days. At least the 6-7-8 batters are up for the Braves
  19. No Counsell with the game on the line? Is Yost losing his mind!!??
  20. Besides being low AND outside, that was definitely a strikeout. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif That ump is sure being nice to the Brewers!
  21. Why do all the no-name, two-bit, 5+ ERA pitchers have to pitch like Greg Maddux against the Brewers? I'm sure Braves fans were saying the same thing about Bush yesterday. I doubt there's any truth to it. 5+ ERA pitchers have good games as well. i'll be surprised if the rockies win one of those. I always think about how much money I could make if people who make these kind comments were willing to put their money where their mouth was. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  22. Walk Chipper to get to a career .900 OPS player? Umm.... Come on Yost, you are usually great about not intentionally walking people.
  23. What's the over/under on Chipper's BA if he finishes with 500+ AB? .350? Can someone please tell our announcing crew that?
