1. Sheets threw fastball of 94,96 and 96 MPH to Wigginton. We know he can do that if he wants but I'd rather he not be getting crazy after his tricep scare.
2. I'd rather Sheets not ever slide and he could have just as easily been called safe there.
3. Sheets' family inspires an RBI double out of his kid. EDIT: Wow, only his 9th RBI and second extra base hit? 6 years between extra base hits. WOW.
4. Why does Bill insist that Sheets pitches to contact? Sheets is a flyball pitcher. If he pitched to contact he would suck. He's a strike out pitcher, as he showed this inning.
5. How does Carlos Lee not have any kind of play at the plate on Weeks?
6. I'll just be happy if Sheets just pitches like he's healthy. If he's going to have lingering issues, nothing else is going to matter anyway.
7. 87? That would have been on the low end on my expectations. And I didn't expect Sheets to make 35 starts either. Vegas certainly didn't have them at 90+ wins (what was their over/under?) and projection systems had the Brewers at around 85 wins (which takes into account, Sheets being projected for less than 175 IP). IMO, you might have had unrealistic expectations before the seeason. And if you thought they were a 90 win team before the season started, why would the loss of Gallardo make them even average or below? I'm not picking on you, since there are probably many who agree with you. Is everyone weighing th results of one month more than they should be? Beyond injuries of course, one month doesn't tell us very much.
8. If we believed that there were an 87 win team before Yo's injury, they are probably around an 84 win team without. They are still above average but probably not by much. Remember, it's the offense that's supposed to be better than average, not the pitching (which certainly isn't anymore). Suppan, Bush, Villy and Parra should collectively be only a little below average, so Sheets realistically pulls them up to around average. If the offense can start performing as expected, they are legitimately an above average team. Just not by enough to not need some balls to bounce their way to get to the playoffs. Remember, most teams are only a few games away from being average to begin with. Even average teams make the playoffs with some luck (winning a bunch of 1 run games, big hits in big situations, etc...)
9. Plus, players that have only been around 3 years shouldnt have enough info to make an educated guess on them.. Well I guess it could make the guess, but most likely it will be off.. I just dont like projections. Ironically, most projection systems don't even use data farther back than 3 years, since it doesn't really make them anymore accurate. I'm not trying to pretend that projections area some crystal ball because they aren't. But managers have to make decisions based on their best guess of future performance and projections get them maybe 90% of the way there (you should consider other factors beyond just past performance, of course). I agree with Dustin. I hope this is just the "reeling" stage from the bad Yo news. And if the Brewers had one the last 2, we'd be talking about how the Brewers were inspired by Yo's injury to step it up. Losing Gallardo really hurts the Brewers but I don't think it's going to effect the rest of the players' production. Remember, while it's not exactly the same, the Brewers started the season without Gallardo as well.
10. An average lefty does 40 OPS better against lefties than righties. Does that make Gwynn a better option than Dillon against a righty? Getting on base would be pretty close but power wise, Dillon wins easy. Down by 4, I'd pick Dillon easy, personally.
11. Yeah all Gross needs is regular playing time. Oh yeah, he still stinks in Tampa. He did something today that Gwynn might never do.
12. I thought Gwynn is the defensive specialist you can steal some bases? Why the HELL would anyone think he's the guy to call on in a situation like that? I'm not mad at Gwynn; he is what he is. I'm mad at Yost for always being so confused with life.
13. If Gwynn is really going to be the guy to get called with the game on the line this year, I quit. Prove me wrong, Gwynn!
14. Backe must have gotten tired from hitting 350 ft bombs last innings
15. Hey, you know what would be nice? The Brewers putting up a couple of run the next innings and getting back into this game. Pretty please?
16. If you feel this team is playing well tonight that's your right. Look out, strawman!!!!
17. So Bush isn't starting in Florida? What's this now He's obviously more valuable here, with the Brewers down 4 and runners on 1st and 3rd and no out. Or something.
18. I dont really get the "ZiPS" projections and stuff like that... You cant predict someones stats, they do it themselves, sometimes they suck sometimes they do amazing... Projections means NOTHING. Projections just look at past performance and tries to make an educated guess about performance. If you don't think past performance tells us anything, you think that Counsell should be expected to hit just as good as Prince Fielder this year. Is that really what you think or have you put no effort into actually thinking about this stuff before dismissing it WITH BIG CAPS?
19. I think you could but at least he has had a decent track record during his career. Hardy has had two good months and has been pretty bad for the rest. The fact that Kendall was good 8 years ago really doesn't mean much these days. The age differences between the two play a big role as well. ZiPS projections project Hardy for a .739 OPS and Kendall at .645. Their production so far this year would bridge the gap somewhat but I'd still expect more from Hardy going forward (which isn't saying much).
20. I think you could make a decent case that Kendall is the worse hitter but they both have some major issues on the offensive side of things.
21. Maybe that LASIK surgery didn't make Kendall into a superstar?
22. Kendall can be a hero now. I know the LASIKS have worn off since the first 8 game of the season but maybe he can get some new LASIKS and sock a single. After the first 8 games, this is what Kendall has done (not including his 0-3 tonight): .206/.286/.254/.540His OPS is now .746 and falling fast.
23. Hall walking three times makes me very happy. he's never going to get pitches to crush if he doesn't keep pitchers honest. Now if Hardy can just do SOMETHING.
24. The good news is that Oswalt is probably done and the Brewers have 9 outs to do something with.
25. The Brewers' rotation consists of an ace pitcher and 4, #4/5 pitchers. Not good. Just get him out. Cripes Villy. How did you completely fall apart after 4 masterful innings and 50 pitches?? They were hitting balls all over the place. He was just getting lucky that they were all finding gloves.
